- I'm not optimistic if it receives the same abuse that snapped it in the first place. Great skills shown without a shadow of a doubt, but...either 2 miles or 200 miles. Not 2000. Not on those roads.

I don't understand why he removes a part of the original width of the axle. That decreases the strength of the axle. Leave it alone. If he just cuts the two welds to the diameter of the axle that should be good enough.

- I would tend to agree but i figure the machinist has done this often enough that he knows a method that gives good results.

- @@martin-vv9lf In other words you give all logic to the guy in Pakistan. He is just making his work shiny, and you are giving credence to nothing.

- @@indrekkpringi I assume there are more factors at play. if he had simply welded the whole way through, then there may have been a wobble in the shaft which made it useless. therefore a weakened straight shaft would be of more value than a strong bent one. It's easy to criticise, but i have welded drill bits to make them longer for deep holes and it's actually quite difficult to do successfully. Tell me, have you repaired a similar shaft, or are you just an armchair machinist.
