For example, if it's a key hit with the forefinger, it could be one that needs more psi, whereas the puny pinky finger might be better with a key that requires less downforce. Keys that are used most often might have a quieter action, etc.

  • Even though cherry mx switches are the most popular switches in prebuilt keyboards they aren't even close to being the best. Kailh box jades, pinks or whites for example are *a lot* more satisfying to type on than blues because they make a sharp, crisp sound instead of a rattly one, tangerines or alpacas are nicer to use because they are a lot more smooth that cherry mx reds, hako trues or let's say tealios are better than browns because they are less scratchy and more tactile. Also horrible rattly stabilizers aren't a problem on custom keyboards.. Oh and also _topre_, those are arguably the best switches for typing in existence but I left them out because they're expensive as shit.

    @paulbraun4272@paulbraun42724 жыл бұрын

    • Kailh, Gateron Idk they are even cheaper than Cherry. Nowadays you don't have to spend too much to make yourself a custom built keyboard anymore since there are plenty of fairly affordable options. Yet for the price of MX switches you usually can get like top of the line enthusiast switches too.

      @Niels_f2704@Niels_f27043 жыл бұрын
    • "Feel" is subjective, and Cherry have definitely lost the "enthusiast" crowd by failing to manufacture as many varieties as the competition, but nothing gets close in terms of engineering quality. Kailh have terrible manufacturing tolerances, Gateron are a bit better but nowhere near Cherry's standards.

      @JimIBobIJones@JimIBobIJones2 жыл бұрын
    • @@JimIBobIJones I think that’s not quite true, tangerines and alpacas as mentioned by OP are infinitely better than MX Reds, and something like Akko Blue Oceans are much better than MX Browns. Blues are… well they’re blues. Cherry does make high quality switches in terms of engineering, but it’s not fair to say nothing else comes close, because almost anything else does. Also cherry has a lot of variety, specifically with stuff like their Silver and Black switches.

  • i currently have blue and i love the clack, having both the clack and tactile feedback really makes my typing faster and more accurate, that being said, i find that i have a lot of fatigue on my blue, i think i'm going to switch to brown just so that i can type for longer with less strain on my hands. it seems like brown is the closest to blue for feel but the keys are lighter to press. my blue has also probably trained me to type harder :/ even if i don't love brown i'll still always have my blue

  • Good video, but I think the problem with these sound test videos is that people are using microphones that pick up best in the mid-range (naturally) for vocals, so they don't give a good comparison of the sound, where the real difference falls more at the high range. The browns and blues almost sound the same.

    @JohnDoe-ej3wp@JohnDoe-ej3wp3 жыл бұрын
  • How would you comment on the satisfaction of typing? Do the Blues feel more "satisfactory", or like they have more "power" when you use them? Is that nicer for programming? I'm thinking of ordering second hand Keychron... I used Blues back in the days, but now been using browns for a while. So wondering if the Blue will make it sound more "satisfying" to type out the . :) Thank you for your comment

I've seen a few people manage to get the muscle memory to only hit the actuation point where you get the initial tactile response and manage to up their typing speed by a dozen WPM or more. I've done PC gaming with it and I love it, probably better switches in the lineup for intense gaming but I really enjoy these for typing. Ten million times better than the mush of a membrane keyboard. I've noticed my typing output is far slower on a membrane keyboard.

  • For anyone who used both brown and blue, brown ones would be more preferable for most of them. If one starts their mechanical keyboard journey with the blue, as long as one doesn't switch to the brown, the blue is good enough. However, if one starts with the brown one, then switches to the blue, they will find the blue is "too heavy." I started with the blue switch, then changed to brown. When I got to used the brown, the blue switches make me feel a little harder to press.

But these silver speeds I am using right now are very fast but the only issue is that they're way 2 loud. When I type its probably louder then the blue switches. For gaming they are okay but for typing too loud.

I'm just looking for an in-between, but I am still considering buying one or the other.

  • MX Blue has hysteresis which looks good for typing but I type better on browns. Maybe because I adore clears, which was my first mechanical keyboard

    @northsta@northsta2 жыл бұрын
  • Bigest reason to get mechanical is the feedback but everyone complain about the audio feedback, i get it for work. But otherwise that's 50% of the experience. I want some damn click when i press my key! If you mostly game red switches it is if you mostly write/code go with blue if your at work go brown like shit because that's still a shity compromise.

  • Nice, have been using MX blues for over 5 years now, but going for the browns this time, based on your video. Ordered a Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate US lay-out, Cherry MX Brown keys 🎉⌨ I am using O-rings to to dampen the noise (Blue is soooo loud), hoping that won't we necessarily with the brown switches, thus keeping a longer travel. 🤞 Thanks for your video!

      @jma7379@jma73792 жыл бұрын
    • @@jma7379 I have always been quite happy with my blues, but they made too much noise, so I switched (no pun intended) to browns now. And I must say, they type a bit lighter too, so I actually like them better than blues, besides making less noise. So it's a double win for me 😊 I'm using my keyboard for programming btw, not fulltime writing or gaming.

    • If you want to get a quite keyboard you can either get o-rings that you can attach the the switches to dampen the sound or if you can get another keyboard cherry mc silent reds are switches that are almost inaudible

      @nectar9757@nectar97573 жыл бұрын
  • I bought a keybaord with blue switches, and I think maybe it's a little on the loud side and should have gone brown, even though I love the way it feels. Watching this video, it seems that the brown isn't a whole lot quieter.

    @kennygee2715@kennygee2715 Жыл бұрын
    • No, the video is not correct because its too sensitive. Brown is a lot quieter and feels much better. You can also add an o-ring to help dampen it more. I'm glad I went to a store to test out keyboards before I got my keyboard. The clicky sounds of the blue drove me nuts. I can image how its much worse for others around me if I was using that keyboard. I ended up with the Logitech G710+ a while back because it was one of the few that had the brown keys along with an o-ring. Its also lighter to press so you don't get as worn out after an 8 hour day at work typing on a keyboard or at home.
