Put 10,000 Horsepower In A Small Boat and This Is What Happens

2018 ж. 9 Қар.
13 923 328 Рет қаралды

The quickest accelerating boats on the planet. Top Fuel Drag Boats accelerate from 0 - 270 miles per hour (430 kilometres per hour) in just 3.5 seconds. They use a supercharged V8 engine running on nitro-methane fuel and produce 10,000 horsepower. The amazing photo of the red boat, Toxic Rocket, in the thumbnail was taken by Mark Sharley Photography. Big Thanks Mark: / mark.sharley.5

  • All courtesy of Charles Parsons that invented the steam turbine and dropped them into a boat that ripped the propellers to shreds. So he built a small water tank and a high-speed camera which showed a phenomenon called "cavitation". Tiny vacuum bubbles that degraded the metals and he redesigned the props to withstand this to make the worlds fastest ship - by four times over and changed marine history forever. Without props that can withstand the solid uncompressability of water and the cavitation that takes place these props would explode instantly with far less than 10K of horsepower. And he did it in 1894 with the ship "Turbinia". *That's being way ahead of your time.*

  • For those viewers thinking that these engines don’t put out 10,000 HP, you are right. For the 2018 season, top fuel engines are estimated to produce close to 11,000 HP. A few facts: No engine dyno exists that can handle all this power and give an exact HP reading; it is calculated based on a number of factors. The engines are fitted with a supercharger that typically provides 60 PSI of boost, but can provide 74 PSI Max. At max boost, it takes 1,000 HP just to turn the blower; 900 HP at normal boost. Two spark plugs per cylinder, two massive distributors per engine with an ignition system that generates 60 amps. When the engines are used in Top Fuel dragsters on land, the engines will propel the car to 100 MPH in the length of the dragster; that is 25 feet.

  • This is my first time ever sitting and just watching this kind of genre of drag racing. What they do with these machines is impressive. When these things launch, the entire hull looks like it just wants to go airborne. Between the builders standing there in the pits and gassing these power plants under a tent to drivers making under four second passes while keeping it steady on the waters surface... yeah wow. These guys aren’t messing around.

Totinos is a popular brand, if you want to look them up. You buy them in the frozen section of a grocery store and cook them in the oven.

My mother (rest her soul) use to tell people she knew when I drove up the driveway because all the windows in the house would rattle. We had a nice brick house. Also, I noticed that when I pulled up beside someone at a stop light, people would turn and look at me every time. A friend told me it made his car vibrate. My truck body would shake when in gear, running. So I understand what you are talking about. Nowhere near 10,000hp though. .

  • I would REALLY like to see one of these races in person. AND a sprint boat race. Two on my bucket list. I was amazed when I saw one of these boats in person the first time...they are TINY! I've seen an unlimited "offshore" race, and that was spectacular. What really amazes me with these boats is the safety in place and how well it functions. I've seen several "incidents" where I didn't think the pilot had any chance of survival, and usually "walks away" unscathed. Kudos to whoever made this happen.

  • The thing that always stuns me when I watch these guys is how the rooster tail of water is still falling at the start line AFTER the boat shuts down at the end of the run! Even when they ran the full quarter mile, the rooster tail hung in the air until after shutdown. Eddie Hill once said his top-fuel dragster didn't accelerate as hard as his boat! It's just wrong!
