It probably does. They are jet boats, so the output of the motor is what turns it. All that power, no weight, turns quick.

its possible cause of the jet drive! it enables the boat to turn via thrust which makes it much more agile, just like thrust vectoring on a fighter jet.

We do it heaps in NZ. Not with sprint boats like these, but Hamilton Jets. Same kinda boat. V8 in the back of the boat, hooked up in a way where there is no propeller in the water. Allows for boating in literally inches of water. Great fun.

That jet drive is pulling the water into the bottom of the boat with so much force that it sucks the boat down into the water and plants it just like downforce would on a car. This allows them to corner as if they're breaking the laws of physics. Pretty dang awesome.

I went travelling in New Zealand, and there are places you could actually ride in one of these things as the passanger. Absolutely nuts. The acceleration and cornering G's are breathtaking. The driver(? pilot? captain?) told me they accelerate 0-60 faster than a Porsche. And the noise? It reaches deep down into your hind brain, and stamps a really stupid grin on your face. The only thing I did on that trip that overloaded my brain more was my first (non-tandem) jump out of a plane.

@@produKtNZ No. That's a tourist ride for people with weak hearts. I'm talking the same size two seater with a howling v8 butted up to the back of your seat like in the above video. And the course was _really_ narrow and twisty like above too. I suspect the professional pilot was not giving it the full beans, but it was still breathtaking for someone who has never experienced it before. It was near 20 years ago now, and I have no idea if they are still operating and couldn't tell you the name of the company to save my life. They may have changed name, or gone out of business by now for all I know. I see some companies offering jetsprint rides today, but they look to have much wider (i.e. safer) courses than I remember, and some are even four seater. In other words, they are much tamer.

The boat's "jet" impeller drive was invented in New Zealand in the 1950's. Racing them was a sure thing as soon as there was two of them! The engines and impellers have ceratinly improved over the years, but it all started in NZ :)

as a car racing enjoyer this is my first time watching jetspring and oh my god, these guys push the limits so much that i cant help but say WOW
the power is amazing, they dont even turn like normal boats, the way the engines thrust can keep it from drifting is insane

They have a jet drive so the output can be turned. That is how they steer so sharp

first saw these guys on speed channel back in the day. crewed a IMSA car for a year but it was boring compared to these guys. coolest racing i've seen. has to be a wild ride.

its possible cause of the jet drive! it enables the boat to turn via thrust which makes it much more agile, just like thrust vectoring on a fighter jet.

We do it heaps in NZ. Not with sprint boats like these, but Hamilton Jets. Same kinda boat. V8 in the back of the boat, hooked up in a way where there is no propeller in the water. Allows for boating in literally inches of water. Great fun.

I have a video of a guy footin behind a drag boat. The driver said he tries to rip the handles out of doo's hands. Insane.
That jet drive is pulling the water into the bottom of the boat with so much force that it sucks the boat down into the water and plants it just like downforce would on a car. This allows them to corner as if they're breaking the laws of physics. Pretty dang awesome.

My dad took me to one of these events in a small rural town when i was little. All I remember is one of the boats nearly landing in the car park.

Sorry bro, while the USA and Aussies have adopted jet sprinting it is kiwi as. The Jet boat was invented here and so was jetsprinting, the latest craze, mini jet boats that go in almost no water was also started here and the above video is at Bay View in Tauranga .

I went travelling in New Zealand, and there are places you could actually ride in one of these things as the passanger. Absolutely nuts. The acceleration and cornering G's are breathtaking. The driver(? pilot? captain?) told me they accelerate 0-60 faster than a Porsche. And the noise? It reaches deep down into your hind brain, and stamps a really stupid grin on your face. The only thing I did on that trip that overloaded my brain more was my first (non-tandem) jump out of a plane.

@@produKtNZ No. That's a tourist ride for people with weak hearts. I'm talking the same size two seater with a howling v8 butted up to the back of your seat like in the above video. And the course was _really_ narrow and twisty like above too. I suspect the professional pilot was not giving it the full beans, but it was still breathtaking for someone who has never experienced it before. It was near 20 years ago now, and I have no idea if they are still operating and couldn't tell you the name of the company to save my life. They may have changed name, or gone out of business by now for all I know. I see some companies offering jetsprint rides today, but they look to have much wider (i.e. safer) courses than I remember, and some are even four seater. In other words, they are much tamer.
Didn't know Jetsprint races existed until I played it on the Crew 2. I thought they made it up for the game.

I think what scares me the most is how fast these guys come to a stop when they crash. That's a lot of G-force/whiplash. I gotta neck ache just watching this lol

The boat's "jet" impeller drive was invented in New Zealand in the 1950's. Racing them was a sure thing as soon as there was two of them! The engines and impellers have ceratinly improved over the years, but it all started in NZ :)
