Today Linus is rolling dice to decide what does into a computer.. but there is a twist. Whatever computer he rolls must be sold for $1. Best case for Linus the computer will be $373, worst case it will be $16,795.

  • I originally had no intention of watching the whole damn thing, but it was surprisingly good. I liked the rando premise, which is actually pretty relevant for those of us on old/budget/secondhand/donated hardware. Alex was a good wingman, and a shout-out to Anthony who was trying to avoid the cameras, but failed. 😁 I love the idea of "LTTNotCom"; I'm nowhere near BC, but somehow it seems to round out the LTT Death Star you've been building (as well as dispose of all the reviewed stuff you're drowning in). It's like a Lego Store -- you might not have one, but the world is better for having it. Still don't know how to apply to purchase the frankenPC (I'm not on social media so I probably won't find out soon enough to participate), but great fun nonetheless. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

  • @linus I'm about an hour and a half in, and you're talking about 6 conductors on 1 harness connector and the other kind having 3hot and 5gnd... So I'm not familiar with the specific product, but I think I can help with the reason (without math). 1st: electricity actually flows from gnd to pos.. it works either way u draw it out, but bare that in mind (we call earth "ground", but in reality, the atmosphere is negative and earth is positive). 2nd: the loads of a circuit take the push of the line (power feed) down. 3rd: the push (pressure... Voltage) measured after the load, subtracted from before the load, is called "forward voltage"... My point is; Because electrons flow from gnd to pos in vDC, there is higher voltage, higher amperage, and higher resistance.. hence the reason for more gnd wiring. I'd also imagine that AT LEAST 1 (maybe 2) of those gnds are shield gnd. Last nerdy thing... If the wire's sheathing (not the connector... I feel bad for people that have food theory and just can't get good product) is able to control the heat from the amp draw in each wire, then it's very likely that this "smaller wiring" may actually have finer strands within the conductor. Electrons travel on the outer edge of their conductors. The inner (core)of the conductor acts as more of a heat sink. If u use more strands in finer wire, the electrons have more surface to flow, heat escapes WAY TOO FAST, but can be controlled by say XLPE sheathing... A wire can melt and stay contained in the sheath, turning it into a larger solid core, instead of acting like a fuse. I think the issue of the company ur talking about, is SOLEY a pour choice in terminal pin style and size.. not the wiring

I remember covering it at Intel Conferences... common building blocks, the video's showing grade 1 and 2ers putting laptops together... and the branding of the three or four components needed for centrino... Ah the memories... And today you have to take the keyboard and entire top or bottom of the main deck off to upgrade ram or swap out a battery/hdd.

Economy Battery Life IT Gaming Programmer Server Data Center Low TDP Etc, And then do your marketing gimmicks per line?

The only limiting factor I've run into is with ram and the vram on my video card (which I may upgrade to buy some more time) I haven't built a new system because I haven't needed to, and I tend to build the highest end I can afford, then make it last forever before the next build (around 12 years on this one so far) Yes I'm hitting the time I need to do my next build, but with prices being what they are, I'll be saving for a while for top end.

    • Well, that's one way to look at it. I think it was a bit humiliating. Linus kinda made him look like a circus clown by doing hot sauce challeges on live stream for a damn monitor. An employee shouldn't earn stuff this way. It's degrading in my opinion. It would have been entertaining if Linus did it like he was supposed to, but he made an employee do it. It was hard to watch. That's my two cents on that.

    • Yeah, I looked at the stream replay for a bit and it kinda pisses me off how annoying people are screaming rigged and shit, either they think they're funny and they're not, or they are furious that no matter how this went down, someone was paying a dollar for an insane prize, he had a decent enough reason in wanting to make sure they didn't need it for some video later, it's not like he was just being "cheap", and he sounded like he'd rather give it away than subject anyone to the hotsauce in (questionably dangerous?) amounts.

    • @@KrufleXS First problem, the display that you listed is a 1080P display (1920x1080) which means it can't run at 4K. you can't upscale the native resolution of your monitor, you can buy a 4K display and choose for 1080P but it doesn't work the other way around. Second problem the CPU is a budget CPU which means it won't work very well for gaming at 4K, because it doesn't have good enough performance If you are set on using AMD you should get a Ryzen 9 7900x which confusingly is faster than the Ryzen 9 7950x. Third problem the GPU, A 3060 isn't going to provide enough power to be gaming at 4K I suggest instead getting a 4070 or 4070ti. The 4070/4070TI will provide good performance and it is an expensive card but, to game at 4K you need the best of the best and it is the choice that makes the most sense as of now. And for the fourth issue 16GB ram is enough for now but, in a couple of years games might require more RAM than that so I would go with 32GB RAM. You also state that you do want to be streaming so you will have to do video editing if you plan to upload it to YT making 32GB a way better choice for your scenario. For the PSU aka powersupply if you can make sure it's Platinum rated Gold is good but Platinum rated is a lot better. For the SSD instead I would go for the Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD as it is a lot better, the reason to go for 2TB is because it gives more storage and, it's cheaper to buy one 2TB SSD than it is to buy 2 1TB SSD's. The Motherboard you chose is good the case as well and I see no issue with the CPU cooler either. For 4K you would be looking at something like the LG 32UQ750-W.

    • @@leagueaddict8357 I cannot thank you enough for actually taking your time and helping me. thank you so much. so I can see that 4k is the main problem here. so if I say I'll do all of the mentioned things but in 1080p and never go higher than 2k. how would that be? and yes I'll upgrade 16gb to 32gb in soon future when it's needed.

      @KrufleXS@KrufleXS Жыл бұрын
    • @@KrufleXS A lot cheaper but, I would recommend going for QHD which is 2560x1440 for a really good gaming experience 144hz or higher is also recommended. If you go for 2560x1440 you can put in a 30's series GPU and it'll be a good experience (Like a 3060 ) as long as the CPU isn't bottlenecking it. I would avoid the 3060 3050 and 3060ti though a 3080/3080ti 3090 or 3090ti would be solid, the 3070ti would also be a good GPU to go for. I would say the Ryzen 7700 is a lot better than the 5600x but, if you can get a good deal on a Ryzen 9: 5900 / 5900x / 7900 or a 7900x that would be even better.

If you haven’t tried yet-try speaking into a red recording light and talking about something that you’re knowledgeable on, while also entertaining the audience to an extent that you feel confident releasing to millions of people. Then consider doing the entire thing live, in front of millions of people, knowing that there will be curveballs in your speech while simultaneously building with your hands. The most widely viewed television events would never allow for something like this.. and Linus and his team handle the broadcast better than pretty much most. Hats off to the production department You guys keep leveling up.

I got a vertical mouse and it helps if I move correctly, but it makes it worse during gaming because of wiggling while aiming. However, I have not been able to experiment with keyboards, especially since some are pretty expensive. Some of the ones I've looked at seem to be token nods at them, while others seem to be definite possibilities. Can you do a comparison of the various types, including vertical, cup and wave?
