  • Matt, the Beetle was produced in Brazil from 1953 to 1986 and came back to production from 1993 to 1996. Maybe you mistook the production in Mexico, that ended in 2003. Fun fact: The T1 (named simply Kombi) was produced in Brazil from 1953 to 2013.

  • The Corolla title has been disputed by other motoring journalists. Besides the name change to Auris mid production, the fact that it was not true to its origin was claimed. It has been a hatchback and a saloon car during the production life. The actual claim was the title should have gone to the VW Golf which has retained its name and hatchback configuration throughout production.

  • You can't beat the corolla. Still have the 2005 corolla. It sound nicer that a stock s3 with limiter. It's not fast, but it can go 16 years without even dieing. It's a beast for a car. Fuel is amazing in it. Every two going to work and home, I go to the fuel station. Its amazing. I recommend it for you Matt. Family, money, and people friendly.

  • In Norway Tesla model Y is the most sold car, it just costs a little more than 50 000 dollars here! 85% of our cars are EVs, Audi E-tron is on second place, and then you have all the other EVs, like Hyundai, Ford Mustang Mach E and lots of VW models, I.D 4 is the most popular VW! We are only 5 million norwegians, so our impact on the carbon footprint is of course a lot smaller than if the USA were to go 85%+ electric! Or India! Chinese EVs tend to burn up, but if China could solve that problem, OR buy european or american EVs it would lower the carbon levels much more!:)

    • yes, In brazil the last one was made in 1996, (they stopped the production in 86, but de president ask for vw to return the production in 94 iirc)

    • That's right, I'm brazilian and was going to comment just that correction, it was in Mexico that the Beetle lasted until 2003. In Brazil, the Fusca (Beetle's brazilian name) was sold until 1986, and then from 1993 to 1996, by request of the then presidente Itamar Franco.

  • As Mat mentioned about the best selling car in the world, the Toyota Corolla (40 million units) worldwide, there are some names that I can think of in some markets that are based on the Corolla; Corolla Axio (Japan only) Corolla Fielder (Japan only) Levin Sedan (China only) Corolla Altis (South East Asia and Taiwan) Auris (Japan & Europe only) (Corolla Hatch in Australia) Let me know what other Corolla names that are available in your country if I miss some in this list.

  • 6:00 aCkcHyUalLY, The classic beatle was made in Mexico until 2003. In Brazil, It stopped production in 1984 and briefly had a limited production in 1993 until 1996. In reality, the type 2 (wich is called Kombi here) was made until 2011!

    • @@zamuraiicobalt896 well, I guess the F150 would topple Corolla in the coming 3 years. And Golf would not improve, because VW marketing is made of children who study no other than their home! VW suspends US Golf deliveries which is a dumb decision just like how dumb it was to discontinue Beetle. VW is going electric, which is wrong, they could have establish a trademark for EVs just like Volvo with Polestar. VW management board needs to be changed.

    • @@zamuraiicobalt896 People think that VW would no longer produce ICEs, which means rears support and maintenance services and lack of parts, this is enough to decrease the sales of VW brand, VW could make a new trademark for EVs and keep using Volkswagen for ICE, but current VW board are changing the history and legacy of VW, which is wrong. The US population is a key factor in what you're refering to, many Americans (which means 10s of millions) nowadays prefer big vehicles (SUVs and trucks) over hatchbacks, city cars and even passenger cars. As well as the GDP and fuel prices in the US are in favour of big vehicles, add to them the regulations, all of these put F150, Rav4, CR-V, Rogue, and even Wrangler ahead of Golf in the USA. The situation in other parts of the world (incl. Europe) is different.
