This was done on the laptop screen. We believe that testing on an external monitor is not very relevant. If you are going to use an external monitor you should seriously consider getting a desktop instead.

It depends on the laptop. But on this laptop using an external monitor will lead to higher FPS. On most high-end laptops there is no gain on external monitors.

The laptop will exceed 90C while gaming. In fact any gaming laptop on the market will exceed 90C on the CPU while gaming. Overall, the laptop performed ok in terms of temperatures given what the competition has to offer.

It depends a little bit. For the same specs and the same price the Lenovo Legion 5 is currently the best, followed by the Nitro 5. The G15 runs hotter and its chassis has some dubious design choices, but it does give outstanding performance. So on its own, I would definitely recommend the G15, but it does have some tough competition from the Legion 5 and Nitro 5.

For the past 2 years, the Nitro 5 had the best price-value on the market for budget gaming. And if you have a bit more money, then definitely go for the Legion 5.

First of all, I don't know the market there. There are huge variations in price and configurations across regions. I am assuming you are looking at something which in USA would cost around $1000. I think you should be able to get something with a gtx 1660 Ti. Maybe a nitro 5 or a legion 5? The G15 might also work.

I would rather go with the Omen 15. The Omen 15 I would say it has slightly better cooling and overall better build quality. We have spoken before many times, I bought this Asus ROG Strix with GTX 1660 Ti but it's the 17 inch one. This laptop is really great. However one question I have is I noticed my laptop's TGP for the GTX 1660 Ti is 115W on armoury crate (Asus ROG) but for some reason it's showing 80W for you in your benchmark. Did it say it's 80w in Armoury Crate on your laptop or did it show 115W? I have never heard of a 115W GTX 1660 Ti that's why I'm really confused.
Ours was also 115 TGP but, what you see in the benchmarks in wattage by the GPU (processor). TGP means all the things that are related to a graphics card like video memory, fans, extra circuits. So from the 115 TGP the processor of the GPU its only using about 80-85W. Also there is another issue. There are laptops that have high TGP and high PL2 (CPU clock boost levels) but the charger is not sufficient for them. There you have software controls like nvidia panel or optimus that allocate (dynamically) power to the component that needs it more. You can set your GPU on max performance to bypass this (tutorial coming soon). I've been asking you a lot of questions but unfortunately I have another question, how does this laptop (GTX 1660 Ti) compare to the Asus Rog Strix g17 RTX 3060 Ryzen 9 5900Hx ? If u might have seen reviews, this new 3060 laptop has optimus thus leading to FPS loss. Will this laptop and the 3060 will give almost similar performance or the 3060 will have more? I saw a review and there was quite a significant fps loss
Optimus technology should not influence fps, but to be sure you can change the Power management mode from Nvidia Control Panel to Prefer Maximum Performance. From what we've tested so far the 3060 is performing slightly better (10 fps) to the 1660 Ti but the 3060 we've tested do not have high TGP values. Now regarding the Strix G17 3060 + Ryzen 9 5900HX it might perform worse than expected because of power limits. Almost all recently reviewed laptops were power throttling/limiting. I would go with a 5800H instead the 5900HX. The power limits can be removed or updated via bios updates but only if the manufacturer does it. From what i've seen the G17 3060 has a 130W TGP so that would be more than enough to beat the 1660ti (the 3060s we've tested so far had about 75-80W TGP so that would mean the G17 would be way better performing than the TUF A15 or the MSI GF75 and those already are outperforming the 1660Ti)

As you can see in our TUF A15 video kzhead.info/sun/jKepqr6ejIaplGw/bejne.html (green text) most games reach the maximum wattage available (limited from the manufacturer). That means even though there might be more power to give to the GPU, it is limited and cannot have more fps. I can give you a theoretical example: You have a 3060 130W TGP and a 5900HX that can go to 70+ watts when using all cores, but the manufacturer only gives you a 230W charger. Because of your hardware needing more power the manufacturer will power limit your CPU and GPU to never starve one of the components (advanced optimus is pretty decent at dynamically allocating power to components). They limit the power for two reasons: - so it wont draw power from the battery (even when plugged in - like the Acer Helios did) - so it can manage the heat output of the components So in theory a more demanding 5900HS will perform worse than a 5800HS if they have both the same power limit, charger, and cooling system. Most of the higher clocked i9 and probably even Ryzen 9 will perform worse than their less power hungry little brothers like the i7 or ryzen 7. We had a Thinkpad Extreme gen2 that perform worse than a U-variant because of the lack of cooling or power. If it is not a huge, beefy laptop don't go for higher-end components. Better to get something mid-range than going for high-end components in a badly designed chassis. The G17 is as beefy as you can get from ASUS, so it will perform decent enough. But if you have more money to spend you can get more performance from the same specifications if you go with an MSI GT, CLEVO or an Tongfang chassis. Laptops are strange you can get a 3080 that performs worse than a 3060...

Besides its a bigger laptop so I don't think it would be a massive problem. Would you recommend this rtx 3060 Ryzen 9 5900HX laptop ? I'm not able to find the Ryzen 7 5800H unit on stock unfortunately. Or would it bottleneck?

It depends on how much more expensive it is. The RTX 2060 is 15% faster than the GTX 1660 Ti, but it also has RTX features that create better visuals quality (smoother edges) without FPS loss. For $50-$100 i think it's worth it, otherwise, no.

There shouldn't be any serious heating issues. The RTC 2060 only uses marginally more power than the Gtx 1660 ti. Temperatures should be similar to our video.

It's the same laptop model, but laptop's come in different configurations. The one in our our video is a mid-range configuration, while yours is a low-end configuration. So your laptop will run like 30% slower than in our videos. Where are you from ?

Depends. Usually adding 8gb will I increase FPS by 15%, but I've seen cases where it does much more. Either way, adding another 8gb will definitely increase performance.

It really depends on the ambient temperature. As a setting, we only use max performance mode, and the fan profile that is the most aggressive.

Yes, we install 2-3 games , test, uninstall, install next 2-3 games. We are in Romania, we have 1 Gbs internet, we download a game in a few minutes. I don't know how much space they took, we never counted. We only use legit games, never pirated. Yes, on your SSD you can have both RD2 and GTA V.

How much fps is diffrent between gtx1660ti and Rtx2060?
Depends on the game and what Rtx features are enabled. In terms of raw performance, the Rtx is 15% faster than the Gtx. However, the Rtx will perform noticeably better at lower FPS and it will be able to enable antialiasing without much performance penalty.

The laptop doesn't throttle at all. The laptop does run hot, but we wouldn't call it "uncomfortably" hot. Overall, it's an ok laptop, but the Omen 15 and the lenovo legion 5 runs cooler while providing the same performance.

Yes, all of these are great laptops. Whichever you get will ran all your games perfectly. I can't really recommend any of them over another, it all comes down to price and personal preferences.

We just reviewed laptops with Rtx 3060. Some perform worse than a gtx 1660ti due to variable tgp. Between the Rtx 2060 and the Rtx 3060, at the same tdp, the performance difference is around 10% or less.

DLSS will definitely help 2-3 years from now. But I don't think it give such a huge advantage over gtx. Most games will probably implement AMD DLSS in the upcoming years, since all consoles are AMD. AMD DLSS works on gtx. Over the past 15 years Nvidia often brought to the market some propriety technology, only to get replaced later by an open source version made by AMD which works without Nvidia 's limitations. It's the same now with DLSS and ray tracing.
