I plan to build a milling machine before I have all the parts to build, I decided to build a cross table. I built a table with bearings and linear shafts so the whole thing works very lightly. Such a table does not have to be used only for a milling machine, but can also use a table drill, making drilling several holes much easier and more precise.
It's a treat to watch an experienced guy welding and manufacturing useful things. I live in VietNam where we have many self-taught craftsmen who are equally fascinating to watch performing magic with raw stock materials. When I want something from KZhead made, I take a sketch with dimensions then show them the video and they are away.
Yes he is clearly self-taught.
Hello friends. let us be grateful to our friend who posted this video sharing knowledge. It doesn't cost anything to like and make a simple comment. It is the least we can do in gratitude for his work. thank you!
Thank you :)
kzhead.info/sun/hMmop656nJyEfJE/bejne.html wonderful piece I hope you see it
welp.. it might not have great tolerances but it certainly better than the one i *don't* have. congratulations!
Indeed 😅👍
Tolerance based on application.
Agreed
Even if it's not the best, you can use that to mill a replacement with better tolerance. So not the best but you can make it better each time till is basicly pro grade
Excellent work there man, i liked the way you (diy) measurements there, mount, get reference then unmount. That was good.
That looks really good and well made! Hats of to you Sir!
Thank you :)
That is ridiculously next-level workmanship! I am absolutely gobsmacked! 😮
Holy mig weld Flatman, a very smooth grind to oblivion of work surface screws ups.
I like the way he has speeded up this video. And no talking, just doing. Watching Abom79 is like watching the paint dry.
Thank you :)
Yeh, but watching people like Abom, ToT, Fabrication guy, you get to know what to do, and what not to, what is right and wrong. They are like free teachers. And than you go to this channel and see easy way of what to build for yourself, while taking the knowledge from the other channes and than ur pro :P
I will personally do this in the incomming year, got already many ideas from youtube to build something cool
Oops subbed is good enough to me! If no comment no likes as see me. I got stalkers. Comes with being a staker killer! :) anyway I subbed to this smart guy doing really brilliant projects. I added more question. Could flick of swifch make full metal magnet? Or is a gap between the transformers needed? Still. No dislike.
Was fun to watch the craftmanship, even without any desire or the tools to do this project. Great video! Thanks
Amazing. My favorite part amidst super technical build was lugging 2 huge vices over to hold down project for welding.
Nice! I applaud the DIY construction of a complex machine part from scratch. Can you now test its accuracy and show us the results so we can see how well your cross table compares with similar sized commercial products?
"accuracy" from a manually polished part? Nice hobby toy but now way this is an accurate part to do anything remotely accurate, unless you rectify all surfaces on a proper machine
Thats some dang good welding. My condolences to the families of your drill's spindle bearings
Haha, it took ´till the end of the clip to get that one! =)
I remember this drill he used is actually a mill drill so theres a draw bar and bearings that can take side load he could have used that mill drill to mill yet he makes another compound table
What do you me.....OH GOD NO. ^Me while reading this comment then looking up to see the end.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos! I think we are very much alike in that we look at machines and know how they work, are ,made and can build them by just observing them first.
Thank you 😁 We are so similar 😁
Not only ingenious but virtually indestructible. Well done, sir.
Thank you 😁
Great work! I noticed how you broke out alot of the wonderful tools you've made in the past to create this one. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you 😁

I’ve been wanting to make one of these for ages , I need to get more steel, top work thank you
Thank you :)
Now armed with the knowledge that I don’t have to buy any of these mill tables that I’m constantly seeing advertised online, and that I can make mine to any dimensions that I might wish for, and even install a magnetic base on it, like your badass drill press base you have?! THANK YOU!! And by the way, those T-slots on the top surface are marvelous!!
Thank you for putting together this for all of us to be inspired by. Seeing the process of the build in full detail like this is something to marvel at and it doesn't get any better than this. Keep up the good work
Thank you :)

Can you help me please 🥺
Absolutely superb, i tend to work in wood but really appreciate your metal skills 👍
Your workmanship and skill is outstanding.
Just fascinating to watch even though I haven't any metal crafting equipment.
Piękna, czysta i dokładna robota. Super narzędzia 👍
Excelente trabalho, parabéns!
I am so glad that I ran up one your channel you have great ideas and builds I plan to try a few of your ideas!!!
It's wonderful to watch you work throughout a meticulously designed project.

I don't care how much a table like that costs in comparison with one directly from the manufacturer; that build was a lot of fun.

Very very nice: I love your work - I love your shop. Thank you for sharing this!
Excellent ! - Much better and nicer than the expensive cross tables you can buy online - Great video and fantastic workmanship ! 👍👍👍
Think you may need a drain hole in the bottom platon. Good looking build
My father tell me about buy one of this table. Now, I gonna built one together. Thank you for the amazing job!!!

Ficou ótimo parabéns. Vc é um excelente profissional.
Fantastic log splitter build. Amazing talent and skills.
nice work. as some have said, be careful with the lateral stresses of milling on a drill press.if anything else the capacity to rapidly locate drill positions is worth it enough to build one of these. thank you for making this video.
what can happen if you try to use a drill press as a mill
@@JoeSmith-jp7bk Drill presses are made to handle loads in the vertical axis only, any lateral loads will stress the head
@@PenumbralFigure therefore destroy bearings or in many cases, brass bushes.
The chuck can fall out of a drill press if using an end mill .
It’s easy to some why some things cost so much money. Your work is so much better in my opinion than any box store supplying factory.
Hi, you are a true genius, all your videos I just like that they are a little too fast ... Greeting 👍 ♥ ️🇮🇹🇩🇿
2020 piękne czasy kiedy stal kosztowała trójkę za tonę
No, to masz aktualizację :) prawie 8 zł za tonę :D
Try to buy a table the size you need, now I know what to do thanks , you got to make it priceless , well done may man well done, new zealand
Thank you :)
Thank you Sensei for the class.
I only follow Latin channels because i'am mexican but you are the exception, you are The Master. Congratulations.
Thank you :)
Świetna robota panie inspirujesz 😉
Has to be a fake video ... nobody has that clean of a shop! All kidding aside that is a really nice build and a pleasure to watch you build that.
Excelente, parabéns pelo seu conhecimento e capacidade.
Awesome work :) , i build a lot of tooling myself due to financial constraints due to my health but as time goes on sometimes its cheaper to buy once you consider materials/time/tooling required. That is all relative to where you live and what you have access too obviously. If you want to make something do it cause in the end you can't take money with you and learning is always going to cost
Looking forward to the milling machine build
It will take a while to build it, you need quite a lot of parts, but for sure when I have all the parts, I will build it :)
A parts list would be really helpful. Can you put one in the description? amazing video.
add a drip tip on the fluid nozzle out of the tips for a caulk gun easy to replace if it gets mangled and better placement to where the heat is
Great job! Best regards from Germany! Nico from Nico‘s Projects

Workmanship and editing both top quality.
Thank you :)
It needs a DRO now, that would make it a great drilling station.

Briiliant.. NEED to build one of these..any chance you can upload plans..
You have to respect Mr Distortion , good project
Easily one of my favorite videos yet! I had to subscribe, brother. Great work!
Thank you :)
Hi, you inspired me to make xy table for my project. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice project, enjoyed watching it come together. Thanks for the demonstration of skill...
This was so sick! Nice work
I just wish I had 10% of his skills! I am curious, what are you using for a coolant, it looks sort of watery milky white.
These are not skills but stubbornness in striving to achieve a goal, it can be classified as both advantages and disadvantages 😂 It is a machining coolant, it is bought as a concentrate and diluted with water, it is very economical and such a concentrate lasts a long time
Wow! That came out Beautiful!!! I Love it! I would buy this any day over the crappy Chinese built ones. You built that so Sturdy and Nice and it functions Beautifully! Incredible job my Friend. I Love your Work, Thank you so much for all your hard work Building, Editing and for Sharing your Amazingly Wonderful Creations! I Love your channel. Take care and God bless you and your Family.

Dziękuje 😁
OK, when the apocalypse comes you’re definitely on my team!
Ok 😂
Really impressive job !
Beautiful workmanship.
Did you do any investigation into the load capacity of those particular linear bearings ??? I can tell you for sure that a drill chuck is not made for the kind of lateral loading you have there. Maybe instead of burying the end mill if you nibbled with the spindle. You know 0.005" or 0.010" increments of linear motion then run the spindle down.
some drill presses use a threaded arbor, which would be fine for this (but the end mill in a Jacobs chuck is't the best move)
Same question came to my mind.. How rigid the round bars can be under load of lateral movement.
@@ibrhmctnr85 not very, this is just another one of those KZhead 'expert' budget build videos. As for OP's comment I think this channel already realised the tolerances suck after he goes to drill the first few holes you can see the entire vice flex, if he went to take a ten thou even twenty thou off the part would have just deflected of the end mill and given a horrible surface finish, or you would hear a tonne of chatter
Amazing construction for a very useful tool but let us know the estimate cost of the materials and how many time you spend to build it. I believe these information's help us for final decision. Thnx for your knowledge and time.
Worth to try this in my workshop.
Top Friend .. congratulations , greetings from Brazil.

Awesome build. Also, am I the only one who found it painful to see the welding parts?
Incredible piece of work..!!👌👌👌 Love from India..!!❤❤
Kawał dobrej i fachowej roboty, widać doświadczenie
@@_Shengur_ you're god damn right,
It's an Absolute pleasure to watch your work
Nice! But how accurate does this Table work? How big is the clearance/play between the baseplate and the X bed as well as the Y level?
Indeed very nice but I thinks those 4 bottom slots give enough wiggle room to calibrate it.
@@johnmalaihollo Further, you shouldn't bear the upper construction via threaded rods, because in the threads there is also space between
Nice work but I wouldn't want to be the guy moving or carrying it around.
