Great one to jog the apprentices memory. Thanks for sharing guys.
A quite brilliant exposition of the multifarious steel conduit connectors and clamps. I love the banter and subtle innuendoes on the terminology of connector vernacular. A tour de force. Bravo!
Thank you so much for the videos.
Oh the happy memories of my time at Watford college,👍I have always liked working with conduit still or PVC Fantastic video guy’s as always 👍👍👍👍❤️⚡️
Sean, is Watford college still there? I'm not far from Watford and have a couple of apprentices that I need to get into education.
@@jollyfinequality9865 yes it is but i’am not sure if they still run the electrical installation course ? Also the college is located at the top end of Watford high street . Uxbridge college is probably more likely to be running the courses ?
Very informative video
Thank you.
Sponsored by Fiddy and Elliot of Metpro. Nice vid.
Just out of curiosity does anyone still use black enamel and why and where have you used it??
I call it X-Box ;)
T box
Do you use this old stuff over in the sun?
Why do they use brass pan head screws for the conduit boxes? Is there a reason.
I guess the strength of steel isn't needed to hold a lid on.
A ninja star box
4 way box = X box
No easy connect fittings? still greater use of threaded fittings in UK for metal conduit. There is a much bigger push here in the US to quick fit compression conduit connections couplings still providing a continuous earthing path even if there was no separate CPC provided.
You can get screw clamp terminal conduit rather than threaded conduit. You aren't allowed to use either as a CPC though.
@@arcadia1701e in US you are allowed to in certain situations but most electricians will put a ground conductor in case of mechanical damage.
Yes we do have them, they are called Conlock.
@@paulprescott7913 do they come in push-fit style without the need for tightening the screw down on the coupling?
@@mathman0101 no they don't. I think metpro bought conlock anyway.
Are conduit boxes fixed to the wall? There doesn't appear to be any fixing points?
The conduit is threaded onto the boxes, and the conduit is fixed to the wall without penetrating it, so the boxes aren't going anywhere and there's less places for moisture to get in.
Sometimes i will drill a 6mm hole in conduit box and fix it down with a square plate washer behind. Most of the time though, no fixing required
You should do a video comparing your conduit accessories to American accessories.
Forgot loopin and spider boxes
See part 2 and a few more rare boxes
Don't mention tee (tea )box or he will get you pay for it !
He’ll think it comes with biscuits 🍪 😂
It looks like you got those nasty brass bushes that are not fit for purpose . Compare them to bushes from 20 years ago and you will see what I mean. Unfortunately that seems all you can get now. Great video though
My ohmtite spanner useless on these Mickey mouse bushes ,also drill a 20mm hole the bushes nearly fall through!
Condiut ftgs are a disgrace nowadays Bush's and box lids are just 2 examples. Sadly they manufacturers have been buying them from China and India for longer than they will admit to. And the quality has dropped because of it.
They are so thin they are so easy to crack if you over tighten them, bloody useless.
@@paulprescott7913 if the box lids got any thinner you could see through them.Stripped out some old black enamelled conduit 1950s boxlids about 3mm thick.
