Here comes a beautiful puzzle which won first prize at a puzzle competition arranged by British chess magazine in 1911. It´s white´s turn and we have checkmate in 2 moves. Can you solve it?
The puzzle was composed by Godfrey Heathcote.

That is the most beautiful puzzle I've ever seen. I should have studied it longer, before watching.
This one is Stockfish level puzzle.......
What a composition!
Beautiful!
i think i have found 2 variations :)))) Ok im going to see prior ur solution. 1. Dxb3+, c4, Dxc4#; 2. Dxb3+, Kc6, Db7#
Lovely puzzle. What makes it manageable was that Bxf7 is such a strong-looking defence that I could start by finding first moves that would lead to mate after that response from Black. There are few, if any, other than Re3 that do so. I think the hardest mate-in-2 puzzles are puzzles where Black has different defences to different incorrect attempts.
To hard for me, but how beautiful! Keep'em coming❤
I needed 20 - 25 seconds to find it.
Thank you !👍👍👍👍
Thought it was Qxf4. But black has so many options. I guess black has some defence creating some space or somthing.
You are just excellent... brilliant puzzle.... Thank you very much again and God bless you
1...BxN is a really strong move that needs to be dealt with. But if white had a second guard on e5, the queen could mate on d7. So I tried 1. Re3, which turned out to be the right first move.
GREAT!
Tried Q to b2, but could not checkmate on next move if k to e4.
amazing!!!
Very hard. Tried the rook move but couldn't see the follow up.
Me too. I spent so much time on this, by the time I tried that move, my brain was mush. Just wish I'd given up sooner!
solved it after few hrs but i didnt like it.i recall a riddle u put withvthe kibg nishop walk all way across the board, now that was an unforgetable obe.
Nice
I first wanted to sac the rook in order to mate with Bg2, only later I discovered that it came with a threat. I did not see all the defences in advance but I did find all the mates myself be it sometimes after you showed those defences.
Thank you!👍👍👍👍👍
I was thinking of bishop to c4 but that was not even close
Noice!
Re3 if fxe3 then Bg2# or if bxf7 then Qxd7# or if nd4 then Bc4# or if rd4 then Qa8# or if c4 then Qxc4# or if d6 then Qe4# or if re5 then Rxe5# or if bf5 then Re5# or if f3 or g3 or rf5 or rh5 then Qe4#
Sooo beautiful 😂
i found rc4... well-close😊
I did get this. Not sure what led me to consider the key move, but something did - luck, probably!
My mind is blown. c-ya:-j
Bf4?
Solved
Yes indeed! Mikael solved it … for sure
Haha, be jealous :)
