How many of you could say for sure which is the world’s fastest boat? Making a very fast boat is arguably even harder than making a fast car; you have the water and weather to worry about, and all the technology required to increase speed while keeping the ship afloat. The people who make them should get more recognition! Here are the fastest boats in the world!

I was disappointed that most of these speeds were done in lakes. I suppose dead water is the only water you could do those. Still would've been great to know the fastest and had the least structural damage on moving water (decent size waves) Im wasnt interested in skipping boats. Thats like saying a shuttlecar (which can go to 1000mph) and you cant drive them on the road or even street legal. It think 80 mph is the fastest one you could go when it comes to non oceanic waters.

i met ken warby at an event, i had a chance to ask him what its like at over 300 mph on the water. He said (with his ozzy accent) "ah, its just a boat ride" what a legend

I had the pleasure of interviewing ken Warby in 2005 for radio - a nice guy with a sense of humour. He is determined to do this in AUSTRALIA - a very patriotic guy, shame very few business's have the same loyalty and back him. His son now is the driver of the new world record attempt effort. David has raced old style hydroplanes for some years.

I never thought that record would still be standing over 40 years after i saw this boat in practice runs, holy crap, it was the loudest thing id ever heard back then. That boat, screaming down the dam at over 300 mph, was a sight to see, couple hundred feet long rooster tail flying off the back, Weren't many 15 year old boys got to see that. my year ten class on interstate tour were the only ones i know of.(pity our school tour bus was broken down on the opposite side of the dam ) . Would have loved to have a closer look .
The jet engine used in the Spirit of Australia was built in the 1940’s. Hence why he managed to get it so cheap. A power craft record from 1978 still stands now, amazing.
I grew up watching the drag boat races at home in Augusta Georgia on the Savannah River. There is nothing like a top fueler screaming down the river going 250 mph. The thunder you feel in your chest is unreal there is nothing like it!

I was at the Ozark shootout when the Quatar beat the record, that was the same day that another boat driver and his co-pilot died because the boat caught air and flipped, very sad but very exciting day for me I was about 8 years old.

I come from Taree and I’ve seen the new boat run on the water a couple of times
Only one died and that was three days later from complications in surgery. Owner and driver of the boat was fine and is still a customer to this day. Owner of the company was throttle man and many more details you don’t know. Don’t post what you don’t know

5:55 The record at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is unlikely to be broken anytime soon because they shortend the course to reduce terminal speeds following the blow-over death of Outerlimits owner Mike Fiore (sp?) and his co-driver. The Spirit of Qatar, same as the turbine Miss Gieco, is a Mystic hull and also raced (poorly) a few times against the Murcury powered version of Miss Gieco, CMS, and a few others. (Some of the Miss Gieco footage used here is the Mercury powered hull with 4 exhaust pipes sticking up out of the rear decks.) On a side note... LOTO is also home to Bob Bull's CMS Racing's 48 and 52ft Marine Technology Inc (MTI) cats powered by twin 1650hp Mercury racing 9.2L V8's. Bob also has a 3rd open cockpit cat. All are orange and silver. The CMS teams have pretty much spanked Gieco lately. Gieco also had a pretty nasty crash with another boat a few years ago.
Watched the whole thing before reading the comments wondering if top fuel boats would be on the list. You did not disappoint, fantastic video!
244mph? Wow.. Faster then a car! Let alone the faster one. This is amazing!
It's also worth noting that top fuel hydros can reach 250+ mph in about 4 seconds and 1000 ft, at least when they don't blow the tail.
"Spirit of Texas" surpassed "Problem Child" in top fuel hydro in 2015 with a 274.9 mph pass!

Spirit of AUSTRALIA 2 will be racing to break the record again as soon as this Covid-19 crisis is over !!! Kens son will be doing the honours here in Australia on Blowering Dam. I saw Sir Donald Campbells Bluebird CN7 land speed car here in Australia back in the 60s after he broke the then record .
I grew up in Bradenton Florida in the ‘80s and we had some crazy fast boats. It is the home of Chriscraft, wellcraft, talon, & a lot of other boat builders.
Miss Budweiser set more records then all these slow boat put together!! Kidding. We set a lot of records. Crazy to see the speeds I recent years. .

Nice. I had a little hydrofoil when I was 12. It was really light weight , made of plywood. I put my evinrude 6.5 h.p. engine , and did around 35 or so. Later , against my better judgement , I let my neighbor take it out with an 18 horse outboard. He spooled it up to somewhere around 50 m.p.h. before he hit a wave and executed a perfect 360. Good times...
I lent my copy of Ninja Gaiden II to one of my neighbors, who then proceeded to move away from town the next day. Good times.

The story behind the man at 12.01 reads like pure fantasy, almost single-handed he built that boat in his back yard in Sydney on a shoestring budget. Paid $79.00 for an obsolete J49 Westinghouse engine and set the World water speed record in 1977 and again in 78 and has held it ever since.
Me and my brother put a 25 hp Johnson on a 12 foot john boat when we where kids..It made time travel possible.

Should have mentioned Unlimited Hydroplanes. The turbine version of Miss Budweiser hit 220 for the kilometer UH record. The old Merlin, Allison or Griffon engined boats were capable of 170 in the straights. A couple of years ago a team ran a turbocharged Allison against the turbine boats with some good results.
April 17, 1962, Roy Duby drove Miss US Unlimited Hydro on Guntersville Lake in Alabama to a mile-straightaway speed of 200.42 mph, a world record for a piston-powered, propeller-driven craft that still stands today. (missus1.com/)

IMO they ruined Unlimited racing with the turbines. There was nothing like the "Thunder Boats" running those finicky 12-cylinder engines!

There's a slight error, LM2500 doesn't make 59000hp a piece. Depending on version, but two combined can do the 59000hp mentioned here. The newest version LM2500+ is advertised to make ~30MW, which would be abouts 40000 in horsepower.

there is a donald cambell memorial at dumbleyung lake were he once beat the world record my grandad was there when he was trying to beat the record there is also a to scale replica of the bluebird in the town of dumbleyung

H1 Unlimited hydroplanes are the fastest circuit racing boats in the world. That is not from me but is from the H1 Unlimited channel on KZhead. Wish this 12 minute video would have included the unlimited hydroplanes that fly across the water at over 200 mph.

USS New Jersey is worth a mention, she had a top speed of 35.2 knots which doesn’t sound like much but considering she is a 60000ton monstrosity it’s pretty amazing,she had more than 200000hp and was faster than most modern yachts and warships.at that speed,she could probably create a wake like rouge wave

Nope, its 5000 Hp in that thing, but even with 5000hp, its impressive they made a yacht that big go 70 knots... Some can only go 30knots at max, norm is around 25 knots...

@@blewyd because my dad is the captain of a 54ft Bertram that has 2 900 hp diesel engines and it doesnt go anywhere near 70 knots. Even with 5000 hp that is really impressive for that size yacht
So...the moral of the story is the UAE can spend millions, using tons of corporate engineers to build a really fast boat. Though... one man who's bored and determined can smash them, not American, but what freedom is all about!

You wanna see the fastest boat in history? Simple, in Crew 2, just climb to 15,000 ft. And switch to your favorite boat mid air, and watch your speedometer go crazy.
Nar mate terminal velocity free falling is about 200kph, Warbys record is over 510kph
In the crew 2, my record is about 420 mph.
I did TIG welding on Donald Campbell's boat Bluebird in Yorkshire...welded the cockpit frame back to the main hull frame....
My little semi skiff hits 30-40 mph and it feels like am going 200 on my bike.

I took two solid rocket boosters from NASA and connected them to my Yamaha Waverunner. I hit a top speed of 1364 mph. It was fun.

Back in the late 80's, I got to go for a few hours of fun in my salesmans buddies 1987 Wellcraft Nova 3 doing 80+ mph @ 5000ft elevation. That said...these listings here are old, outdated or inaccurate.

The Miss Geico is a little bit outdated. Miss Geico '06 already achieved 210+mph.
After the 1st world record 1977 he got help from the Air Force to rebuild the engine so it did not need to use a afterburner for the 2nd world record in 1978 so not totaly build by him self but a impressive record. Think it is hes son who gona drive the Spirit of Australia II if i remember it right.
I'm happy that military craft don't really don't ever post their actual maximum speed.

I doubt ANY record will stand forever, and certainly NOT top sailing speed. That PROA was damned impressive though....what amazed me even more than the speed was the acceleration during that run. It got from much less than that speed to that speed in a very short time. There is some video of it on YT.

16 foot alumacraft vee hull with a 1958 Mercury 6 cylinder 90 horsepower outboard , yeah the ones with no neutral gear , it cranks in either reverse or forward , running so fast that nothing's in the water but a couple feet of transom and the prop , that's not too shabby there ! Yeah that was my boat !!

Please take note that the course that spirit of Qutar went 244mph on was only a mile long and it was a rolling start of 60mph.
They also had a premature parachute deployment on their initial run that could have been disastrous. I was at that shootout.
