  • People forget how good Murray used to be, and why Djokovic has always openly admired Murray’s return of serve and backhand. Whilst Murray’s peak may not have been as long as the Big 3 and his performance now may be somewhat dented as a result of his injuries; he was incredible at his best. You don’t get to be World Number 1 in the Big 3 era by accident, good fortune or coincidence.

    • Rafa always had the game to beat Djokovic on any surface even in 2011, but he let Djokovic get in his head, just like Fed let Nadal get in his, tennis is heavily heavily psychological, much more than any other sport in my opinion.

      @valdencorr2861@valdencorr2861 Жыл бұрын
    • @@valdencorr2861 In the 2nd half of the year it may have been partially psychological, but I also think Nadal had just never played against that version of Djokovic and was caught off guard. He had a clear game plan from playing Djokovic in 2006-2010 and largely dominating the H2H. But in 2011 he sees Djokovic but amplified to a ridiculous degree and didn’t know what to do. In 2012 he made the right adjustments by playing more aggressively and dictating with his forehand, rather than trying to go toe-to-toe like he used to. Hence why the AO final was so close and Nadal dominated on clay.

Nadal has always struggled in HC especially indoors. Nadal's best in HC is simply not enough for Novak at best. Other can't beat Novak in HC let alone Nadal. About the straight sets victory, it is bound to happen because of Nadal's weaker serve and Djoker best return, so he gets broken easily. With that said, i would like if Nadal proves us wrong and he defeats Djoker atleast twice in HC before their career ends.

  • My biggest regret watching Murray is wondering how much more he might’ve won if he didn’t get injured. I’m sure he and Djokovic would’ve dominated up til even now. Murray would be close or past 900 wins. He would be 55+ tournament wins. And at least 2/3 if not more, slams. He would’ve stayed world number one for all of 2017 and into 2018. • Not knocking Alcaraz, he's an ATG in the making, but Murray had to accumulate almost 13000 points just to topple Novak in 2016. The fact that a world number 1 can reach the top with barely 7000 points nowadays tells you it was a far more difficult era to summit back then.

    • @@paulcoffield2102 Carlos does have the potential to be one of the greats, too early to say whether he will be an all time great. Hard to beat the records of Novak and Rafa and the influence Roger had on the sport. He does have it a tad easy, had the places been switched between Andy and Carlos, Andy would be dominating the tour and Carlos perhaps would've succumbed to peak big 3. Definitely agree with you, Andy had it tougher back then. He's a true champion in my eyes.

    • @@paulcoffield2102 Another reason is that rankings are a mess in particular this year. Politics didn't let Novak play AO, USO, he didn't get any points for Wimbledon. Had that not been the case, world no.1 would have been Novak. Despite AO, USO if Wimbledon gave points, Rafa would be world no.1 not Carlos.

      @AD98.@AD98. Жыл бұрын
    • @@paulcoffield2102 Well there’s quite a bit of season left to go, and Wimbledon didn’t count this year, so that’s like 5000 available points, but I get what you mean. The thing is, Nadal and Djokovic don’t care about rankings right now. Winning a slam is as difficult as ever, because that’s where Nadal and Djokovic bring their absolute best and focus. But getting #1 isn’t as hard as Nadal prioritizes resting his body and family matters, and Djokovic also tends to rest quite a bit nowadays. I’d also argue the competition in 2016 was kinda weak. Nadal and Federer were both injured, and didn’t really play well when healthy. The generation of Zverev, Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Thiem still were practically teenagers. The Berdych, Ferrer, Tsonga generation was on its last legs (and a bit weak anyways). Wawrinka was playing well but inconsistent as always, mostly peaking for slams. That left Djokovic (who lost motivation midway through the season) and Murray to dominate the sport. I guess Milos Raonic was pretty good…

  • What an excellent performance by Andy. I really miss pre-hip injury Murray. When the Scott played at his peak, he was very close to the level of the big 3. Nadal is a great player, legend and one of the best, but certainly one of the most overrated players in the history of our sport. Some claim the man is as or more all-around than Federer and Djokovic, but this is completely absurd. Let's look at some of the facts: - 0 World Tour Finals Titles - Poor results indoors - Horrible results at Wimbledon 2012- 2017 - 1-7 vs Twilight Federer that is 5 to 6 years older - Winless against against Djokovic and Federer off of clay since 2013 and 2014 - Loses to mid tiers in slams such as Muller, Tiafoe, James Blake, Ferrer, Verdasco and low ranked players such as Rosol, Dustin Brown and Darcis - Primarily had success not because he was technically special and all-around, but because he abused extreme topspin as a lefty. This gave him an advantage against the tour. - Never a better player than Federer, but a complete mismatch that was able to abuse his extreme topspin to Federers backhand

    • Lol right Murray beat multi-slam champion Djokovic to win two of his slam titles. Murray’s first slam final was at US open 2008. He lost to Federer in the final but arguably had a better run than Alcaraz’s US Open win. Murray beat Rafa who was world no. 1 and also beat wawrinka and Delpo. Alcaraz was lucky that Djokovic couldn’t play in the US, best players he beat were Sinner, Cilic and Ruud. The top 10/20 used to be stronger
