Have you ever wanted to turn your home console into a portable console? The PS2 was the home console that I always wanted to be portable... and the PSP almost fulfilled that dream. But what would be better than a PSP? An actual PS2 Portable console! And that's exactly what this portable console from Aliexpress is. This Portable PS2 from Aliexpress uses real PlayStation 2 hardware and... it's interesting. The one I bought had some issues, but the Portable PlayStation 2 from Aliexpress seems to work ok now - let me know down below what you think of this Portable PS2!

    • It was sloppy soldering. But Its tough cause there is a lot of custom PCBs that make ti all work and overall I think the design is solid. But It needs like a better QA cleanup. Its like they just kind of got to the finish line and sat down before crossing it on this one. The overall form factor and design and parts all seem good. But....why not finish it. Also I think they missed a trick not having the HDMI port accessible from the outside. I would almost get out a dremel a port and HDMI extension to give it dual function as a portable screen.

  • Fun fact: The joystick issue with NBA Street has been baffling me for years. On my first fat PS2, you could not move up and left at the same time using analog. Your player would stop in place. I changed controllers and got the same problem. On my slim PS2, oddly enough, the problem seemed gone. Last year, on my jailbroken PS3 with software emulation, the problem returned with a vengeance. I have no idea what is causing this, but it even reoccurred in the Xbox version of NBA Street 3. This is the first time I’ve ever seen another person say this out loud. Interesting!

  • Just so people are aware - if you’re getting a portable console like this commissioned by someone in the modding community, you’ll most likely be shelling out well over $1,000. A ton of time goes into making a custom portable. This one is cheaper because it seems that they have some sort of small assembly line for these lol. $450 is definitely reasonable (if it didn’t have the solder issue)

  • I remember watching another person review this same unit and it was even more a mess than pictured here. It isn't even that bad when comparing it to other homemade portable console mods but when you take something like this that takes a lot of hands on effort and try to sell it as a mass produced product you naturally get tons of quality control issues. There's a reason why people who make modded portable consoles rarely sell them and when they do they charge more than double than what this costs.

If not that would make certain games that benefit from or even require this feature, such as The Bouncer (and possibly some niche aspects of MGS 2 & 3) nigh on unplayable. Ive had a switch for about 3 years and have NEVER had a single issue with it, not one, and the screen and graphics are amazing for the $300 I paid, looks like a $1000 handheld system next to this thing. And the games are far better, run smoother, look 10x better, and 1/4 of the chunkiness. This thing looks like it came out in 2010 after the PS2 and we are doing an old review.
