What do supercar owners do for a job?
Thanks to South OC Cars & Coffee for helping us create this video: / southoccarsandcoffee
Mat’s flown over to the American West Coast, and he’s attending a Cars & Coffee meet-up!
There are absolutely loads of supercars at this event, with pretty much every supercar brand making an appearance of some description - Porsche, Lambo, McLaren, Ferrari and even Bugatti… They’re all there!
The question is, how exactly do the owners afford to buy these incredibly expensive cars? Well, Mat’s about to find out! He’s going to speak to a whole host of car owners at the event to find out what they do for work to be able to afford these incredible machines. But not only that, he’s going to put them to the test to find out how much they really know about their car!
The question is, will he find a car worth more than the most expensive car he’s ever drag raced, a Koenigsegg Agera RS?! You’ll need to keep watching to see for yourself!

I can't believe how so many were unaware of their own car's engine size.
Because they're not car guys, they're showing off their wealth guys.
@@kristoffer3000 "There's a breed of humility which is itself a species of showing off." - Mark Twain
@@kristoffer3000 I don't see much wrong with that. I mean at the very least the engine and HP should be known. I'm by no means a car guy, I'm actually in Cyber Security and I don't know a whole lot about my corvette, but I know enough that I could answer these questions at least.
wealth comes in various ways, THink it this way: A lot of people have computers and major part of those people dont know what processor they have, they just bought it because they need or because it was the recommended to them. When your money power gets big, you just get the best things witouth think much and just enjoy
I get the feeling that for them the stats don't matter as much as the actual experience of owning such cars, particularly not capacity. Power (at least knowing a ballpark) and engine conf are still more relevant as they directly affect the driving experience. It's more us regular car fans who can't afford to access these cars that then focus on what we can access about such cars, which is primarily information and stats

Really nice to see one of these "what do you do for a living" videos where it's not just all big business owners or inheritance like the tiktok videos. Great to see people in different fields who are still able to own incredible cars
@tomtom87483, Matt should meet with Chisato Nishikigi.
Years ago. It was either in Car and Driver or Road & Track magazine. There was a small write up about who buys these cars. It wasn't the super rich but people who make an above average income and they've had set a goal of buying say a Ferrari and they did it. My own brother did that when he got out of college. He bought a couple of different Ferraris over the years. He made a very comfortable living working in Silicon Valley.
@@Rhaspuninteresting think I'll do some evaluating om this

The guy who owns a solar company was like "I'll offset my carbon footprint by owning a whole renewable energy company" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Solar is the biggest scam right now. These guys are loaded because their prices are high but their costs are pennies on the dollar.
As a software engineer myself I know California salaries are very high (like $350k / year high or even more) but I also assumed cost of living is insane as well. So cool to see the engineers being able to afford high end cars. I wonder if they work remotely?
I make $350k p/a. I can’t afford a super car. Something doesn’t add up here.
Or they always lived in California and have owned their homes their whole life before the massive increase in cost of living. Some people are just in the right place at the right time

All the software engineers don't surprise me, I've got buddies who do that in Cali and they can make $250-700k depending on seniority. The physical engineer does surprise me though, we don't typically make nearly enough money to buy a Ferrari like that one.

I would say one of my most favorite Car Wow episodes to date, nice job Matt Watson
One of the most enjoyable car videos I have seen in a long time! Nice people telling about their nice cars, hosted by one the most likable personalities in the business.
I love that you got a very diverse group of answers. It goes to show that if you are passionate about what you do and find a way to market it, you can make a lot of funny in that field. No it won't happen over night 99% of the time, but with time, dedication and consistency you can get there. I'm a senior mechanical engineer for a company in Silicon Valley and was able to purchase my 2012 Ferrari 458 last December because of what I do. I have been in industry for 16 years now, but was able to make my dream a reality.
Still needs to be in California though, otherwise it won't happen.
@jkliao6486 while it happens more often in California, it's not a requirement. I know a lot of people all over the country that have become insanely successful.
@@LifeatSpeed Of course there would be when we have 8 billion people on the planet. But your statement about being passionate in whatever you do and still able to achieve your dream, that is simply not true. Maybe less so in California, but there are certain job you need to do to achieve certain dreams, and in other part of the country, or even in other country, you simply can't do that however hard you work and passionate about your job.
@jkliao6486 I can tell you from experience that's simply not true. Sure you need to be able to figure how to monetize it, but if you're that passionate about it, you figure it out. There has never been an easier time in human history to be able to reach that level of success
@@LifeatSpeed That doesn't explain why people all move to California, including you, and that is especially true for the younger generation. Passion alone doesn't generate money at all, and I know from experience that it won't work when you are only designing filler cap flaps when you have passion for cars. Sure you are successful, and I wish all the best for you, but your experience hasn't really proven me wrong when I said it's not true everywhere.

Senior software Engineer with a Huracan. That’s impressive.
Not really. We pay $250-$350k/year for those positions. He probably got a 10 year term and has a payment of $2500 or so. That's with a conservative down payment though. If he put $30k down, closer to $2300.
@@JoeJacksonGT3 this meant he lives in a box from fridge 😂
@@vadym8713 living normal for 2 years and he could buy that huracan outright.
Not really, in my country aside of gangsters and politicians only senior software engineers can afford such cars. I´m assuming you´re from Europe like me and in my experience this really comes down to a difference in culture between the US and the EU, Germany especially in my case. In my opinion in the US you get a lot less of jelousy if you are showing off your success compared to over here. Over here people are usually more of the mindset to hide the fact they´re doing well for themself to not attract too much of that jelousy from other people, while in the US this is much more acceptable to be showing what you got.
What a great video team. Really cool learning what all the owners do. Seems real estate and insurance is the way to go.
Yep. He is a millionaire.
Real estate WAS the way to go, high interest and stagnating returns will make it harder to enter
@@bwdrives Real estate has always been a place to invest in. Everyone forgets that interest rates were much higher if you go back a few decades. Many people mistakenly think the low interest rates we just had is normal. I remember paying much higher interest rates back in the early 80s for my house when compared to current rates.
@@Rhaspun what was the population in the 80’s vs now? Did the same lifelong mortgage deals exist?
@@Rhaspun what I’m saying is, house price growth was driven by mortgage products becoming more affordable to people but more profitable to the banks - a perceived mutual benefit Combined with immigration and population growth creating higher demand for property. Yes there was some natural growth as the world became more prosperous but this will diminish as affordability cannot go further without lifelong or even generational mortgages and population stagnates
