That was awesome!!! Best intro music in the diesel restoration channel business!
It was great thank you!
Love the new intro! I generally hate youtube intros. This leaves me wanting more!
Looking forward to seeing more good music from you guys.
Really great!
18:56 That turbo sounds like a jet engine during taxiing.
My dad used to take me to work with him in the summertime. I learned how start and run these old cable rigs at an early age. Everything was cable back in the 50’s and early 60’s. I started working on the pipelines in 1964. It was in the early 70’s before getting into Local #12 in Southern California. In the 70’s I spent hours and hours pioneering and building right a ways and doing back filling and dress up work on an old Cat D-7 46-A and a cat D-8 15-A. It was amazing when the company that I worked for started buying hydraulic equipment. It was so nice to pull or push a lever to change blade angles and positions. No more jumping off and muscleling those heavy awkward blades around.😂😅🤣 I loved kicking those pony motors in gear and watching those huge smoke rings shoot up into the air and listening to the awesome sound of those mains taking off on a cold morning in northern Utah. Those were good days. I worked in that field for 50 years before hanging it up. Thank you for making these wonderful videos bringing back those wonderful memories.

New guys never seen that Bless you
Quick story about D8H's, in 1967 Vietnam we were using these machines to help lay down Marston Mat (commonly known as PSP planking to build temporary runways. We would air drop them from C-130 Aircraft at heights up to 10', they survived, most of the time.
Yeah, something that heavy (~50,000 lbs, ~22,700 kg) needs a LAPES drop, a tried and true technique for delivering particularly heavy loads to a very specific area. For those mildly interested, look around for LAPES (low altitude parachute extraction system) drop. It's a fascinating, if potentially dangerous, procedure. For example, the tragedy at Ft. Bragg in 1987 was caused by the pilot coming in too steep and leveling off too late, which caused the C130 to hit the ground mid-procedure. Believe it or not, the C130 probably could have recovered from that on its own (such magnificent aircraft). But then the load was extracted and the aircraft's center-of-gravity shifted enormously, the pilot couldn't recover the aircraft, and it crashed into the trees.
The Semi-Super-Villains are playing right in front of the new shop with some nice new riffs! This is so cool, Matt!
the shop has some great acoustics!!
Just sad that to see at 28:00 that someone stole his large doors in the new shop :)
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz Yes, and they got the concrete pad in front of them too! 😂
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz 😂
@@TSSVillains Before you get the new shop all loaded with equipment, it would be the ideal place to have a dance...........
I don't think I ever clicked a video so fast. Two Diesel Creek video's in a week, what a treat!
Great work, it sounds like a jet. Amazing how well it moved after sitting so long.
My thought as well, by sound a jet powered D8H.
That's caterpillar.
Turbo going finally air i can now work
Very few things sound as good to me as an old D8H.
I cant get over how loud that turbo is. It sounds like a full blown jet. If the sound was scaled up to a airliner turbofan it would be 1000 dB
Hi Matt. I am amazed at all the discipline you have in not giving up on these old iron machines. I can watch this for hours. Regards, Rico
I was surprized to see the tracks move the way they did after sitting as long as they did. You guys did a very good job.
I was more surprised the clutches and brakes worked!😊
Looking forward to seeing the shop crane go up! Great job on getting the D8 home and have an awesome day Matt!
I agree 👍
Yes, where is that crane?
Matt may need the crane when he works on the D8.
I'd definitely recommend putting a couple safety chains on the C-frame as an extra safety measure incase the old rusty cables snap or someone hits the lever. But this will be a pretty cool restore and I look forward to seeing more of it.
Matt - I'm being drawn in deeper and deeper to your educational video channel. I'm learning so much about machinery I will never see, work on oreven care about but I do enjoy your videos. The frustrating moments bring back simular moments long gone by. thx
Looking forward to the restoration on the D8, going to be epic. That would be a You Tube classic to see a job being done with all antique equipment, hope that idea pans out for you sir. Thanks for the ride along Mat, enjoyed it.
Who needs a workshop stereo when you’ve got The Semi Supervillains at your disposal? Cheers Matt 🤘🍻
Fantastic new intro Matt. Love seeing Vinnie and the boys playing out front of the new shop.I gotta go see them play out sometime, missed them the last time in Pittsburgh.
Matt, just be careful with that machine. My dad had a uncle that was killed by being crushed by the blade all because the oiler bumped the lift lever by accident. Crushed every internal organ.
What an absolute unit! Can't wait to see the restoration on this! I was thinking that design with the pony exhaust going through the diesel intake was dumb, but then I realized the pony motor's exhaust would be pre-heating the diesels air when working correctly, which is genius! I guess that is another reason to get the pony working over an electric conversion.
That’s the goal!
Diesel fuel explodes at 32psi of vacuum or positive pressure. It could care less if it has oxygen or c02, however having hot exhaust gas is far superior to that from glow plugs which at that time were not invented yet. Lol Desiel engines still need air but the air filter on this old d8 cat is stopped up.
@@about2mount bud the air filter wasn’t even in it 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
@@DieselCreek Gotcha, ok then sounds as if ots flooded and a flooded desiel can take a long time to clear out while repeatedly turning over. That would also explain the blue colored smoke.
the only bad bit is when people forget to put a tin over the pony exhaust or rain flap to keep the water out. as it can rust out the tube and then dust the main engine. the ideal is a electric start pony which this has.
I imagine the neighbors, with the nice porch, were happy to see that eye sore move after 15 years ;-) Can't wait to see the final product!
The awakening of the beast ... there would've been reason enough to have a little neighbourhood gettogether BBQ thing while the boys were trying to start it for the first time. What a show! And lots of dads standing around it with their hands in their pockets!
What eye sore?
Bite your tongue 😂
@@peterpeplinski9923 exactly!! I don't see no stinkin eye sore. Except maybe that deck.
It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Lol Nice piece of equipment.
Wow - the turbo whistle on the blue truck has been topped by a D8 Cat whistle! I could estimate how loud it was when the rest of the background noise got real quiet. That must have been quite the sound going down the road also.
I was coming to comment the same thing lol that’s an amazing whistle 😂
Have to say it was going right through my ears. Glad when he finally stopped it 😂 honestly thought there was a jet firing up somewhere
Great fun. I bought a 1939 D4 with putt motor in 1987. Still runs no problem in 2023. Putt motors were designed to warm up the diesel engine in cold climates because the two share the same coolant system. Even up here in Canada you can start the machine in winter.
Oh boy that turbo whistle. Love it
That turbo compliments my tinnitus perfectly!😁 Great vid as always, so impressed with all the machinery. Cheers mate. 🍻🥰
Mine to lo
Me 3 😂 - Seriously hope you are protecting your hearing Matt. It doesn’t take a lot to damage it. Once the tinnitus starts it never stops. Your ears hairs don’t regenerate so look after them. My audiologist said mechanics suffer the worst. Stay safe 👌
Amazing big Ole iron...great two part series and who knew Cat had a jet powered dozer...that turbo noise had to be horrible but truly amazing content and so glad you saved that beast. Appreciate you taking us along with this adventure and looking forward to seeing more.😊👌🇺🇸🔧🛠️🚜
This has been a genuine pleasure to watch. This thing is an absolute beast, and ran surprisingly well for its age and time sitting. I hope you can get the pony fixed up.
I didn’t know your a WV boy. Southern WV coalfields here , proud surface miner last 20 years. 💪🏼👍🏻👍🏻
Whoa Matt, what an incredible noise from the turbo. It sounded more like a jet turbine spooling up. 👌👍
Incredible?! It's hurting my ears
It sounds fucken brilliant !!!!
@@kirdot2011 I would also appreciate a equalisation of that annoying whine down. Otherwise it was great video.
I had to turn the volume down to level 1. killed me.
Love the idea of doing a paying job with all antique equipment! I've always been told it's not possible and I've always called bs. Great video as always!
Love your work, another one saved. The live band intro was cool.
DUDE! Need a full walk around truck tour of that Ford 9000! 😍 wow!!! 😍🤩🤩
Hi Matt! I know there is a whole lot of trouble and strife we don't see because you spare us, but the stuff you guys pull off on this channel just proves to me that you've got the best Kung Fu! Great content, as always.
Nice find Matt me and another flagged from Northern Maine watch your videos and discuss them
@@wayneboulier6107and a fella from Mid coast Maine as well.
That live intro is fantastic Thanks Matt for taking us along for the ride
Glad you enjoyed! Thank the Semi-Supervillains for coming out to the shop to play live!
Love the video’s every time! We will watch them once in a while in the heavy equipment repair class I teach to show them a glimpse of the old school and my students all love it!
Awesome! Thank you! That’s quite humbling!!
Good lord that LTL is BEAUTIFUL
It's official, I have dozer envy. I've been looking for something like this for quite awhile. They are either totally ragged out or way too pricey. Nice job, Matt. I'll keep lookin'!
Look up the sister dozer he talked about.
They won’t sell it I tried lol
That turbo may be on its last leg, but it sounds amazing and my dog is pissed. Also I knew the ponies shared coolant to warm up the diesel. Didn't know the exhaust also heated the intake.
У Вас "золотые руки", столько труда вложено Вами чтобы оживить бульдозер . Удачи Вам!
Nice job with the Band at the start of the show. When you have the shop complete you should have an open house and have the band play, BBQ, and everyone sharing their heavy equipment stories of woe.
this needs to happen!!
Pick up some old conveyor belt rubber to put down for track equip.on your new concrete floor-works great!! Tracks never touch the floor.
Keep up playing with big toys and do what you love. Love your videos
You are always tenaciously caring about you projects. Respect your efforts and hard work. Enjoy viewing😊
I see lots of possible problem areas like track adjustments and old cable, etc. etc. But this is such a worthwhile project. Congratulations on having the right attitude and skills to keep her running.
The issues are what keep things cheaper than what the wierd market demands, it’s not about having a show style machine it’s more about making it useful again.
@@georgewelker853 I get it. Good luck.
I can't imaging finding 2023 machines sitting in a field 60 years from now starting right up like that.
Nope. To many rotten wires and bad computer chips.
That LTL pulling that low boy 😍
Actually pretty clever running the pony motor exhaust through the intake to heat up the air to aid in cold starting but as you ran into if it’s leaking inside then causes a big problem!!
That turbo sound is a mix between a jet engine and DASH locomotive : love it ! Great work as always.
Totally sounds like you described. Insane!
It sounded great but I was surprised they didn't just cut the exhaust on the pony and put a temporary diversion in place, instead of unbolting the manifold. If he is going to do a Christine style restoration, we should start placing bets on how many times it will try and kill him, 5 for me. We should name it for him too. Any ideas?
I want that turbo sound on my 2016 Buick encore turbo 1.4.
@@MimicoBungalow maybe sample it and play it back continuous on a really big speaker on the back seat:)
Terrific opening tune. Hats off to the Villains. It amazes me how somehow you always manage to get this old equipment running. You are the master of Jerry rigging! I totally expected the loading of the blade to be another DC "oops!"
So.. What are you going to name her?
That old D8 is a monster, I just love the sound of these big old Cat diesels, they sound awesome! Glad you resurrected it and brought it home!
The autocar needs a little glam up the spring..... new seats and stuff
the diese cat engine, when they start bringing it back to life, well it's been a long time but i ain't done yet.
Having to wait a day for the second part is torture😂 Thanks for another wonderful video Matt. Also: consider making yourrself a discord of fellow old iron enjoyers
Now that’s the best opener of all!!! Love seeing the semi-supervillains play in front of the new shop. That was awesome!!
I just found your channel today and very glad I did. Though this wasn't necessarily a documentary it sure had the feel of a quality fun and informative documentary. Really this was fun to watch. And glad to see an old antique be given a new home and and new future other than just rusting away.
Put a chain on the on the dozer frame to the limb riser then you will know it won't come down. Great save
it was quite impressive to see this piece of history get loaded and off to a new home ! Loved this video
Damn, that noise of that turbo in idle will haunt me in my dreams. How long after disengaging have you still been able to hear it? =D
Great to see the the boys fronting up👍. Suspected bunch of villains I’m pick’n. What a great idea Matt. Let’s see your rescued iron earning their keep. Bid away. Will be watching with great interest. Blessings from New Zealand. Keep up the great work.
Awesome Old Iron being saved for generations to see and learn from. Nicely done Matt & Crew!
Since that turbo was so loud, you could name this one Wistlin' Wilma. Since it is truly out of the stone age. 😉😉👍👍👍👍👍👍🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔨🔨🔨🔨
Always a great day when you upload Matt! and a two part! That D8 is a unit gonna be alot of help around there. Oh and that sweet turbo whistle tune🎵 Thanks again Matt.
What an awesome set and f videos!! From the live band at the farm to one awesome piece of machinery, and of course the very best of the operator mechanics around!! Thanks Matt!!
Cant be this long inbetween episodes mate! Sweden is cold and dark this time of year. We need you! ;)
Love the new intro to your video by the band, i know you mention their name each time but great having them playing at the start.i know you mention why the turbo is loud but the D8 sounded like something of an old jet plane film. Brilliant.
Can’t wait to hear you list all the project parts (like new exhaust for the pony motor or whatever) and why all are needed for the restoration. That is my favorite part of all your videos: your identifying all the things you need to do and how to get them done without spending a fortune. Looking forward to seeing you in action!!!! Really enjoyed seeing the band also.
Holy cow! Watching your video, I caught the sign for 22W, then I recognized the buildings off in the distance behind the D8 and found the bulldozer on Google Earth! I grew up just on the other side of the Ohio River from your place. I don’t live there anymore, but wow do I miss home. Great video!
I really enjoy watching you trouble-shoot, and explaining what you did to get it running. You make it look easy, but I find myself much more confident around older machinery with your imparted knowledge
This video explains why I was seeing exhaust coming out of the diesel exhaust on the last video when you were still trying to start the pony motor. Thanks for sharing!
Two awesome videos in two days! Thanks Matt.
Loved seeing Diesel Creek play your intro, as well as bringing old machines back to life and functionality. Your content is awesome.
Cool Video. Even cooler was the supervilains playing in front of the shed. Well done Matt
Love the opening scene with the Semi-Super Villains, awesome stuff..
Awesome, just make sure you have some protection on your floor when bring the cat in!!! Just like grandpa said, you never want your mortgage or your girlfriend late! Take care, Matt.
Lol!
Good job man I love the way you look at the future and the love for all the equipment you work on
That Cat's GORGEOUS !
Hey Matt ! Your French sub here. The history of this big beautiful lady is awesome, as well as the connection to your shop's concrete pad ! Can't friggin wait for the awesome upcoming restauration videos ! 🤩 I've been following your channel for quite a long time (since the zinc plant overfly video I believe) and it just keeps getting better and bigger. That turbo sound took me back to my days out on the flight line when I was in the Air Force. Nice score Matt! Cheers Terry
Yes! A part 2! Thanks for another great video Matt!
Looking forward to this one - love these old cats!
I'll watch any CAT restoration, as a former CAT employee, they are the machines that built the US. My favorites are the D11 series, D2, and the antique THIRTY.
That idea with doing a complete Job with Vintage machines Would be Awesome Matt and wow 1 Serial Number Difference on the twin D8 that is cool and same company that pored the concrete for the shop super neet Matt 33:00 @Diesel Creek
Glad you are going to do a restoration of it. That will be fun to watch!

Man its Snowing Cats and Dogs Matt 😂 heck yeah Saving a D8 Dozer and taking the autocar sweet 1:04 @Diesel Creek
I am glad you are rescueing older equipment, which are better than newer ones. Keep on doing it ☺️.
Looks like a great machine Matt. Can’t wait to see this project progress. Keep your eyes open for a set of injectors for the Auto-car. Looks like you have a leaking injector, white smoke, usually un burnt fuel. It’s great to see the old iron coming back to life! Thanks Matt.
Sounds like a jet!👍 Looking forward to more on this one. Thank you.
Thanks for the explanation regarding everything to do with starting & running this Beast. You & your Buddy certainly have the knowledge & experience to handle this new future project. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses. Cheers from Brisbane Australia 🍻🇦🇺
That opening with them playing it live was awesome
thank you!
This D8 is amazing, looking forward to the rustoration on this one so much!
Glad to know that you have a lot of thought and care to give to this old piece of heavy equipment. Keep up with videos during restoration. Very interesting project
glad you got her home can't wait to see you do a job with all the oldy but goodies 💖
As usual, these videos about CPR on a D-8 were most interesting and informative!! It’s a pleasure to see an abandoned pile of steel come to life again rather than just oxidizing away to scrap!! The opening scenes are a tribute to your hard work and tenacity. I’ve been watching since you were putting in drains around the church hand first brought the containers in! Your Empire shows steady growth especially from the drone shots! Keep on truckin’😊

What a great sight to see the old girl running. Even though she is banged up she is beautiful. I grew up in the logging industry of Northern California and remember when the D8 came out in 1945 Great video..........Thanks Bill Percell
I absolutely love the idea of doing a job with nothing but antique equipment. I do mechanic work for a rancher in southern Oregon. He has a lot of old equipment including the oldest operational D4 cat in southern Oregon. He also has an operational John Deer model R. I love starting those old rigs and driving them.
Dear Matt, It’s so amazing to see such an old Caterpillar D8 bulldozer running again although this mighty machine needs a lot of love indeed but when she’ll look like Christine I’m positive you’ve have to show this dragon in some exhibitions and for sure she’ll get a lot of attention. Send you love from the Netherlands
Excellent as usual. You do a great job editing and mixing in the music. 10/10 ❤
Great to see a job with all old machines.
What an awesome machine. The turbo noise without the cover was amazing on my headphones lol just like a jet engine. Can’t wait for more videos on this beast of a machine.
I can’t wait to see you restore the D8 taking the pony motor out and taking it apart. That is some of the best stuff that you do when you’re repairing stuff. I hope it doesn’t take too long. You do a great job. It’s fun watching you repair stuff And restore stuff
Agreed 100%.
I would also like to see him go back and try and get that little crane that was stuck. I think he can get it out of there. He just needs the right tools that would be fun to watch and I like that he’s keeping his videos at around an hour or more those little short ones for 25 or 30 minutes you don’t really get to see Him do much. Thank you.
Enjoying the video Matt. Some quick feedback. I really like the time lapse footage especially vs just cutting out long repetitive parts. You're really good at this. When stuff gets cut out it feels like we missed out. Thanks for taking us along on these projects and awesome editing.
That's really neat. Great find an can't wait to see what you do with her. Thanks Matt 😊.
