  • TY for including dry weights in all your descriptions. It's possibly the most important stat, yet many vloggers leave it out of their reviews.

  • This detailed video really helps me realize what's out there, and pick out my own pros and cons so I know which one I will be after in the future. Thinking of my future owning a travel trailer, I want to find one that offers a kitchen, toilet, shower, and a queen sleeping area. I don't usually like the loss of space in the bathroom/kitchen just because they're trying to squeeze more sleepers in("sleeps 6" but it's a crammed bathroom with no leg room for the toilet). I don't have kids so I don't need sleep room, BUT, if the bunks are in a corner or something, easy storage, or a spot for pet(s) as hubbs and I always plan on having pets, I'd consider that.

    • You can find the weights, GVWR online for each of these. Rule of thumb; 3000 pounds car or jeep. 5000 pounds, most SUV’s and small trucks (like a Tacoma). Most half ton trucks and larger with gas engines can tow 5000-8,000 pounds. Diesel half tons can tow more, some up to 12,000 pounds. 3/4 tons (think RAM/GMC 2500’s and Ford F250’s are in that same range, but depending on configuration can be higher. A 1 ton truck can do around 18,000 pounds, more than that and you’ll need dual rear wheels to tow fifth wheels and such in the 20,000 + pound range.

  • Good video. It should go without saying that you absolutely don't want to get a trailer or any RV that doesn't have a bathroom/shower in it. Rather than express a favorite (although I did like the Coachman Clipper for the roof, but not the bunk beds), I'll just say you want a really, really good roof, and to do your own research on quality issues, particularly leaks. Water where it doesn't belong will destroy your RV in very little time. Don't trust that because it's new that means it was done right. Join the social pages that are devoted to your particular RV and company. The other is the tendency of these manufacturers to put in free-standing tables. This is a _terrible_ idea. I had a very small 2015 Jayco and learned 2 things very quickly about these tables. 1) they bounce down the road very badly because they're not fixed in place. They _could_ be, and maybe some have that option, but the Clipper is a good example of one that doesn't. I'm not picking on the Clipper - I actually _like_ the Clipper: look at all of them in this video. Trailers bounce a lot, much more than motorhomes. And 2) they are very heavy and extremely awkward to fold down to make a bed. So this particular design represents the worst of both worlds, either as a table, or turning it into a bed.

  • These things look like a good idea. I am currently in a van and with my SS & retirement savings O could afford one of these things. Studios are going for over $1200 where I live. Beyond my monthly income. However one of these and a cheap lot one of these is possible. Just need to convince the city to allow cheap lots. Like plenty of commercial empty parking in town. Parking spots are going for $50 a month so it's simply restrictions keeping on the street in my van. I am not the only one. Lots of seniors like me are in the same boat. Just need to be allowed to live like we would like to live.

    • @@RIPPER334 Most stock footage isn't "stolen." It's used to break up the video a little bit. It has nothing to do with getting views off someone else's work. Well, maybe getting views, but not by stealing anything. It's typically free use videos that are used or a subscription service that has a huge collection of stock footage.

  • Good segment, thankyou. Though some of the woodwork is high quality craftsmanship, any wood, anywhere on a trailer concerns me. One day I hope smaller travel trailers like these shown will stop using wood. It's susceptibility to mold and or damage from moisture/water will always be a concern. Maybe one day composite with aluminum framing members will be more common.

    @Chubbydippin@Chubbydippin8 ай бұрын
    • You can currently purchase new travel trailers which contain virtually no wood in them. The little wood if any used is mostly found in the cabinets or the furniture only. Most of them are made from fiberglass and they use either steel or aluminum for the chassis. They tend to be quite a bit more expensive than the units shown here. You have all these brands to choose from. There may be a few more I don’t know about. They are: Escape, Oliver, Scamp, Casita, Big Foot, Barefoot (a British brand made by Nu Camp in USA), Snoozy, Armadillo, Trillium, Cortez, and Happier Camper. These are all US or Canadian made camper/travel trailer trailer brands and most offer multiple models and sizes. Check them out and see if any are of interest to you.

  • Damn, that Zinger is NICE. Does anyone have a good recommendation on a good size (towing) for a v6 2023 Tacoma 4wd truck? I hear lots of "dry weight" and "hitch weight" and probably need to consult my owners manual but hoping someone might have a good rule of thumb on a small or medium RV that I should be looking for? I figured a tear drop or small-ish RV would be ok for the truck, don't want to do wheelies down the road or cause some major problems on my new truck. Need to get fitted and head to the country before the entire world starts to fall apart, need something nice and comfy for a single guy in a pickup truck :)

    @TexasRy@TexasRy7 ай бұрын
    • You will be over your weight by the time you pack and fill the water tanks. It's best to get a half ton truck at the very least. Having 4wd actually takes away towing capacity. You need it but you need a safe tow vehicle. Remember you will be pulling in not so nice conditions. You really need something wider and stiffer. The wind will blow you all over in a Tacoma

  • I purchased a 2019 R Pod 189 last year (July 2022). It’s my first camper and it came with a Reese weight distribution hitch and anti sway system. I have really enjoyed the camper and tow it with my 2015 Ford Explorer. It handles well and I have enjoyed its features. Changes? I’d like to get rid of the Dometic ammonia refrigerator and install a standard 110 fridge. Do you have any reviews of the newer R Pods?

  • I have an Ascape. Really like it. Easy to tow. Adequate size for 2 adults and a dog. Bit disappointed in the craftsmanship. Brand new but there were things I had to fix.

  • I have a camp light living light 11FDB. Is the best trailer ever made. Needs a pilot light heater for the winter. I heated the trailer in the winter with cans of crisco in the lavatory. Running water is useless because you can dump water over your head in the laboratory or you can pour water in the sink.

  • I dislike any designs that do not include a window over the sink. I really wish manufacturers would stop locating sinks facing walls!

  • I'm looking at the Sunset offerings, they've another just a bit smaller than the one you have showed. Still has a shower/toilet. There is an off road version.

  • Great content. I am pleased to see they are located in my neighboring state. I was looking into the alto but couldn’t find the USA 🇺🇸 site. Thanks for this information.

  • If I had to choose from these trailers I would go with the Humingbird or the Sunray. But honestly I would not go with any of these. Jayco is middle of the road for quality build. Honestly if you are going to go with a small trailer 20' or under go with a Grand design ( Imagine AIM is good) or Winnebago who both are owned by same manufacturer. They cost a bit more but the build quality is so much better.

    • True...these videos always include those by the major crap-makers (like Coachmen, Forest River, etc.) as they only focus on features, specs and eye-candy, not quality -- OR the warranty/Customer Care after the sale (usually poor, if any at all). Buyer Beware when buying an RV for sure -- whatever type it is (Class A, B, C, TT or 5er). -- BR

    • @@OG785 I have them delivering them for a living since 2012 over one million miles driven With different trailers and I talk to the dealerships. Yes, they all can have some build Issues, but usually the ones I mentioned are much better build quality. I should throw airstream in there also.

  • The Ascape is a cut trailer but needs a longer counter top, or a flip up cutting board at the end.

    • @elsie9649 Good idea, but I'm more worried about weight restrictions in relation to how much my small SUV can tow.

    • It's because of the cost of a Casita. The trailers shown are all under $20,000. Except the last one.
