I think that Thorfinn probably felt this mood in season 1 right after his father death, then when he decided to get his revenge he started filling his void with pure anger, the moment Askeladd died he got into ptsd again and even far more worse

Yet, the burning flames of hatred and revenge towards Askeladd, along with his pride as a warrior, swept away all human emotions from his heart, forcing him to forget peace, comfort, family, affection, and the teachings of Thors. Still, deep within Thorfinn's heart, the childhood longing for Vinland continued to slumber. Despite his disdain for wars and the culture of warriors, the conflict of being an exceptional fighter mirrored the very struggles Askeladd bore. Even at this time, Thorfinn began to show hints of becoming another Askeladd.
Meeting Einar saved Thorfinn, it brought his true self back and gave him a new purpose of protecting the weak and powerless. In the end he became a true warrior.

Recommend some quality anime like this one...
I honestly can’t think of very many that tackle the same kinds of issues as Vinland Saga, but one new anime I would recommend is Zom100 if you haven’t seen it yet. It deals with the terrible work culture in Japan, and I found it to be incredibly relatable. Maybe you will too. It’s also from the same mangaka who wrote Alice in Borderland.

Season 2 is filtering Casual Fans. The end Season 2 of Thorfinn really at the best of himself, he has strong and wise mind than he ever was.
