  • One of the best rallies ever. So happy I caught this live. So happy for Sinner he got it done tonight and that he got an all-time rally on the way. This was ridiculous.

    @AnthonyHirsch@AnthonyHirsch Жыл бұрын
    • @@mmlice ofc it is. Way more ridiculous not to call it what it is... Been watching tennis my whole life and have been obsessed with amazing rallies. There are only a few I'd put above it, fed hewitt indian wells, Fed Murray in Shanghai, Murray Dimitrov in Acapulco MAYBE, Nadal Djokovic rallies in multiple places, Fed Rafa at Australian Open, Becker Lendl match point, that one I think with chang where he hits around the net then runs back. There are several amazing ones I'd put up there somewhere, but yea no this is absolutely one of the best points ever. The absolute ridiculous athleticism and skill on display is unparalleled. Carlos fell over on the 20th shot in the rally and the point was still not over, there were still several amazing shots in the rally. The last two shots Jannik hit after having to run back ten shots in to even stay in the rally. The pace on their shots and being so amazing and effective even off insanely difficult shots from difficult positions. They pushed each other to the absolute limit here and it showed the best of their rivalry here cause barely anybody plays tennis to this quality. Don't be ridiculous, man, this is up there as one of the best of all time and I consider myself a connoisseur in amazing tennis points lol been watching them forever, old and new

      @AnthonyHirsch@AnthonyHirsch Жыл бұрын
    • @@mmlice Yeah Djokovic and Nadal had some sick rallies in 2011 US Open that would already beat this rally let alone "ever" when there have been so many amazing rallies in the history of the sport. Great point though.

      @MalphasMikaelson@MalphasMikaelson Жыл бұрын
    • @@MalphasMikaelson I don't understand the complications around calling this "one of" the best points ever. Not saying it is the best point ever. Saying it's up there as one of them. Not sure how this could be controversial. Like sure there were maybe five shots that were too central and Carlos's dropper to start wasn't the best ever and then Jannik MAYBE could have gone line and then Carlos's retrieval off that shot went a little too center and allowed Jannik back into the point. Also the slice as amazingly effective as it was off of the difficult Jannik shot did set up for a potential pass from Jannik, not like the winner came from absolutely nowhere. Like a few other winners in amazing rallies I can think of. But regardless. How u can watch this rally of 25 super athletic amazing dynamic shots both giving their all and MIRACULOUSLY staying in the point and not think it's one of the best is beyond me. Giving their all with such athleticism and heavy pace of shot, precision, so much skill on display and just high intensity the whole rally. The angles they constantly created, no dull moment in the rally not a one. 20 or so unbelievable shots, to stay competing that intensely for that period. One of the better rallies ever... Yes ever. Naming me five rallies better than this one, sure that seems quite possible. But name me ten, twenty, thirty I'll be a little surprised and will disagree. It's one of the best ever. Idc how young or new the names are. Just like how their US Open match was one of the best matches ever. Let's just appreciate the utterly brilliant dynamic and matchup we have here and the quality tennis they bring. Cause it's fresh, unique, and just exquisite, man.

    • Unfortunately, the match itself wasn’t very high level overall. Second set and third set especially, but late first set had a lot of errors too. I don’t know if it was the pressure of the hype around this matchup or what, but neither of them have brought their absolute best the last two times they’ve played. Still a great matchup, don’t get me wrong, but it has had way too many unforced errors.

      @SJ-di5zu@SJ-di5zu Жыл бұрын
    • @@SJ-di5zu I think that’s how their matches are always going to be. It’s the pressure from the other player that causes errors. They are so close with their level, that hitting winner past the other in a normal exchange or even getting the upper hand in a rally requires something special, high percentage shot making is not enough. That’s why Alcaraz made so many double faults, because Sinner was killing his second serves. And the same goes for the ball striking, they both had to play on the edge and it brought out many errors, as it’s too demanding physically and psychically. Besides that, Alcaraz didn’t have his best day in the office, his 1st serve was very much off.

      @patrikmarflak6559@patrikmarflak6559 Жыл бұрын
    • When you play that high level in any aspect of this sport, something like hitting the net also becomes an indirect “forced error”, these two kids were literally ripping each other off, how can you keep a level of perfection physically, mentally and technically when both players are both playing on a high crazy level? Even Alcaraz’ bad service was partially the result of a great return from sinner which obligated Alcaraz to find new solutions, to improvise, to force and finally making errors… then by making errors mentally something breaks and the same confidence that made you annihilate your opponents for two weeks straight starts cracking…. I think the result of the too high level of the first set exhausted them both, dropping a little bit of accuracy but still maintaining the entertaining factor that is undoubtably present every time they face.

  • Carlos' smile (maybe even a laugh) after this epic exchange represents the beauty of this sport. This fantastic athlete at that moment enjoys thinking about how beautiful and unpredictable this sport is, surely he thought he had made the point in different moments of the exchange but ultimately failed to make it after all the unbelievable balls he had played. I think it's true for both of them that they enjoy these challenges and that their rivalry is one of the best ever seen on the tennis circuit.
