LIVE | British GT - Silverstone 500 - R2

The longest and most prestigious event on the Intelligent Money British GT Championship calendar takes place this Sunday when a 31-strong entry arrives at Silverstone for three hours of racing.
No pit windows and three driver changes - that’s two more than usual - also leave room for strategy to play a decisive role in the Silverstone 500, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. That extra element might explain why six different manufacturers and seven teams have won the race outright over the last decade, and why no driver has claimed more than one victory in the event’s history.
Exactly the same stats apply to GT4 despite Century and BMW winning two of the last three 500s. But Success Penalties for both of its M4s provide an opportunity for another combination to join Silverstone’s roll of honour.
Buy British GT merchandise at britishgt.com/shop.
And don’t forget that all support series races are streamed exclusively on britishgt.com/live throughout Sunday.

    • GT racing sounds better , looks better , is cheaper to watch both live and in person. The racing is still great with lots of drama. GT racing isnt as fast however and theres less social media attentiob around it. The best GT series is gt world challenge europe. NLS in Germany and GT open are both very good. British GT is the best GT racing in the UK and has some of thr best GT racers in europe! Id try and get along to an event , youll love it!

    • I highly suggest you try going to a race, as the other guy said, it's much cheaper, they sound great (and feels great when they whiz by you!) and the environment is amazing. You often get to see the cars very close up and sometimes even get in (if you hang around long enough) On the off chance you're in America, check out IMSA or GT World Challenge America and see what's closest to you.

  • Note to directors of motor racing TV coverage (all of them) : PLEASE stop cutting away from vital overtakeing moves while they are still in progress just to show people in the pit garage. You miss the best bits of the action and it happens so often now it's almost a cliche. Don't do it! Please? Just stick with the cars on track at such moments. That's what we want to see. Shots of people gawping at monitors are not "human interest" they are just frustrating.

  • Steller motorsport's strategy game was absolutely epic. And in general the strategy battle was thrilling, even if it was highly artificial cuz of the three mandatory stops. Have to say though, some of these rules seem very stupid. First off, what the heck is the additional pit time for silver entries in GT4? Isn't it the point of having different classes that the differing performance levels of the entries are acknowledged, and that the classes are not competing against each other? The success penalty sucks too. BoP is a great thing but here they are just artificially trying to hamper specific cars just for having performed well. Dumb. 5-10 seconds would at least be reasonable but 20 secs is a literal eternity in racing. To cap it off, the Silver-Am class feels a bit pointless to me. And the race-by-race entries should matter for points as well. Preferably they would be able to score points but if not that, at least they shouldn't be ignored when giving points to full-time entries. So that Balon and Mitchell wouldn't have gotten first-place points in this race but second-place points instead.

    @theflagstand@theflagstand2 жыл бұрын
    • 1. To avoid that "super-silver"-entries destroy the Am-drivers, while they´re driving. I honestly liked that in the GT3-class up until last year, with the all silver line-up first trying to clear the AM´s and build a gap and later fight the PRO´s for victory. They have a overall championship, as well for each class. 2. It´s a common gimmick in national GT-series. Here in Germany not different. The times are over, where you build the fastest car, and easily won with it the whole season. It spices up the challenge for a team, if they have "better" AM-drivers or are a class-team in general (like WRT in GT World Challenge). 3. Yeah, see point 1. I don´t know the real reason, but they don´t want it anymore, so they removed the all-silver-linups. To have a silver driver in your team makes no sense, if you go for overall victory. I really miss the RJN-Mclaren from last year with J. Baldwin and M. O´Brien

      @stefanwehofsky@stefanwehofsky2 жыл бұрын
    • @@stefanwehofsky 1. Isn't the point of having different classes that the silvers can destroy the Am drivers as much as they like? And I kinda liked the balancing in GT3 as well, but I guess the only balancing measure I ever heard of was adding a bit of weight into the silver class cars, which I think was reasonable. 2. It's a gimmick, I hate gimmicks. And it literally penalises you for being good. And there have been occasions in other series that use success penalties where a success penalty has ruined an exciting lead battle and allowed somebody to easily cruise home with a massive gap. And again, a few extra seconds in pits wouldn't be that bad but 20 seconds is way too much IMO. They're not building cars, they're racing BoPed cars that should be pretty equal. IMO there's no clearly dominant entry this year and I feel there has always been enough variation without success penalties. Anyway I'd rather watch somebody win all the races than have manufactured variety.

      @theflagstand@theflagstand2 жыл бұрын
    • @@theflagstand You could be right. Maybe I was mistaken the success pit-penalty with the weight... I can't say that I like the success penaltys in any ways, either. DTM had huge discussions about them a few years ago, until they removed them. In GT or semi-Pro series I accept them. I don't think, that these penaltys are too unfair. And it's the same for everybody. The Silverstone race showed us, that you can get a decent result, despite all that. After all, the quality of racing and the championship speaks for itself. I think the BTCC has also some kind of success penalty sytem? They may be common in national series, today.

  • GT is officially ruined. Obviously the same backhanders going on here as in F1. I was at Silverstone and Donnington this year, having been unable to visit either in the past when the GT was on, due to work commitments. As an ex racer, aero-dynamicist and physicist, there is no way something with the aerodynamics of a brick and the mass of a small elephant, should be able to pull out such a convincing lead on more sleek, light and powerful rivals. The balance of performance regulations have CLEARLY favoured Mercedes at both races. Nothing short of corruption. McLaren and Lamborghini should have dominated, but weren't allowed to. Simple.
