    • That's true. Planes with 2 engines are designed and certified to fly on just one. Maybe not take off, but certainly long enough to get to an airport, even if the loss of 1 engine is over water.

  • What you may not know is that the descent from cruise altitude is normally made at or near idle power until the airplane needs to level off to meet a crossing altitude restriction or arrival in the terminal area.

  • Only time you really need to worry is if you're a long way over water. Extremely rough weather or RAT / APU start failure (which you might not know about, as the flight crew may not want to cause distress)

  • The aircraft will have a best glide speed which will mean it could go further than you managed, assuming in your video that you just 'let go' and didn't trim for that speed. Could probably glide quite a lot further than you managed. Less often published, but there will also be a minimum sink speed which will maximize the time in the air but will not allow you to glide as far over the ground

    • It’s happened. Air Canada 143 did it in 1983, the airplane ran out of fuel, all engines went out.

    • The engines play no part in maintaining cabin pressure. Usually located behind the R2 door is a pressure outflow valve, which the pressurization system can open and close in order to maintain proper cabin pressurization altitude. The engines do draw in air from the bypass, but this air is for the air conditioning system and any other system that needs bleed air.

  • 20 mins not factoring in winds, speed, actions required to turn, and most importantly weight. Good for fictional purposes though. In reality, the distance able to glide has so many more factors affecting it. I doubt an actual fully loaded plane could glide that long.
