Few months ago i forged my first hook knife at home. Just pushed the old chisel into the fire in the kitchen and made my first tool by hammering some hot steel on a little anvil nailed into a wooden brick:D Right now i'm making my first forge in the old bucket. It may take some time, depending on my service travels, but it's fun! @Torbjörn Åhman Thank you for inspiration and also showing your mistakes. Just not by TA, actually no makers mark on it unfortunately, just a weight mark... Clearly early century factory work, but still made by hand in just the same way.

When he dropped the hammer head after he hardened it you could hear the high pitched ring that tells you just how hard the hammer head is. Old timers don't need no Rockwell hardness tester. They just listen to the ring of the metal.
