The Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes in game 3 but the story was all about Sergei Bobrovsky. His performance in these playoffs.. are getting out of control. With his first ever NHL playoff shutout, he put on a clinic in this game & clearly frustrated the hell out of the Carolina Hurricanes. We break down some of his best saves & how having a goalie this red hot changes the mentality of both teams for the rest of the series.

Even without Svech and Patches, we are still deserving of being where we are right now, and as you state in the video, over time these expected goals would even out, and at that point things may be different... BUT... this isn't that point, and Bobrovsky is playing like a Marvel superhero right now... I've never seen anything like it.. something like a .990 (or some such) over the last 2 games? Unreal performance, and even as a Canes fan, I have no choice but to tip my cap to the man (and the team), and say go win it all (unless of course we can find some miracle of a way to advance)!

  • I was a goaltender 30 years ago - it was a very different position then - But what Bobrovsky is doing so well is playing angles/position perfectly. The glove save is the perfect example - he didn't move his glove because his angle and position was perfect. Too many goalies (at the pro level) are spending too much time on their knees, which opens the top of the net for shooters. He knows when to cover the ice, and when not too.. he is killing it.

When everyone criticized him for not helping out for the money that he was signed for.But he alone could not help out against the offenses of other teams without the help of their own D-line. Now in this playoff we see that the defenders help their goalie, and the goalie becomes self-confident, therefore his professional qualities become even stronger than they were and he starts to help out at important moments when the D's make a mistakes and we all who are watching from sides are surprised at these moments.. I have always been confident in his top class.. Even in these games he still is giving up 3 goals or more. Carolina tappered off and the goals against went down. Hey got paid millions of dollars to do this all the time regardless of who is in front of him. If you don't think he was out played by them then look at each other and the back up goalies to see they were a goals against lower and usually about 30 to 40 points in save percentage above him. ALEX LYON WON SIX STRAIGHT GAMES WITH THIS TEAM! The bounces are going his way and the entire team is pulling together. If he gives up 3, they score 4. If he gives up 5, they score six or 7. • Excellent analysis of Bob's performance. Every so often a goalie gets hot and you have that feeling that if they can see it, they are going to stop it. I definitely felt that during the Toronto series, that they only way they were going to get a goal is with a screen or deflection. But Canes are doing some of that and even that's not working. Definitely the best playoff performance for a goalie I can remember in a long time.

  • I would say this is the best goaltending performance I've seen since 2003 where Jean-Sebastien Giguère allowed only 1 goal in 4 games. Blocked 122/123 shots (or .992). I know the Wild wasn't as good as the Canes are right now but that was insane

  • I felt pretty good about the Panthers’ chances after they took out the Bruins, a historic upset, and coming back from 3-1 in that series. But their solid showing with the Leafs had me confident they’d go all the way to the cup finals. Still, I would not have guessed 3-0 against the Canes, with the sixth longest game in the NHL! This playoffs is completely off the chain. If anyone can stop the Vegas Golden Knights, it’s this team!

  • Retired beer league goalie and STL Blues fan here. Have watched and played hockey since 1968. BOB has played the best sustained goaltending I have ever seen in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Binnington was lights out for the Blues 4 years ago, but only in some games. He had some real clunkers in that run as well. I cite Binnington as a Cup winning example to show the contrast, because Bobrovsky has been great in every game. BTW, I had some lights out games as a beer league goalie. When people saw me, they wanted to turn the rink lights out so they wouldn’t see the debacle! 🤣

That and the Florida Panthers doing so well in the playoffs (though they lost in the Stanley Cup final, but they made it at any rate and that's what I care about) are the reasons why Florida is my second favorite team and Bobrovsky is one of my favorite players.

But the announcer last night acting like the Canes are a sorry team who should be ashamed of their playoff performance might be the lowest IQ person I’ve heard. Canes are not being outplayed, Bob is just killing us and saving everything. Sometimes you run into a brick wall and despite your efforts it’s not enough. FLA’s only goal was off a Canes’ player’s stick and off another soft PP.

When you are hot and playing on a great team, you know that you will stop nearly everything and the one that gets past you has to be a perfect shot. 😉 I usually only watch Canucks games, but Bob has made me a Panthers fan. • I'm glad you put a focus on Florida's defense. Bob is definitely on another level, but Florida as a team has done a great job limiting the high danger chances (especially prior to Barkov's injury early in game 3) while capitalizing heavily on their own high danger chances despite the shot disparity. Shots on goal are not all created equal, after all. This is why you pay goalies the big bucks. It just so happens that Bob has finally gotten to show with us why we made moves to get him. The cardiac cats are alive and well, and it's awesome to see after so little success throughout the franchise's short history.
