  • After a terrible 2022, shell-shocked financial backers have a lot to think about and losses to recover from. An expansion report and a wealth of other data did little to alter assumptions that the Central bank would likely keep raising interest rates regardless of whether the economy slows down. This implies that portfolios will experience more losses during the first quarter of 2023. I'm currently at a crossroads deciding whether to exchange my $250k security/stock portfolio; how might the continuous market volatility work to my advantage?

  • One thing that always makes me revert back to ground zero is when my motivation/spark is over, and I believe it's because I would forget "why" I'm doing what I'm doing in the first place. Routines do get boring, even though I would tell myself "I could eat this for the rest of my life" and a month later I'm turned off by it. And the "why" aspect of it isn't that I'm trying to form habits, but I'm trying to form an identity, and I'm realizing how hard it is to go against the tide day after day-night after night, of doing things I don't want to, repeatedly, daily, whether I want to or not. It's a job. You can't just call off sick because if you do, and you'll get a day off or two, you can't get more days off for a while, and us being f**ked up creatures of "habit", we'd rather get another day off than grind through the pain. It's extremely difficult for those starting this as an old dog, even middle age, even in 30s. Personally, I would even tell myself that I don't care about anything, I don't need to succeed, I don't need money, I can live in a car in the woods for the rest of my life. What's the point in all of this? That's my problem.

    @BIGGELATO@BIGGELATO Жыл бұрын
    • You have to really want the objective internally ... Not just because the society at large wants you to do it. It has to be filling an emotional void in you. Meaning if the emotion is not there, you have to create it first ... For example: ... Simply trying to compete with someone else and believing you are better than them can be a big motivator ... But you must really get into it and be disgusted with yourself if the other person beats you.

I'm in my 40's and believe the older I get and the more love and empathy I decide to give to others, the happier I am; its usually an unfair trade where I am the one not receiving, however, not receiving doesn't necessarily mean I've got the short end of the stick.

  • Got a little deep there towards the end. While I am working on starting my programming career I have been reading up on souls and the meaning of life and just going down the rabbit hole. I like your perspective. I used to ask if people were happy, but happiness is a reaction to something and not a continuous state. So, as long as this condition is met, you feel happy. Doesn't make for a long term success story,...always trying to meet that condition. I believe your soul will experience multiple lives and along the way pick up certain lessons. It is up to you to make mistakes and learn. The question I come up with is what are the lessons trying to teach? Maybe if there were a list, I could just not have to fail (which leads to suffering) to learn these traits. I also believe that you need to exhibit those traits (embed them into the habits of your soul) to continue on. (To what, I don't know). Ultimately, we will all figure out the meaning of life. Might take some longer, but we all get there. Money is not it, happiness is not it, even building skillsets is not it. I think these things help in life, but are not the meaning of life. Good luck on your search and keep these videos coming.

  • I'm a millionaire and I'm not one bit happier now than I was 20 years ago. Being a millionaire doesn't make life any better but it can make it worse. That's why no one knows I"m a millionaire, not even my wife; she thinks we're comfortably middle class. If you want to find the fastest way to separate yourself from your lifelong friends and family, start showing off your money. Now when I splurge, I either imply that I had to borrow big time or I don't tell anyone. So when I went to Europe on a family holiday, no one knew that we flew business class instead of economy. By the way, I had a lot more fun on a cheap reunion trip with my College friends than I did on the expensive Europe trip.

    • If you can't share your financial situation with your wife then what is the point of being married? I want my wife to know everything about my finances because if I get hit by a car and she suddenly has all of my assets, she will be prepared and won't feel shocked when she sees what was in my bank account. Seems kinda messed up to hide that type of info from the person who you are supposed to trust the most. Also I never talk about my money with my friends because it's none of their business... but you don't need to be so humble to the point where you lie to people about where the money is coming from.
