@@millmoormichael6630 we needed depth more than anything. That 08/09 defense of Carra, Hypia, Agger and Skrytel along with Aurelio and Arbeloa was pretty good. Not the best backline in the League or but it was certainly solid. When you look at many of our options from the bench, it left a lot to be desired, especially when some of our players, like Torres, picked up injuries that season, which was our main Achilles heel Our forward depth was downright atrocious aside from Torres and Kuyt. We also bought Robbie Keane in summer 2008 and sent him back in the January window even though we could've done with the depth that ended up costing us dearly. Our full back depth wasn't very good either and some of the midfield depth was poor as well As an XI the squad was absolutely world class on its day but as an overall team, it just wasn't as good as the Liverpool teams that came before and after it. People also forget that while that was one of the best Liverpool teams ever assembled, that era also had one of the best Barca, United and Chelsea teams of all time as well
Torres has played with legendary Goalies like Casillas but he still picks Oblak over them, what a player Oblak is.
Chris Omatic Oblak is one of the best shot stoppers of all time but Casillas was more all rounded, just remember the Liverpool vs RM semi final game if it wasn’t for him would’ve been like 8 or 9 goals

Such a great point he made about the difference between being “before and after” playing with Gerrard. Certainly, Gerrard made a lot of players better - that’s one of the things that makes him Liverpool’s greatest, personally the best midfielder I’ve seen in the premier league in my lifetime.

meh...alot of the shots were straight at him, while we also got very complacent in the second half (probably took the game for granted and thought that they would do enough in the second half to score), with mane trying 2 overhead kicks ffs. Good performance, but alot of it had to do with bad finishing and complacency

Torres leaving for Chelsea was my first ever true heartbreak in terms of a player leaving, and I survived Henrik "The King of Kings" Larsson leaving Celtic when I was 7. The difference is in how they left. Henrik left by mutual consent after 7 dedicated years, Torres forced his way out. Still one of my all-time favourites regardless.
I really love Torres! What I wouldnt give to see him play as a striker in his prime once again... Favorably with the exact team he named here! So many legendary players and some of my favourite players of all time!

gerrard is one of the most underrated player even though he’s still considered as legend. if he played in superstar team, he could be considered as best midfielder of all time with every award winning.
At his peak he was the most complete player/midfielder of all time. If I had to clone a player to make up a complete team (other than the GK) I'd choose Gerrard. I'd be confident in that team being able to beat any other team put in front of it.
i dont know about of all time It's arguable he was the best player in the world in 2008, baring in mind this was when Messi and Ronaldo were most of the way through their transition into monsters.
@@tomspreadbury2915 The likes of Messi and Ronaldo are fantastic attackers, but they have a limited skill-set/position. Gerrard at his peak could play brilliantly in any outfield position, therefore I'd rather have a team of Gerrards over a team of Messis or Ronaldos.

Having one Gerrard is like having an extra player playing for you especially when he was in his peak from age 24 to 29. Covered every blade of grass, passed like a pass master, long range or short passes. Dribbled with lung busting surging sprints and had a great eye for goal with rifled shots and being an aeria threat in the box. To me he was the complete midfielder
