One of my favorite aspects in the remake is that you can tell Isaac and the gang actually know what they’re doing and actually fix specific things and it shows it. Like when you get the plasma cutter Isaac messes with it to get it in working order, which makes it seem much more important and he knows how to modify equipment rather than just a random pickup item. You can tell he’s an engineer. He even had the proper clearance while entering the Ishimura. It adds a depth of realism and immersion

2008 man, Left 4 Dead, GTA 4, SSB Brawl, Fallout 3, Mario Kart Wii and Dead Space, such an amazing year and this game was imo my favourite that year, so looking forward to this....

With the updated graphics and other layered systems, this just shows how the first game is a masterpiece. As the vague memory of horror and thrill of the first game still holds up to this day, the remake captured the 'feeling' masterfully and remains true to the original.

My favorite part of DS1 is the Ishimura. Such a haunting location. Up there with the greats like Raccoon city police station
The best part about the Ishimura in my opinion was the shear scale of it, even back then the ship seem like a whole city and not just a ship.

This is great, they actually redid almost every part of the game instad of "simply" improving the UI and graphics.
Exactly what the last of us remake should have done, but nope they just change the pretty graphics and call it a remake

You can hear how Isaacs heartbeat goes up as the woman cuts her throat. Amazing.
The reaction isn't over sold either.
The characterization seems to have slightly changed, judging from the intro cutscene. The woman talks to Isaac in more sympathetic way, compared to how brash and suspicious she acted in the original.
Also one of the faceless mooks from the beginning is now a black chick who doesn't die? She isn't in the quarantined lobby but she also isn't with Hammond and Kendra after. Wonder what's up with a new character that should have died?
@@nigeltheoutlaw she actually dies, right as the Kellion blows up she gets knocked out from an explosion while trying to keep Necromorphs off the ship, and since the Kellion goes up in flames with her inside, yeah she hella dead
To be honest, her sympathy is probably meant to act as a way for the player to connect with her on an emotional level and it will very much work on players who did not play dead space before so they have no idea that she will betray us in the end.

What blows my mind the most is how well some aspects of the original still hold up. The remake obviously leaps and bounds ahead though. Looks great.
It really does hold up. But this is a still a compressed KZhead video. If you had both games game side by side in person on a 4K display the difference would be night and day.

If you legitimately can’t see a difference and somehow think the original is “better” you should really have your eyes checked and maybe don’t watch this video from your 540p phone screen or your 1080p TV.

Yeah, his animations should've been scripted to be tense and chaotic when his crew was slaughtered. Him standing there in relaxed position was kinda off.
when the spaceship blew up it was kinda cool how the original let you take control right till the last explosion, way more tense than a cutscene like in the remake
There are a lot of unnecessary cut scenes in the remake. More precisely, a remake is a movie based on the precepts of sony and so on, where they decide for you. The original almost always gave you the right where to look and what to do during the cut scene. YOU DECIDED WHAT TO DO!

Overall this is pretty nice, but there are certain things that make me wonder why they changed them, like the dude slamming his head at 3:24 made a more gushy sound in the first on his last head hit, etc.
2:15 love how the enhanced dynamic range and contrast in lighting improves the sense of terror. Only being able to properly see the enemy with the flashlight is brilliant; feeling confident this remake will greatly amplify the intentions of the original while staying true to the source. Can't deny that the original holds up remarkably being almost 15 years old; it seems like the 7th generation console period was the time where games truly became comfortably ageless.
Yeah, since then all games have just improved the polygon count, lighting and detail, but it has been a pretty linear progression with not a lot of changes to playability. Nothing like the jump from 16bit to 32, or even PS2 era to PS3.
To be fair, Doom 3 was criticized for doing this. Just happy to see different opinions.
Keep in mind the original holds up so well because it's a very dark game with dramatic (if faked) lighting effects. Look at any well lit area in the original vs the remake and the differences become extremely more apparent
Respect to the devs for keeping it incredibly faithful to the original while still building it back from the ground up.

As someone who missed out on these games Im super excited to play this remake & enjoy the experience for the first time with such a high level, hoping they remake #2 as well 🙌🏼

Yes, they give poor tactile response. The physics in general in this look severely downgraded, look at how the first necromorph Isaac deals with in the 18 minute gameplay reveal magically glides across the ground like friction doesn't exist.

It's funny, the remake feels more like he's going back to the original ship and reliving the nightmare, like a sequel. The graphics make everything on the Ishimura seem more "lived in" and older, maybe that's why.
You know, with Isaac wearing metal magnetic boots and walking on metal surfaces, I'm noticing a distinct lack of loud footsteps in many of the environments.

Some of the first game's cinematography and encounters impact was lost but it still looks like they captured a lot of the other aspects.

The immersion, it just doesn't feel impactful. The intro with corrupted Nicole videomessage, the ilumination in the first necromorph encounter, the explosion of the rescue ship, etc.. the original played with the camera angle and vibration of image in combination with ilumination. The remake it's bland in comparison.
The head banging at 3:19 is way more visually striking in the original, the blood makes the model stand out in a cool way. Tiny nitpick of mine lmao

Fun Fact: The elevator scene is a call back to James Cameron’s Aliens. Where Hicks and Ripley make it to the elevator. The score and sound effects get quiet like they’re safe and a Xeno jumps into the elevator and Hicks shoots it and the elevator closes on the Alien.

Two, it’s not like we’re talking about an old clunky PS1 game like Resident Evil 2. Dead Space is, in many ways, still a modern game. Yes, it’s got PS3/360 era graphics. But it’s a 3rd person action horror game with a unique combat style that still easily holds up under scrutiny. But moreover, every remake/reboot we get is one more developer not working on a new idea. Hell, give us a NEW Dead Space game, even. A remake is safe, easy cash, which is all the AAA industry cares about these days. If it’s not an open world adventure game, it’s a remake/reboot.

@@elin111 They built off the older engine so a majority of the game is obviously gonna look the same. It isn't some new dead space game, its just a rebuild of the older game, a remake. Remakes get improvements added to them but stay within the same formula. I find it hard to believe that you were expecting this remake to be completely different from the original.
