  • Try spraying the top of the piston with a couple layers of copper kote and let it dry. That should prevent compression from escaping through the porous wood anyhow. It should then in theory allow it to start up and run on ordinary gasoline. At least it should run for a few seconds until the ring lands burn themselves up

    • compression doesn't have time to go thru the wood. He forgot to make the cuts at the bottom of the piston

  • It's absolutely fascinating to think that the cylinder had any compression to begin with. I think it's mostly about the piston rings. The acrylic block held up really well.

    • I suspect the rings rebored the acrilic cylinder almost immediately losing compression right away, with the sharp edge taken off the top ring I think it might have ran

  • You did realize that part of your issues with getting it to run was due to the way you installed the carburetor, right? That wedge that allows the carb to bolt up to your reed block is upside down. Check out the angle the carb is sitting at vs earlier. AWESOME work though! Truly amazing, thank you for sharing!

  • The exhaust pipe on a 2 stroke isn't just for looks. It's actually pretty important in order to produce enough compression to make the engine run.

    • Nope the exhaust on a 2 stroke is responsible for sending pressure waves back to the head forcing extra fuel mixture into the cylinder nothing to do with compression

  • Wilde Sachen. Solche Bastler finde ich sehr inspirierend. Als Jugendlicher habe ich auch sehr viel an unseren Motors und alten Autos geschraubt, die eigentlich für den Schrott gedacht worden! Macht weiter so macht super Spaß eure Videos anzugucken ihr seid echt coole Typen .

  • aside from the crown not being strong enough to hold the combustion pressure, the reason it didnt start is most likely because the piston skirt isn't sealing, thus not able to draw in fuel/air mix in sufficient quantity to get it to stay running. maybe try cherry or southern live oak next time :)

    • @@ct1762 An air cooled two stroke at that, they have looser clearance than water cooled two strokes. The rings need to seal the combustion pressures on the way down as well as seal against the combustion event. Technically it's the oil that does the sealing, without it the piston/rings would wear pretty quickly.

  • Необходимо было изготовить вырезы в юбке поршня как в штатном варианте. Так же фланец на карбюраторе необходимо было перевернуть таким образом чтобы карбюратор стоял ровно. Тогда всё работало бы отлично. Удачи!

  • Salut, c'est surprenant et joueur d'essayer un piston en bois ! Je suis presque sur avec un revêtement en alu sur le haut du piston cela fonctionnerait, mais pas dans la durée. Merci pour cette belle expérience et félicitations pour cette tentative.

  • Bypass windows were not made on the piston, the fuel mixture did not really get into the combustion chamber. I think that's why the engine didn't want to start. It was interesting to see, thanks. 👍

  • Słyszałem legendy że ludzie dorabiali w dawnych czasach tłoki z drewna nie wierzyłem w to ale kolega kupił silnik od WFM 125 na części od handlarza z 15 lat temu i był w nim drewniany tłok ale widać nigdy to nie działało bo nawet nie był osmolony ani nic nie próbowaliśmy go uruchamiać😉

  • Lepszym rozwiązaniem była by gęsta sklejka, lite drewno jest za bardzo porowate i pierścienie nie są w stanie uszczelnić się przy sprężaniu

    • A eastern german classic. Simsons are still very popular, because they drive 65 km/h. All the modern 50cc smal bikes only run 45 km/h.

  • wydech jest bardzo istotny w 2T, bo paliwo wychodzi do wydechu i jest zasysane spowrotem do komory spalania, a do tego rezonans tam zachodzi i musi być optymalna objętość do obrotów na jakich chcesz to rżnąć, żeby zmaksymalizować efekt. Bez wydechu, żeby to hulało musisz kompletnie zmienić parametry gaźnika - wszystko dać większe, ale to i tak nie będzie liniowo większe, tylko np dysza główna dużo większa, a dysza jałowych nieco większa, igły wtedy muszą mieć inną rzeźbę, bo wraz z otwarciem przepustnicy inne dawki paliwa daje, bez wydechu to ból d. to odpalać, żeby się w ogóle zająknęło... Jak chciałeś zailustrować też spalanie mieszanki trzeba było zrobić chociaż kilkanaście cm wydechu z tej żywicy - widziałbyś jak ogień z wydechu cofa się do komory spalania.

  • Perhaps some "performance coatings " would significantly enhance the durability of the piston, though not the RPM capability of the material. Interesting video, was surprised that the engine ran as well as it did

  • Cześć Mam pytanie, jeśli to nie tajemnica, co to za przystawka lub może cała szlifierka kątowa, po kolorach proxxon przypomina, najlepiej widać to w momencie 3:20. Mieliśmy po prostu już różne, i z każda było coś, a widzę, ze twoja już trochę przepracowała. Pozdro
