Big Buck Magazine Owner/Editor Rob Manley and his son Jay encountered this king bull elk in September of 2019. Jay had already taken a very nice but smaller bull 10 minutes before this brute showed up. With Jay's tag already filled, all they could do was watch in amazement taking in beauty of this animal.

Yeah beautiful 6×8 almost a shame some one would likely take him based on his perfect quality many go there whole lives and never even lay eyes on one that nice.

We got lots of elk like this in Saskatchewan where I’m from (southeast corner). I was a guide for nearly twenty years. When my daughter was born in 2002 I switched careers transitioning from working on drilling rigs into the life of a big game guide because I was a stay at home dad. Sometime in 2020, I came across this video. I was amazed and wishing that one day I could finally get my chance at a once in a lifetime animal. On September I got my 8x7 bull elk, and I couldn’t think of a better way to end my guide life. I’d love to spend the rest of my life being near them, observing, and photographing because I simply love elk. I started hunting these magnificent animals in 1987 at age 15. My uncles showed me the way. I lost my dad young - we both attended the Indian Residential Schools in our area. I’m thankful for having kept the families way of life alive after losing everyone to alcohol and suicide. The 1960’s were a tough time to be alive for Indian children across Canada.

I lived in Belgrade Montana, next door to Bozeman. In Big Sky down Jackrabbit lane I saw a big young bull moose with a nice beard and decent rack. THAT, for me, was the MOST Majestic creature I have ever seen up close in the wilderness. I saw herds of Elk, and came as close as 30 feet away. The bull in this video is the BIGGEST Elk that I've ever seen. Beautiful.
Just to see that bull is amazing, he needs to carry on those genes !!

I always say, "you can't eat the antlers" with that method of thinking we currently have 3 freezers full of wild game. That's enough to feed us until next hunting season. I absolutely love Elke. One of the world's most majestic animals in my opinion. The head of a cow, the horns of a deer on steroids and the body of a horse. Quite the mixture.

This boy looks at least 3 years old I'd assume he's passed his genes around quite a few times. Of course you want to keep that bloodline going but man no way would I be able to pass up a shot on this giant

My ancestors where hunter tribesmen. We have a code for hunting. ‘Always hunt for food, never for hubris’. Our people always took care to spare finest and strongest specimen among our prey.

I do the same with the fish I catch. Release the big ones. Only keep one fish that is the right size to make a meal for the missus and me. And I don't belong to a native tribe or have ancestors that lived off the land. Nothing holy or special about respecting nature. Just common sense.
I have the same morals, I never hunt the strongest one, its feels like its against nature to do it.
That Elk looks beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Also that feels dangerously close to a giant animal like that. Plus the way it's drooling gave me Wendigo vibes for a second.

I hunted my entire life, loved everything about it. Then suddenly, at age 38 or so, something changed, and I just couldn't kill anymore. I mean, look at this bull. What a beauty!

@@mtlassen1992 Interesting that others have had that happen as well. I was all about it at a younger age, and then at about 40 I thought, "If I had to to feed my family I would, but there's a King Soopers about 3 miles from my house and this is where I will get my meat for now."

Beautiful elk. Been in a simular situation bow hunting deer season. 2 bulls stood up( 5s) frome behind a huge fallen tree. And right there i made my mind up to never put an elk down ever.
Wow! Just amazing!!! That is definitely the biggest bull elk I've ever seen! Elk are wise creatures and I do wish people would leave them alone as far as hunting goes! Please people!
If they were anywhere near being an endangered species we wouldn't be able to hunt them. Don't worry. There are plenty that are protected.

This is the species known as the Manitoban elk. The second largest if not the largest species of elk after the Roosevelt elk
