    • @@jacobschmidt2709 Between IW R2 and the final in Beijing, he had 0 losses on hard. From March 'till October. That's 3 Masters and one 1 GS on hard. The level he displayed on HC that year was the best in his career. "Won 2 slams, but sucked at the other two". He did not play the AO in 2013 due to a stomach virus. That means he sucked at it? 😂 You mentioned only his losses, but outside the Darcis match, they all came in finals or semifinals of those tournaments. In addition, he won RG, Madrid and Rome that year. So how is his 2013 season overrated? In 2008 and 2010 he did not come back after a 7 month injury, so what he pulled off in 2013 is gotta be the best comeback season ever seen in tennis, on a par with Roger Federer's 2017.

The angles pace flatness he was getting ( in 2017) was like playing two monstrous FHs at once(like Ruud himself said after the final), That level of his BH was reached again In 2022 final but, Ruud's lack of depth behind his loopyshots also helped it a bit allowing Rafa to take it early and find angles opening up the court. 2008 circa his BH was defensively so great. I miss him so much as a lifelong fan. Pray Daily that he has one final run at RG.

He wasn't at his peak, though. 07-12 only represents the time all 4 were in their primes simultaneously. The only shared peak seasons they had were 09, 11, and part of 12 (which imo would have been the best big 4 year were it not for Nadal's injuries). As for Nadal's HC prime, that didn't really come until after his 2 disaster seasons in 15/16 (even though he was great 2010 and beyond as well), at which point he began altering his game. That is the only no look handshake I can ever recall Djokovic doing (if someone else knows of another instance of Djokovic doing a no look handshake win or lose, I'd be very interested to see it so please let me know!). Meanwhile Rafa actually waited at the net for Djokovic to turn around and was looking at Djokovic when he put his hand up to apologize. Plus Rafa made sure to say it in words to Djokovic at the net after the match was finished. Additionally the big 3 all have immense respect for one another and their handshakes are always very respectful so Novak was never really gonna do a no look handshake with Rafa. Go back to Wimbledon 2019 where Nick did it to Rafa intentionally (even admitting so in press) and didnt apologize...the handshake afterwards wasnt a no looker but was a very quick one.

  • The great thing about Rafa in 2013 is that he took the #1 spot for the year from prime Djokovic. He is probably the biggest difference from 2010. There is no doubt that Rafa had a great showing in 2010, but I don't think there were enough threats to him. Novak, who was in poor form at the time, and Roger, who was past his peak. Compared to 2010, 2013 must have been a very difficult environment in terms of having a prime Djokovic. For Rafa, prime Novak is the opponent who is the worst match for him, but even so, they were even at 3-3 that year. He outscored him in points for the year. In addition, Rafa's winning percentage exceeded 90% for the first time in his career that year. This was after competing in numerous tournaments. Without a doubt, this is one of his best seasons.

  • If Montreal is a slower court then I think it shows how important surfaces are in tennis, especially for Rafa as no player has done more to actually create a GOAT DEBATE. I’ve said that the only body representing global tennis is the ATP, there’s no competitor. ATP will decide what points are allocated to what tournament. For example, I’m shocked at how low down the pecking order Queens grass tournament is, only 7% of all tournaments are on grass. As we all know the majority are on hard and favour the hard court player. ATP could easily change the points system and make the Latin America clay tournaments an ATP 1000. They don’t. So based on all that in this era of tennis, Djokovic - hard court beast, Nadal - clay court beast, Federer - grass court beast (only just though), plus Federer transcends eras as he’s 5 years older minimum than the other two so gets a slight pass from me.
