I would never realize how much work gets put in for restoring just one seat! The result is amazing! 👍
thank you !
At first I thought it was impossible to restore, and they had to accept the unfixable cracks, but you got them looking like new. Professional job
Thank you
I can't believe the workmanship! This is really well done!
Thank you very much.
I really enjoy watching professional craftsmen do their work. The seats look great!
Thank you
Great job! I did my seats on my V50, same colour. But I did not have a spray gun, or heat guns to dry. So I cleaned the seats with Auto Glym leather cleaner and magic erasers, which really lift the dirt, and prepped the seats with very fine sand paper, then filled in all the creases, and allowed the filler to dry. Then I gave the seats another light sanding, and cleaned of the dust with a damp micro fibre cloth. Then I applied the leather colourant with a clean cloth, allowed it to dry, then applied another coat of colourant. The colourant I used had a satin finish when dry, and did not require a final coat of sealant. The entire process took two days for the whole car, including leather inserts on the door cards. It took longer because I had to let each process dry naturally. But the results were AMAZING, like a brand new interior. Two years have passed since I did it, and now they will need doing again, but only the front seats, as I do not use the back seat. So the back seat only needs to be lightly cleaned. 👍
Thank you. Yes, it is a very satisfying job, with a spray gun, it is a good bit easier.
Where do you buy the colourant?
@@AJSmithtwins The scratch doctor, on ebay.
Probably one of the better restoration videos I have seen. Good job, brother

Absolute masterclass, what a transformation!
Thank you very much
All very nice, if it weren't for the fact that you have to sit on the seats.
@@wilhamcobly3805 Thanks for the comment, but I am not sure what you are trying to say.. properly restored leather can be used normally; these seats are from daily cars, there would be no point doing the job if the repair wasn't lasting.
I really enjoyed your energy and enthusiasm. I will start restoring my car seats. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
You have great knowledge and products to restore the leather.. Great Job!!!!
remember…seek your goals the way camera guy’s thumb seeks the mic hole 😂 Very cool video, guys! I have several old cars and I may seek to refinish them. I had no idea seats were painted in this way. I have the challenge…now to acquire the knowledge!

Great job on those full leather seats. I am interested in techniques for pleather (vinyl) and cloth combination seat upholstery, like the older Volvo sport option seats. Do you have any major advices for cleaning, prepping and painting such type of seat covers?
Thank you. If you would send me some photos I would be able to give you some advice. If you wish, contact me by contact form through my website www.ocddetailing.ie
Great work 😊
Thank you 😊
Amazing
Thank you
Outstanding. I would love to learn this skill.
Thank you. To be honest, the process is not overly complicated; you need a small bit of set-up, If I was to learn it, I would start with black seats and standard black leather paint, leather cleaner, sanding pads, degreaser, filler, heat gun and spray gun or airbrush, this set up is not expensive but would get you going, I have many videos on my channel about leather restoration, you can learn a lot of from them, put in it practice and I will guarantee you, you will get great results!
Excellent
Thank you
Excellent 😊
Thank you
Je confirme Colorlock.. très bon produit surement un des meilleurs
Just gorgeous! I can actually do this!! LOL THank you
Thank you
Nice job ☝️
Thank you
Looks great wish you were around me if I ever needed leather repair
Its very easy to do. All you need is time and patience. You can buy the products you need online, quite cheaply. You don't need spray guns or heat guns, but garden sprayers can be used if need be. I just used magic erasers and leather cleaner to clean, and Micro fibre cloths to apply the products, and let each stage dry naturally. Do your front seats one day, and the rear seat the next day.
@@hermanmunster3358 thank for the info I appreciate it my seats are ok was just saying if I needed leather repair yours looked great I have a scratch on my leather steering wheel that I will eventually bring some place for repair
@@hermanmunster3358 did you remove your seats, or just leave them in?
good work i injoyed
Thanks you

felizitaciones muy bien explicado nuca he visto un tutorial tan bueno
Muchas gracias por ver mi video y por tu comentario. saludos desde irlanda
good luck . Wonderful
Thank you
HELLO, thank you for your amazing videos. I wanted to ask you about the top coat, it is MAT or glossy? and what is the formula for a matt top coat please?
Thank you for your comment. For automotive leather to get the most optimal finish, I mix 70% of top coat matt with 30% of top coat gloss and 3% of hardener. If you use top coat matt only , then this finish will not look natural it will be too matty like chalk finish.
Brilliant video, do you have a link to the sanding foam pads that you used?
Thank you , Sanding pads are available here ocddetailing.ie/colourlock-leather-sanding-pad-p-37.html
Ocd detailing also a perfect name hahah
😁
Amazing jog !!!
Thank you
Great job. If I wanted to restore my beige seats and dye them to something like saddle brown? Could I follow your steps and just use a different leather dye colour?
Thank you, yes you can follow these steps, it may only take 1-2 extra coats of paint.
What grit sandpaper did you use?
I use 400-500 grit, depending on how rough the leather is.
I'd rather reskin it but nice to see there's alternatives
Superb video.... One question: how do you match the paint?
We have full set of colors, we use color wheel and just match it bit by bit to get the same shade, color matching is the most difficult part of the whole proces.
I was looking into getting into car detailing but when it's so hard that the camera man is out of breath...I think I'll stick to being a lumberjack at the local quarry woodmill. 😆 🤣
lol
Where are the cleaner, filler., paint and hardner avaliable please? How durable is the paint? Do u usually need to replace foam first? Great video. Thank you. Ur a true craftsman!!
Thank you, if you serach for Colourlock or Geist you probably will find supplier somewher near, we are based in Ireland (www.ocddetailing.ie) the durability of the paint stated by producer is about 2 years for daily used cars, i weekend cars it lasts way longer, or if maintened correctly also will last longer in a daily car. You would only need to replace the foam if its worn, in this case there was no need.
Looks fantastic very professional, I’m just wondering how long they last with average use
Thank you, the repair once done correctly should last minimum two years in a daily used car,
Thank you for a great video! I have a 1999 Volvo S80 2.0T with simelar seats. I wonder witch product and sandpaper you are using? Thanks again! Grettings from Roger in Norway 😃😃
Thanks Roger, for all restoration jobs i use Colourlock products, sanding pads with 400 to 600 gradations.
Great job, very theral. I have to ask how long before it wears down, what I'm trying to ask is, whether it will hold for long like the original or a lot less!? Thanks
Thank you very much. If the process is performed correctly and the leather is maintained with the right products, this restoration will last for a couple of years in a daily used car, these seats were done about a year and a half ago; the car is a workhorse, so it is abused a good bit, but its owner has a good idea about maintenance, and so far the seat sill look very good. s
hi nice work on leather. quick question- how long does the treatment last before needs doing again. thanks
The durability of this kind of repair is about two years, It may start to slowely wear on the most used places like bolsters etc.
I love this. I have the exact same seats in need of repair. What is the tool called used to fill in the cracks. Is a certain one required. Thanks
Thanks fro the comment, the tool for filing is called spatula.
Great work! I've got a little question for you. If you have a different colour on seam (white for example) and the leather is brown how do you paint the seat to keep the seam white? Thank you!
Thank you Emanuel. I usually use tape to mask the seams if they are in different color, there is also sort of gel that you can apply on seams before painting and just peal it off after so the color of seams is protected, but I haven't used it yet. You can check this video, I am fixing seat with different color of seams kzhead.info/sun/aJilmNmmf4F6jac/bejne.html
@@OCDDetailing2021 thank you very much! Wish you all the best!
@@emanuelconstantin5971 You are very welcome, the same to you .
Looks great, lots of work but still less money than new or reupholstering. I’m curious how it hold up. Years ago a friend paid to have this done, but after a few weeks all the cracks reappeared, and it looked trrrible. Technology has come a long ways since then(this was ~20 years ago).
Thanks for your comment. The seats from this video are still in good shape , they are used in daily used car so obviously at this stage they already have some wear and tear, the process is simple overall, but its easy to make mistake especially when it comes to drying the leather during restoration, if this happens ,then the repair won't last , overall the products are very good once they are used right.
MASTER👍
Thank you
Amazing work, congratulations! Question: Would the paint fade off with time? I painted once, and after one year, the paint was gone...thanks.
Thank you , it all depends , in this case i restored layer of color and top coat , so repair like this will hold well for minimum 2 years in a daily car, of course it the process is done correctly. From the owner I know that after year and half from repair the seats were still in good condition,. Sometimes I also use diy method and durability of that is about one year, but in this case wear only shows in the most used places but overall the paint doesn't go off fully.
Thank you for sharing! Can't the headrest be removed on this type of seat?
In the case of this seat i couldnt find way of removing the headrest, strange one as when it comes to most cars there is no such a problem.
What grain of sand paper is used?
Depending how rough is the leather I use 400 or 500 gradation sanding pads.
After the repair is the leather supple? After repair....Can you use Meguiars Leather cleaner for normal ongoing cleaning and feeding of the repaired "painted" leather?
To keep the natural features of the leather, I only spray enough paint to fix the damage; coats are light; if there is too much paint applied, the leather loses its natural softness in touch, so the amount of paint is essential. In the case of dry or hard leather, I leave it for the day and apply Colourlock Leather Protector ( conditioner), sometimes it takes a few applications within 2-3 days, but it feeds the leather and brings it back its softness. I use Colourlock products for leather care, but Megiuars are good products, too, so they won't cause any harm.
This is great. What if you have two tone stitching. How do you not dye the threading
Thank you, if the stitching has diferent color I mask it with tiny masking tape. In one of my other videos i work on seat like that, if you wanted to have a Look.
@@OCDDetailing2021 thank you. I’m waiting for color lock to get back to me with training dates
Hey there, which Sandpapergrid do you take for sanding? Unbelievable results!
Thank you, i use pads with grit between 400-600, depending on how rough the leather is, for rougher one i use 400, for smoother 600.
New to the channel. Fantastic results. Do you have a video of your setup and products you use. Where can I purchase...
Thank you. All products I used in this video are on my website www.ocddetailing.ie.
Excellent video and explanation, what grid sandpaper is used without the 3000 u mentioned?
Thank you very much, for the final sanding of the top coat I use 3000 or 4000 gradation
After the GLD scrub 4:11 min what is that grid?
Sorry, 400 or 500 gradation
Thank u so much @@OCDDetailing2021
