  • OMG after watching this I questioned all the things I'm learning in hair school. Why aren't they teaching it this way??? This is SO much easier and looks flawless, not choppy the way they showed me

  • I have super fine medium length hair that I struggle to keep layered for body without compromising the weight or without having a distinct gap between the crown and the ends…but the blunt square cut technique is a game changer!! I always did the round point cut but I’m blown away at the body and layer definition in my hair now using the square technique!! It works beautifully!! And you’re so right, it was the easiest cut and the fastest too! Thank you for sharing this!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  • Summer! Thank you so much for this great video! I did this on myself, and it turned out great! First, I cut my perimeter, and I got that darn v in the back, but I cut that longest part that travels the most, and then the vi was gone. Then I followed each step carefully as you did in the video. I did the blunt, not point, cut. After a blow out, it was PERFECT! You are the best. You are so talented and you have such a beautiful camera presence. I love all your videos! Thanks a ton!

  • Great tutorial! I learned how to do square layers way back in 1996 as a student of Graham Webb Academy. The only difference was, they taught to take pie shaped sections around the back, which after seei g how you do it seems counterproductive. I suffered a neck injury shortly after graduating from GW, so never pursued a career in hairdressing. But doing hair for family, square was always my favorite to do! Thank you for showing point vs blunt cut on the same head. That was so helpful to see them together in the same haircut. That being said, my stylist always point cuts my hair. Next time I'm telling him to blunt cut the layers instead. STUNNING!!!

  • Hi Summer! Found you through Glam Girl Gabi... So glad I did! This is exactly what I have been wanting for my hair, but have failed to articulate. I really appreciate the videos you have shared that give us the right vocabulary to get what we want! "Surface layers" "drop the perimeter"... square cut vs round cut layers, effects of blunt cut vs point cutting... what to ask for to get what you want and more importantly, what we don't want! Pics help a hairdresser see what we want, but our head shapes and hairline along with hair density can really change a haircut. Going in to a poor hairdresser saying "I want layers" vs "I want long surface layers, square cut to protect my length"... game changer!

That's about the length I want as well, so even if I mess it up, I should have enough left for a professional to work with since my length is now well past my shoulders. =) I am a bit nervous about the initial perimeter cut/length however, so maybe I'll have my husband do that part, the back I should say~ thx again Summer
