the reason you think this is so different from what you've heard is because we have always recommended you vocal heavy or like, rnb, jazz songs that we thought you would enjoy more. bts are actually a very hip hop based group, their earlier music especially is much heavier on the rap side but they have always kept that spirit, even up until this day in certain songs... you just haven't dug into them yet. and the rapline are absolute geniuses with those tracks when it comes to lyricism and flow.

And you should try also their song Daeng, an unofficial song by RM, Suga and J-Hope. Enjoy 😉

Originally Mic Drop is part of their Love Yourself:her album, is does sound different and there is not as much english in the lyrics. Anyway, cannot wait for You guys to react to their older music from 2013/14, it's an amazing fusion between hip hop and rnb and much more. I absolutly adore your reactions, much love!

@@AndrewBergSax I would recommend “Tomorrow” which is one of their earlier singles, written and produced mainly by Suga, performed by all 7. Deep lyrics, great choreo, and sick beat! Not from their first album, it’s from their 2nd EP Skool Luv Affair, still within the first year of their career. It was also in the top 5 of a “fan favourite songs” poll a year or two ago.
- Fun fact: When Suga drops the mic live it's an extra fake mic and Jin taps his mic for the sound. 🤭 - This is from the famously fandom-nicknamed "Dior performance". Their outfits were specially created for each of them for this tour by one of Dior's youngest, hippest designers, Kim Jones who really likes them. - I can't wait for you to dive further into the rap line... Mic Drop is sort of the 5th Cypher which is why they say "the last farewell". They were just done with addressing the haters. 😏😎 - The Dior Performance of Outro: Tear is a rap line must. The song is from when they thought about disbanding and their emotions really show. 💔

The thing that surprised me the most since I started watching BTS Concerts was J Hope's stage presence. They are all amazing but Hobi on stage is something special. Happy birthday HOBI. 💜

Honestly it’s the tiny body rolls for me. Please do this reaction with your wife. I can hear the squeals from here. There is also dream on, based on their song 00:00 o clock. They released it at a specific time so that when you see the clock in the video turn 00:00 it turned midnight on your clock. They are…. Spectacular.

for context, that "if you're jealous, file a lawsuit" lyric is kinda based on real life because bts had to go to court over some plagiarism accusations in their earlier days... people in the industry/agencies were THAT scared of them... and i'm not saying that was their intention with the lyric, just that it matches reality :)

OMG! This is such a throwback for me. 'Mic Drop' was the first mv/song I ever saw of BTS and I was hooked from the starts. That was almost 2 years ago. I didn't know anything about them and could not tell apart. I'm horrible with faces so it took me a long time. Mic drop has 3 dance breaks and I wish they would’ve performed it at the ptd concert when I was there (I went day 1 and 4). Honestly Mic Drop is such a statement. Bear in mind this came out in 2017 when BTS were still facing a lot of heat in Korea and hate. It wasn't until 2018 that they hit the superstar status which made it a bit harder to snub BTS. But 2017 was still alot of hate so this was a beautiful song for us and them. Very therepeutic and its still a bop! I loved both of your reactions to this masterpiece!! Caitlin picking up on the class references and your accent analysis was amazing! CFA

Mic Drop wasn't the first BTS mv I ever saw (it was Dope and I had it on my playlist for a YEAR until I actually became a fan literally WHAT was I doing), but when I saw it I was so blown away and in love it made me want to look into them. Shout out to Thanksgiving of 2017, the weekend when BTS broke down my front door and made me fall in love with them lol

The Mic Drop MV is the very first one I watched of them, and they just hooked me in in a split second. I remember seeing who I didn’t know at the time was Hobi, and thinking “he’s so cool!”. This just brings me back to those moments🥺😍 Mic Drop is still a masterpiece!
fun fact about BTS’ “diss tracks”: they actually never name anyone! it’s always more of a “if the shoe fits…” kind of vibe and it’s always very entertaining watching BTS-antis go absolutely mad on twitter because they think BTS are attacking their faves when they aren’t mentioned at all lol also if you would like another “diss track” that is only by the rapline member, i would really recommend “ddaeng” and the explanation video by dkdktv! the song is free on Soundcloud and BTS released it in 2018 during their Festa (kind of a 2-week celebration before their group anniversary on june 13). The performance is amazing and the wordplays are genius. thanks for the reaction 💜

My absolute favorite live performance of this song is from the 2017 MAMAs. They did Cypher 4 and Mic Drop back to back, and it was amazing watching them do diss tracks in front of the rest of the industry at an award show

Love seeing you both together. The song being inspired by Obama’s famous mic drop always makes me giggle because yes this is very much the haters can be mad we are just going to collect trophies and keep winning no time to even notice the haters. I love their subtle digs like Ratatouille they don’t need to be vulgar yo insult you. Full swag but not overly negative. Their foundation is rap and hip hop so the top songs and vocal songs don’t highlight this but yes lots of their catalog especially older songs are high energy hip hop. Of course live is another level. All of them in the custom Dior is a lot for me visually, big yes for JHope in particular. FYI Steve Aoki wrote a vocal ballad for BTS, one of the best vocal line unit songs as good or better than House of Cards, The Truth Untold. Caitlin might really appreciate the mythology they built in the story telling with the lyrics. Yay fan art of the week. Have a great week both of you!

this reaction is another precious one. caitlin made me feel like it was my first time watching it again. and yeah, as nice other armys pointed out in the comments: mic drop is a bop, and hobi (our february 18th birthday boy) performing it is something else.
Mic Drop was a nice nod back to their 2013-2014 discography that was hard-hitting, hiphop based that was mostly rapline-led. Speaking of clapback songs, it would be amazing if you could one day go through the rapline cyphers. There are 4 of them from O!RUL8,2?, Skool Luv Affair, Dark & Wild, and Wings; and the worldplay and flow is just out of this world.

I love this song ! It was really playful and fun.. the rappers have the CYPHERS 1,2,3 and DDAENG as clapback to haters also and that was more heavy and suga had AGUST D and JOKE from RM. . They have song titled SILVER SPOON or BAEPSAE too ..about how they were this crowtits/underdogs who try to catch up with the storks..It was very artistically written with a lot of metaphors which was explained by a korean in DKDKTV 😊💜 I love watching your reactions to this esp since you watched the bts hardships before.. It feels satisfying 😁 💜
It's so refreshing to see u enjoy a hip hop song. This was an iconic song. Everyone was hating on them for getting nominated for billboard social artist and then winning the award. This was a perfect reply to the haters. They performed this in a Korean music award show right after they came back from US after winning billboard award. Can't wait to see which song u select next. Maybe something from their older album.
fun fact. theres a compilation out there of Jin producing the sound of the mic drop for Yoongi. He would switch out mics so he's not dropping his actual good mic, i assume. I also assume it would be turned off. Possibly a turned on mic wouldn't create the sound they wanted reliably? Im not sure. So Jin will watch for him dropping the mic and will bop his own mic to make the sound :)
yup, i think one of the dancers brings him the prop mic. Regularly dropping one of their real custom made mics would not be ideal 😬
RM was inspired by Obama’s mic drop in April 2016. So the team wrote this and then later Steve Aoki came and they remixed it 💜💜💜

I normally recommend Mic Drop to anybody to show BTS as a first look because it shows a bit of everything.
Mic Drop was my first introduction to BTS. It holds a special place in my heart. The dance break at the end can be seen in full in the Dance Practice of the original song. I'm so pleased that it featured in the version that you watched live. You can see the hard work put in by the boys to perform it. It's amazing.

Mic drop was my first comeback as ARMY. I remember sneaking to stream the MV for the 24h KZhead views while my family were sleeping. I just love this MV and the nostalgia..
There are live performances with 3(!) dance breaks 😎 so epic!
As with BTS, there are so many versions of 'Mic Drop' - the original, the Steve Aoki Remix, the performance versions (Korean, Japanese, Steve Aoki Remix), end-of-year stage and concert versions with the dance break and an inadvertent performance that should have had the dance break but for some reason the music didn't include that part (oops). When BTS were invited to perform on Saturday Night Live in April 2019, they debuted 'Boy With Luv' from Map of the Soul: Persona; their second song was 'Mic Drop', which is from an earlier release, Love Yourself: Her (2017). BTS blew up on social media in the U.S. after that and they really took off in the states. [Caveat: They were already popular with 'DNA' and 'Fake Love' but that SNL performance was crazy.]

P.S. BTS was originally a Hip hop centric group. Even JK was rapping on a couple songs. But they are always trying new styls of music & looks. SUGA said recently that some of their coming music will be going back to their Hip Hop roots. I'm excited!! I really want to watch you check out "Ugh" & "Ddaeng" WITH the explination videos, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE EXPLINATION VIDEOS. Your minds will be blown about the wordplay. Double & triple entendres. So you decided to go with this one its a good choice and this song is one of the only bts songs i know of by heart in korean and english that i can sing along to also I am in love with the style especially Hobi's in this MV as he was the one that got me into wearing bucket hats
What amazes me most about the rapline is how well they can fit rap into songs you wouldn't think would have rap in it at all, I'd love to see other rappers try to make rap verses for some of the non hip hoppy songs rapline are in because it wouldn't be easy

Hahaha I have had a lot of practice snapping while teaching. When I don't have a metronome present (or don't want to use one for one reason or another) snapping is really helpful. Also it's a less annoying than clapping and you can usually hear it really clearly because it cuts through the sound... anyway it's fun 🤩

really cool reaction! i noticed that you said this is more different than other songs you have listened to, and i can agree and i think i know why, since your style is more of a jazz and musical kind of vibe, the recommendations you've been getting from your comments and videos are songs that are more musically and vocally driven! i notice that in other reaction channels for example, if their vibe is more on rap, rap driven or hip hop songs are usually recommended to them first! but nonetheless, its really fun seeing people react to the different and beautiful sides of BTS!

It's also a flex song by pointing out how many trophies they have because at this point they'd need a U-Haul to get them all. Just for an example, in Korea there are weekly music shows by various stations and the winner gets a trophy. Dynamite has 36 (I think) award show wins and that's without any promotion on their end. Fun fact: Mic Drop was inspired by President Obama's mic drop when he left office. =0] Never saw that live very cool. But I know about the dance break they added. There is a practice video for that. And they have performed this song with the new choreo for a while now. I saw another live with it. That’s such an interesting point you make about them ending the song on the bridge! I never thought about it like that. Clever! All of the members of BTS are so kind and they’re such good people, so I think some people get surprised (?) seeing this side of them, but I love seeing them clap back the way they do. They are clever, skillful, strong, and fair (IMO) in their responses to haters. I’m so so curious to see your reaction to their Cyphers (especially Pt. 2: Triptych), Baepsae, UGH!, and some of the rap line’s solo work and associated explain videos!
I’m sure you know that this song was inspired by President Obama dropping his mic at the end of one of the WH Correspondents Dinners. I think RM liked the idea for a song once there’s nothing more to say. You should watch the making of the MV for yourselves. The production crew planned the explosion behind the guys but they had to do one the day before so BTS would know what to expect and not get startled when they were dancing.
The video is so good! Look at it again& see Jimin & Jungkook fly away from Suga. When he is singing about Ratatouille. They are on harnesses! Its not CGI I love the Transition from J-hope & Sugas rap when they are back to back. So cool! RM's line "Baby watch your mouth, it comes back around!" That was so spot on. Btw, he initally got stuck in the ambulance that he burst out of on that part in the MV. "God of distruction " in effect. Theres footage of it. The other guys are cracking up! Lol The part about, no need to say anything more, don't apologize is toward "B-Free" the A Hole who called them girls & sellouts, apologized 6 years later (riiiight berfore "Mic Drop" came out in fact) because his "career" was ruined becaise of his disrespecting of BTS. WAY too late. And finally, that ending dancebreak during their live performances are just 😘👌 MIC DROP is DEFINITELY in my Top 10 BTS songs. Which is actually harder to make than people might think. I had always enjoyed Mic Drop, but I became ARMY in 2019 so I missed the context of the song. It wasn't until I watched Aneesa's series, The Rise of Bangtan, that I felt the catharsis that ARMY must have felt first hearing this when it dropped.

Yes, I've actually seen a lot of these! I've seen just the Music/Lyric videos for Persona, Shadow, Ego, Singularity, and Still With You. And I've seen the Lyric/Music videos and a live performance of Epiphany, First Love, Trivia Love, MAMA, Stigma, and Lie! So I'm slowly working through them all! And MMA and MAMA videos are on my list, once I've heard all the songs in them! 😀

This is so interesting to hear you say this is so new, but looking back you have been reccomended very vocal heavy, jazz and mix r&b songs. Bangtan are originally a very Hip hop based band, especially their earlier works. Im sure there is a list below of songs and performances for you to react too. Also: When Sugar drops the "Fake Mic" Jin is the one who makes the sound of the mic hitting the ground. 👀
