Islam is a great training partner, he never uses power and he allows the kid to try stuff, he even encourages him. That's the russian training school, it's all about playing, using technique and having fun, they almost never go at 100% in training. That's why they are so technical and the best wrestlers in the world.

Breakdown for non-wrestlers: He first taps his neck as a supposed distraction, after which (and this is the part most unexperienced wrestlers won't pick up on) he uses his left hand to reach for the opponent's right leg, pretending to take the single leg, while at the same time having control of the opponent's right hand. When he reaches for the opponent's right leg, the opponent naturally tries to step his right leg back in order to avoid it from being captured. As the opponent lifts his right leg up to step back for a split second, it is at that moment that all his weight is resting on his left leg, at which point Islam then pulls the opponent's left hand that he had in control, under and up top, on the other side, causing the opponent to lose balance (due to all his weight being on one leg), and falling flat on his face. Edit: Thanks alot guys for your kind replies, didn't think i'd get so many likes and responses. Someone asked how to defend it; though i'm not an expert, the only way i can tell it could be defended is if Chase didn't let go of Islam's right hand that was grabbing Chase's left hand. Islam couldn't have pulled this move had Chase continued to block the rotation with his free hand. Notice that he lets go of Islam's hand split second before Islam does the arm raise and rotation.

It's interesting to see that Islam has more of a judo approach to his wrestling than Khabib. Islam (left-handed fighter) opts to control his opponent's left hand before placing his own left hand. Whereas Khabib more often settles for double underhooks and more 'unorthodox' grips. This results in both athletes favoring different type of techniques. Islam feels comfortable playing around with the 'switcheroo' (uchi mata to ko soto and visa versa), whereas Khabib is looking to exert pressure and going for pickups. Very interesting how they have a trademark different style, while they grew up and trained together!

@@josevaldez4838 chase threw himself off balance and he pulled his arm.
At first i didnt see it was too fast
Exactly! Had to watch at x0.25 speed to catch the details... My Judo upbringing gave me decent base, but somehow it lacked this kind of delicious subterfuge.
Because of this tutorial I hit this 65% of the time in No-Gi bjj class
Wow as if it wasn’t beautiful enough. That explanation tho, it made me understand the move even with minimal wrestling experience.
thanks for the explanation.
your explanation make it clear, nice one
It's interesting to see that Islam has more of a judo approach to his wrestling than Khabib. Islam (left-handed fighter) opts to control his opponent's left hand before placing his own left hand. Whereas Khabib more often settles for double underhooks and more 'unorthodox' grips. This results in both athletes favoring different type of techniques. Islam feels comfortable playing around with the 'switcheroo' (uchi mata to ko soto and visa versa), whereas Khabib is looking to exert pressure and going for pickups. Very interesting how they have a trademark different style, while they grew up and trained together!
Majority of Khabibs takedowns off the wall/cage. Khabib heavily reliant on the backstop whilst Islam less reliant.
Mann! Don't know what you're talking about... Khabib's trips were all Judo!
Guys, check Javier Mendez' latest interview on Khabib and Islam. He basically says what I'm saying
I love certain techniques aswell, but some techniques I don't functionally use. These aren't necessarely the same.

Revisiting this because he's champ now
Yes
Islam looked as if he was expending very little energy and was just so calm whenever that kid dived for his lower leg.
Russians, Chechens, Dagestanis, they all know how to properly utilize their energy in wrestling, that's why they never gas out and are damn near impossible to take down. They have it down to a science.
@@k.c.lejeune6613 When your coach since you was kid teached you tecnique instead cardio and tell you that your advantage against US folk wrestlers - is tecnique and will - you learn it. When kids 10- 12 they have knowledge about their own style strong and weak sides. 50 years before and today that all similar - us had an edge at cardio, russians at tecnique
That's the power of a tremendous skill and experience gap. Islam has seen so many different attacking combos in his day that he doesn't need to consciously think about how to defend. His body automatically knows what to do.
That Oh-Gee Don ultra instinct islam
if you drilled single leg defense all ur life u get confident even when ur oppenent gets in deep because yk how to counter like every common finish.. harder to do with doubles but singles are harder to finish on a really solid wrestler
2:55 is actually so nice.

This is light technical training. Both are benefitting from it. The young man will be a beast one day because of his hard work, and he is around world champions. Steel sharpening steel. Not many people have the blessing to be surrounded with elite wrestlers such as this young man.

2:21 Islam flexing that chin while casually doing a toe rise...like the TOTAL BADASS that he is. #islamtime #champ
Look at Islams hands and how he focuses on his center of gravity. This is a lifetime of experience on display. This is why they are not scared to tell people their game plan, because a couple months of training is not enough compared to a life time of training. That's unheard of. Respect to Dana and UFC for making these great fights consistently. I'm ALWAYS looking forward to a Islam fight, not so much a Charles fight to be honest. I like to see dominance and Islam provides this.

That little tap on the nape of his neck right before the move was beautiful. The slightest bit of distraction on a fairly sensitive part of the body was enough to make him hesitate
Faked a single, made the guy sprawl and turned him over while his feet were practically in the air. Exquisite timing and execution.
Islam looks really comfortable and calm
He is also ten times the wrestler of his opponent, so it makes sense.

@PrisonCipher Gracie lmao, they are overrated and wrestlers like Sakuraba exposed them.
@PrisonCipher And he's playing with him, don't even go 100%, he let him use stuff; Russias are known for that, they use low-energy and are generally hard to TD, that's why they are the best wrestlers
Man, we just don't know how good they are. We don't see how hard they train, we only get to see an overview on how they train and how they perform but I'm sure we lose the most of the hard beatings they receive in order for them to be so dominant. Huge respect to the Russian guys from Mexico.
