My second flight of the season in my glider (sailplane) and I find myself down in the rocks circling just a few hundred feet above the cliff tops trying to find lift. A big thunderstorm had blown through 30 minutes before and shut down much of the lift, but with 30 knot winds from the south, I knew I could find scraps of lift off the cliff faces to stay up long enough to catch one of the first thermals that formed in the new sun areas once the rocks heated up again. What a fun and scary but rewarding way to scrape up out of the rocks and get back home. Fun stuff! Thanks for watching and I love your comments! Bruno - B4
I love the way that you talk to us viewers, just like we are riding with you.
I can be mesmerized by these videos all day long.... So awesome
I think gliding is the next step in the evolution of tribal knowledge. Just like people sailed for undoubted thousands of years, I feel like we already did it before- with all memory erased in cataclysms. "Sailplanes"
Never knew about gliders until stumbling across your page.. That looks awesome
Bruno does a great job. I flew gliders back in the '80s. It really is the way to start your learning to fly.
u2mister1 fuck that I want my first plane to be a rocket ship lol jkjk honestly I’d love to glide just can’t afford it and the closet place to me is Las Vegas and that’s 2 hours away :/
@@gentlejake605 Gliding isn't cheap (esp. getting the license) but within a club usually compareable to other hobbies. Looks like there are only 5 clubs in NV... www.ssa.org/WhereToFlyText.asp?search=all&state=NV&Rides=false&Instruction=false&MGInstruction=false&ABC=false&Xcountry=false&Examiner=false&SearchDescription=&SearchSailplane=&submit=Go#step3
Awesome stuff Bruno! Can't wait for another full flight of yours to enjoy!
You're videos are awesome...I really like the views, scenery, and peacefulness. 😎👍
Thanks for letting me vicariously ride along. Would LOVE to do that for real one day. Working on it...
Very interesting video and the whole soaring situation which you have demonstrated us here - really glad that you have managed to find save way out there. As for my point of understanding (not so experienced glider pilot jet like You) the main lesson from it is - not to panic in difficult circumstances, evaluate calmly the correct wind direction and its strength and try to find appropriate (to the wind direction) slopes/landscape shapes where are more chances to find any lift with aim not to waste or even gain altitude if possible.
Love your channel! Your skills make the difficult look easy. Please recall something a pilot told me years ago: There are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old bold pilots.
Another nice video Bruno. I fly vicariously through you currently... Private gliders still are not allowed to fly in South Africa, which completely SUCKS! I am now on 82 days since my last allowed flight. At least the Clubs and training can operate from tomorrow, so lets hope this lockdown insanity stops here soon!
Nice Bruno, haven't watched in a while. "Keep it up"!
Whoa! Had me worried! 😮
First a like then I watch^^ Love your videos so much! Would love to see you fly in Austria, Innsbruck! :D
I flew in Austria some years ago, from Kufstein Langkampfen. Flying the Wilder Kaiser was spectacular and the scenery was gorgeous. One day I will return. My goal is to fly to the Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgarten (and return)!!
Man, are you sleepy or bored? Not sure I would be yawning in that situation ;) Nice to see another video. I thought from the title that we were going to see a video of you have a bumpy outlanding. Still waiting for duel flying to be allowed here in the UK so that I can start up again. Safe flying!
GREAT FLYING
Second! Awesome!
Hey Bruno, a few yawns there at the end of the vid! haha, i hope you didn't fall asleep on your final glide! Perhaps the fact you're not watching tumbleweed float across your wings as you scratch around a ridge looking for the next thermal has you a wee bit bored! Love the vids tho, keep 'em coming! :-)
Glad you waited to get the cam up & recording until after you got your low save... :) Did you have any real outlanding options available to you when you were clinging to the cliffs? Only done three flights this year, one being an outlanding BTW ;D Happy & Safe flying!
Hey Bruno, I've been watching your channel for years, Great to see you back up and flying after your run in with the FAA. I do like these shorter snippets of a flight but I really prefer the full multiple hour flight videos that you used to post. Is there any chance of getting some more of those again next season? Thanks for all the videos you've posted, looks like awesome fun.
Hi Ben - thanks for the nice comments and support. My suspension was delayed until July 20th so I am not flying again as PIC until February. :( Really sucks. I hope to make both long and short videos next season. Just depends what happens on some of the flights that might be considered interesting. Thanks for watching!
I love your videos. Can you tell me about your camera and the rig? Thanks!
nice!
Bruno! Try warmer socks, I use Heat Holders but there are many that do a better job. ✔️
Looks like you were using a head-mount for your GoPro ? I must say, I prefer the stationary mount on your canopy better. The image looks like it's jumping around with the head mount. I suppose it's easier to point the camera at something outside the sailplane with the head mount, thought. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Bruno, how and where do you have you camera mounted? I fly a '28' and I just can't find a suitable place (that I am comfortable with) to mount my GoPro. I have even thought of mounting it to the headrest on the seat but even that is not ideal.
Was this over by Emery? If it was, I couldn't imagine landing out there. What a pain in the ass to get to. Good recovery
Are you not going to be flying the rest of the year?
Bruno, is 4k making your videos shorter due to memory capacity ? I like the takeoff to landing full length videos, how about doing another trip to the Grand canyon in 4 k ?
👍👍👍😀
Wanted to drop a retractable prop into a 1-26, what do you think?
Are you guys using ADSB? Would be cool if you could see eachother on that big screen and get weather updates and stuff
The yawning - is it symptomatic of not getting enough Oxygen? Either in spite of the nasal O2 supply, or because that isn’t functioning/set correctly?
Bruno - I like to think of questions (some smart, some not so, lol),. but, have you ever been unable to land at Nephi due to inclement weather over the strip? How did you deal with it?
I was about to pose the exact same question. I see Bruno getting pretty low, far from home, many times and have wondered the same thing. Can the tow-plane come get you (with appropriate surface of course)? Also would love to hear more about what's going through your mind about eventualities...but you seem so calm. Wonderful footage making want to take up gliding again (i've moved to Ireland from UK so not the greatest place for it!).
Outlanding is a very normal part of soaring. The usual thing is to derig the glider and put it in the trailer. That's why Bruno was talking about the 2.5-hour drive had he outlanded there.
Do you have ADS-B out and or in ?
You sounded tired at the end of that, never heard you yawn before!
Glück in 💙 🇦🇹
Bruno what is the average flight time when you fly? You do fly alot and for me remote locations, just wounder (if the spelling is bad i blame that im swedish)
I would guess about 5 or 6 hours
Look back thru his older videos I'm pretty sure there are some full unedited flights on there...
@@WestCoastWheelman Yeah i have seen them, some are almost full time flying, He have some good skills in flying.
is it a job that exists to come get outlanding gliders?
Only for other glider pilots! And you don't get paid :)
How do you land?
Same as any other aircraft only slower.
This is my *yawn* flight in circles *yawn* hope you like it *yawn*😴😴😴
Can you instal a small electric jet on this thing for emergencies ? ... I don't want your hot shot down in middle of nowhere
whats the matter the glider without engines making you uncomfortable??? r u scared???
:-)
1st
if you sold ride alongs I'd make the drive and pay you whatever you wanted to charge me.
