  • Please, please contact someone like Hard4Games that can preserve the content of that hard drive. It might contain some unreleased stuff on it. It might be nothing but it also can be a gold mine

    • These are essentially just normal fat PS2's, but without any security checks. The PS2 HDD was only used to store game saves and Final Fantasy Online patches afaik

    • It's nothing special. Unless the console is modded, homebrews or other loaded games were added. Other than that, that Hard Drive was most likely used for FF.

      @JohnSmith-nj4zq@JohnSmith-nj4zq11 күн бұрын
  • The 40Gb HDD and network card used to be a package deal with Final Fantasy 11 online, since you needed that much storage space for all the updates and expansions the game would have. Plus as well as needing the network adapter to go online itself, since the ps2 didn't have it built in. You can notice that it has an ethernet connection on it, so you needed to have cable internet service to access the game. But then later, all the systems started to have it ethernet intergraded into the systems itself for online compatibility.

  • There are several types of disc you need to test. Blue(ps2), black(ps1), gold(ps2 &dvd), and CD. A faulty laser could read some types but not all.

    @VestigeIncarnate@VestigeIncarnate13 күн бұрын
    • I fixed over 100 of these. If it reads both ps1 and ps2 games, it'll read CDs and DVDs. Some PS2 games are blue, that just means they were small files and was burned to a CD instead of a DVD.

Unfortunately, the video finally went out on it and I didn't have someone awesome like TronicsFix nearby, so I gave it away to someone for parts last year. Man, Sony built things to last. I think I bought it back in 2001 making it 22 freaking years. That console lasted longer than most marriages.

  • You should use a silicone lubricant; Oil-based lubricates attract dirt and dust which sticks to the oil-based lubricant and turns it into sticky gum.

  • You could lube that white piece also where the two tabs slide in to lift the laser assy. And also the middle of the two white gears for turning smooth when under load. And if you're really going for it, a small drop of sewing machiene oil on the motor bearing. All helps agains friction for ejecting the tray. Best of luck Steve.

  • I have a 3001 model. It's one of the first ones. To change the battery, you have to desolder the 2 piece motherboard. The heat sink is a thick, solid piece of, I guess, aluminum. Revisions after are much easier to take apart.

  • 16:40 I don't think that's vape residue. It would literally be on every surface if that's what it was. And it's not that sticky. It should be water soluble so no it doesn't build up in your lungs like that. 😅 I kinda think it may be dielectric grease, but no idea why it would be in there. Maybe just some spillage of something.
