What Army Recruits Go Through At Boot Camp
Here's an inside look at the United States Army's intense 22-week basic training known as OSUT, which stands for One Station Unit Training. Senior Video Correspondent Graham Flanagan spent four days at the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence located inside the Fort Benning military installation near Columbus, Georgia, where he observed different companies at various stages of training.
After a processing period that takes one to two weeks, recruits experience what's known as a "shark attack," when drill sergeants create a high-stress environment through a series of rapid-fire instructions and commands. Once the intensity subsides and training begins, the dynamic between the drill sergeants and the recruits evolves into one found between a teacher and students in a classroom.
Despite rainy conditions that rarely let up during filming, we saw various dynamic aspects of training, such as marksmanship, tear gas exposure, and MOUT, which stands for military operations in urban terrain.
In the video, we incorrectly refer to duffle bags as rucksacks. Insider regrets the error.

drill sergeant: acting intimidating to scare recruits recruit: 🗿
USMC DI’s didn’t act intimidating like these guys. They genuinely were.
@@dylanwatson270 our infantry Drill Sergeants could be intimidating, but yeah, all the other ones were just acting. Some of them were just downright silly

Just thinking of being back in the shit gets me a raging hard on, especially when it involves spent casings and the smell of taxpayer funded 62 grain freedom pellets leaving the shaft of a long barrel. Getting that globe is the only time you ever become a man, and for the women, becoming a wookie. (if you know what i mean). Most days, I think back to the days just before i left my sweet marine home away from home, and shed a single manly tear that I didn't give a leg or two for israel. The thoughts hurt worse when I wake up for my job at subway and think i won't be getting yelled at by a pay-grade higher than me. The only remainder i have left of the marines is my heterosexual boyfriend who uses me as a personal NBC glove full of sticky MRE applesauce on lonely nights - not gonna leave a bro hanging! Anyways, I couldn't help but notice that a fellow marine like yourself has a VERY manly profile picture of a John Deere™️ logo and I'll tell you that even through my computer i would death grip your thick firing hand and give it a firm shake. I myself would use such a masculine picture or maybe a Ford™️ logo to not regret my purchase on an F-150. @@jasonbisdead in pretty sure he or she iz making fun of the student loan crisis in our country and not necessarily the men and women who enlist

He was my cousin's Drill Sergeant, me and my family were on base a few days before graduation, my cousin talked him into yelling at me, he scared the shit out of me, I was just sitting there talking to my sister, next thing I now he's yelling and my family starts laughing. That's not the solution! The solution is to make the immigrants who are given a free ticket into the USA, serve in the US forces to earn their free ticket and prove they believe in our freedom. OSUT is an option, not a requirement. I always wanted to join but life got in the way till I made it happen. Found myself running around Fort Knox Basic one year. I was 34 years old. Basic was EPIC!! The whole break you down build you up didn't work on the hand full of 30 somethings in my unit. Watching 18 to 20 year olds become absolutely unhinged while being yelled at, smoked and given impossible tasks where no matter what someone will fail and everyone pushes. Us old guys had been married before. This isn't yelling. Let me tell you about yelling...... I found basic to be extremely easy following just one rule. Do whatever the guy in the hat says and do it like it's the best thing you have ever done and do it at 110%. They sorta left us alone a few weeks in. Everyone took command at some point and you lost it when you made a mistake which was 100% going to happen so everyone would have a turn up front. Usually you got a day or two. We got 2hrs. We went to basic after EXHAUSTIVE research and practice before we went to basic so we knew what we were doing. So command came and went in hours instead of days for us 30 somethings. We also NEVER failed to raise a hand before any DI got to teer when they said "we need a few volunteers." We became invisible to them in week 5 even if we were the only ones with our hands up. LOL Trust me. DO THE SAME THING. Did the same thing in AIT and once I got to load and fire a Dillon minigun that was being tested after volunteering for a task which ended up being go through these belts of ammon and take out the tracers and replace them will ball. Three days of that. (Holdunder at AIT waiting for a class) The surprise was being able to fire the gun so like I said. Put your hand up for everything. It will pay off. I can't recommend experiencing basic, AIT and deploying enough. Those experiences dominate my "what the hell did I get myself into" memories and all of them are pretty damn good ones. Oh it's going to absolutely SSSUUUCCCKKK at times but so worth it!! Only meant to spend a few years after putting my IT career on hold to serve. I stayed for 12 years. Army Aviation power turbine ending repairer working on UH-60s. Now I have my GI BIll, VA loan, Access to USAA and medical. It is SOOOOOOOO worth your time to jump in right after HS. I wish I did. Just 2 or 3 years then bail but the longer you stay the more your GI-Bill covers. Do it right and you could make money without working while going to school on the GI-Bill after you serve. The only rule you need to follow to make it through basic is like I said. Do whatever the guy in the hat says and do it like you love it and do it at 110%. You WILL fail from time to time. Be it your fault or an impossible task that you can't pass. Roll with it. Those 10 weeks fly by. AIT is another world after the first month. Deploying is insane. My first deployment was to Iraq. Oh it sucked but the tales I have from it are EPIC. It's no joke from start to finish though. Shit CAN go sideways. I took a bullet. That's about as real as real gets in the military. Even that is a fun story now. I guarantee you will come out a better person with a new outlook on life. Like. Working on deployments 16 hour days for 2 months with no days off then switching to 12 hours 6 days a week. Coming back to a 8hr 5 day work week is NOTHING. To this day 8 hours is nothing to me. I STILL feel like I don't have enough hours to get what I want done at work. LOL You will become a MASTER at hurry up and wait. The lines. OMG the lines. Nobody said there would be this many lines in the military. There's a line for the line most of the time. After the military and you come across a sign that says 3 hour wait from this point you say HURRY UP and get in. It's only 3 hours from here!!!! No joke. You WILL feel like that. The morals, values and ethics you learn will serve you well. If you are on the fence jump off and go! Some MOS are only 2 year commitments. 2 to 6 years I think is the min range. Depends on your MOS. 2 Years is NOTHING. POOF. Done. Holy crap where did the time go? GO!!!!!! You won't regret it....... Much........ LOL

I’m in the military and I’m happy our drill sergent was rough. It made me stronger. I love my country to the point that it’s my soul and duty to serve it. It gave me freedom and I’m using it to defend it against any and all threats. USA is my blood. I’ll be happy to have a drill sergent that wreck me to the point of breaking with building me to the point of honor.
God bless Israel
I salute you drill sergeant my respect to you sir❤❤❤
If a Spartan saw this, I'm sure he would say, "Aww, reminds me when I was only 11 years old."

I can say in the Army we were well fed! Not much time to eat, but well fed! You learned how to make all kinds of sandwiches to wolf it down fast!
I finished basic 6 months ago, went through airborne, and now it’s so funny to watch these videos. It seems so bad while you’re there, tons of people are homesick, anxious etc; then you get out and it’s almost a fond memory. Life is so simple while you’re there. They tell you when you eat, what to wear, what to eat, and where to be. Almost like being a child again...in a very screwed up way.
"Almost being a child again, in a screwed up way" 😂😂😂😂
Sounds interesting though, and I'm sure going through something like this would be great for your discipline. Kind of wish I could do it.
Is boot camp hard when you're there?
@@blackarchangel6923 Nothing you do at boot camp is “hard”. A monkey could successfully do 98% of what they ask of you. It’s a lot of small stressors that can add up to overwhelm you. You’ll probably feel a bit homesick and disconnected; but you’ll make friends in basic and start having fun at week 2-3. Reception is honestly the worst part.
