These fish have a very high metabolic rate and when you catch them they are often exhausted when you finally get them to the surface. A build up of lactic acid during this time can spoil the quality of the meat if you bring your tuna aboard immediately and start bleeding it etc. For this reason, most of the higher quality commercial tuna fishermen will tie a rope around the tail and anchor this rope to the boat whilst also re-hooking the tuna in the mouth. Commercial fishermen tend to slide the arteries located just behind the pectoral fins and place the fish back into the water to bleed out over the next 10-15 minutes. This also helps cool the tuna while helping oxygenate the fish and preventing the issue mentioned above from occurring.

that is the best way, there's a large artery/vein up in the throat area. tuna have a large amount of blood, so nicking them in the blood line will bleed a lot, but the gill bleeds even faster, meaning quicker death for the fish too

That's not a good way to kill your fish. I've been fishing a lot in my life with my uncle. He always told me to kill the brain first. Stress has proven to reduce meat quality and yes; even in fish. If it's death is stressfull, it'll have an impact. It's also pain that can be avoided. Other than that, nice bleeding mate. Hope you enjoyed the fish. 👍

A build up of lactic acid during this time can spoil the quality of the meat if you bring your tuna aboard immediately and start bleeding it etc. For this reason, most of the higher quality commercial tuna fishermen will tie a rope around the tail and anchor this rope to the boat whilst also re-hooking the tuna in the mouth. Commercial fishermen tend to slide the arteries located just behind the pectoral fins and place the fish back into the water to bleed out over the next 10-15 minutes. This also helps cool the tuna while helping oxygenate the fish and preventing the issue mentioned above from occurring.

Based on the anatomy and physiology of the human body, we are 100% fruitarians with vegetables, nuts and seeds being a compliment to our diet. That's it. That's all our bodies are designed to naturally ingest and that's all that our bodies recognize as "food". Everything else we eat will cause havoc in our bodies, in one way or another, sooner or later, at a cellular level.
Ive seen people kill the fish THEN immediately bleed it. I don't know if it has to alive to make it work better for this fish but otherwise it's nicer to spike it or otherwise put it out of its misery before let it bleed out. If there is no big impact to the meat when you kill it then instantly bleed then this would just be unnecessary suffering.

90% folks here never fish a tuna. This fish will bl33d a lot no matter what method is use. The one here is when you cut the pectoral fin or you can do it with the gills. This is how your favorite sushi are prepared so the meat aint fishy and last longer similiar to ikejime.

Hi guys I don’t want to be that guy but I just wanted to clear up that when tunas stop swimming they die immediately so this fish wasn’t alive while it was being bled also the moving you see in this is a spinal reflex which happens after death

That's not a good way to kill your fish. I've been fishing a lot in my life with my uncle. He always told me to kill the brain first. Stress has proven to reduce meat quality and yes; even in fish. If it's death is stressfull, it'll have an impact. It's also pain that can be avoided. Other than that, nice bleeding mate. Hope you enjoyed the fish. 👍
