Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" | Official Teaser | 20th Century Studios
Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works). Moreno - one of only three artists to be honored with Academy®, Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Tony® and Peabody Awards - also serves as one of the film’s executive producers.
Bringing together the best of both Broadway and Hollywood, the film’s creative team includes Kushner, who also serves as an executive producer; Tony Award® winner Justin Peck, who choreographed the musical numbers in the film; renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and GRAMMY Award® winner Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of the iconic score; Academy Award®-nominated composer and conductor David Newman (“Anastasia”), who arranged the score; Tony Award®-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (“Fun Home,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie”), who supervised the cast on vocals; and Grammy®-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Chicago”), who served as executive music producer for the film. The film is produced by Spielberg, Academy Award®-nominated producer Kristie Macosko Krieger and Tony Award®-winning producer Kevin McCollum. “West Side Story” has been adapted for the screen from the original 1957 Broadway show, with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and concept, direction and choreography by Jerome Robbins.
From 20th Century Studios, The Walt Disney Company will release “West Side Story” in U.S. theaters on December 10, 2021.

This is absolutely unreal. The gratification from something fulfilling every single fiber of an expectation and looking like an actual best case scenario is so rare. This is stunning... from the look of the cast to the vibe of the world and most notably; to the incredible love note to the legacy of West Side Story that is every choice in this trailer. Go Rachel! What is their left for you to do?” Spielberg: “Well I always wanted to do a musical”
He shoulda done a musical a long time ago. I'd actually prefer he do an original one, not remake one that almost can't be improved upon, but this does look great. And it will at least have a cast of real Latinx performers. I'd also like him to try a full-blown horror movie. He arguably hasn't done any besides "Jaws," which is still his best movie, in my opinion.

I believe that Spielberg has said that this was for him a passion project...and boy, can you tell. He has had this passion project of his in his head for nearly 65 years now, as told by Vanity Fair in the article: As a boy in Phoenix in the late 1950s, he had only the soundtrack, and he tried to picture the action and dancing that might accompany it. “My mom was a classical pianist,” says the filmmaker. “Our entire home was festooned with classical musical albums, and I grew up surrounded by classical music. West Side Story was actually the first piece of popular music our family ever allowed into the home. I absconded with it-this was the cast album from the 1957 Broadway musical-and just fell completely in love with it as a kid. West Side Story has been that one haunting temptation that I have finally given in to.” The teaser is hauntingly beautiful and evocative of the setting.

@@crystalenergy7904 Get over it. If he committed a crime, then he should go to jail and if he's not in jail then he has a right to keep working. Smh
@@richierich7229 Do u know how many people actually end up going to jail for sexual assault compared to the amount of police reports filed or are you joking? Ill give you a hint: Its a low number!! also using your private account to hook up with gullible and inexperienced teen girls as an adult famous actor is creepy and wrong. Please tell me you arent defending someone who allegedly told a 15 year old not to tell her parents he was contacting her??
I saw it when it was first released in 1961, and I was 15 years old, and said to myself then: "This can never be duplicated in all of its purity and glory...and find out, 59 years later, I was right!!!
I agree.
Lucky for you then he isnt remaking the movie but basing it of the play
@@cgt9056 The Original movie was based off the Play? So what's the difference?
I love the original so much, but since Steven Spielberg is doing this one, I have hope!!
Now the world will know of the magic that is Mike Faist
Yep, he's gonna steal the movie.
They already did, through "Newsies" and "Dear Evan Hansen" on Broadway.
@@MaxHechtman I’m talking the wider movie going audience that don’t go to Broadway And he wasn’t much more than an ensemble member in Newsies, I’m guessing a lot of viewers didn’t really notice him there
I felt like I didn’t breathe through the whole trailer ❤️
Covid?
First time at the movie theater yesterday since the pandemic hit the U.S. in March 2020. On the “big screen” was a preview of the new West Side Story coming in December 2021. I new within the first second what the preview was. The most iconic movie musical in the world. Rita Moreno, the unbelievable legend and 1962 Academy Award winner for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (West Side Story, 1961) appears in the Steven Spielberg production. The 1957 Broadway Musical (and movie) was scored by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim along with choreography by the incredible Jerome Robbins - this musical changed the Broadway Musical forever! The dance sequences, the music, the songs have left me spell-bound for as long as I can remember. Simply can’t wait to see how this new version will change how we think and live in a post-pandemic world. Simply can’t wait!
Just seen this and absolutely loved it! Amazing dancing and singing.
Saw it last night. I concur. Fantastic in every way
Steven BETTER not mess up this movie classic!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
well its Steven Spielberg has he ever steered us wrong?
