Hello everyone! 👋🙂 Tim from ChamferZone here. Today, I am excited to share with you the chapter overview for the all new weapon tutorial available at
Gumroad chamferzone.gumroad.com/l/Rev...
Artstation www.artstation.com/a/8792543
Flipped Normals flippednormals.com/downloads/...
The Revolver Tutorial is an all new, state of the art weapon tutorial for the Blender era as well as Marmoset Toolbag 4 and Substance Painter for baking, texturing and portfolio ready renders. Create a customizable revolver together with two mountable attachment pieces for it: a flashlight and a reflex scope as you would find it almost any FPS video game these days. As we go through the various modeling stages we will make use of all the latest tools, modifiers, plugins and techniques that help us do the best job possible. We built the revolver fully detachable: you can even take the rail off.

    • Hello Adam, appreciate it but don't see it as such a bad thing. Ultimately it will benefit you to know both Max and Blender but after a decade of working with Max to me it's been nothing but enjoyable to be working with Blender now and there's no downside to it. The tools are great, the modeling is fluid and on top of that it's free. Blender has a lot going for it and that's what makes it interesting to me as a tutorial creator too.

  • As a lifelong Max user (on and off for 20 years!) I'm finding it really difficult to switch to Blender, just because of the weird way it works sometimes (and the default key layout - eugh) but your earlier tutorials definitely help with that. Maybe this will be the thing that finally makes me switch.

    @daveface69@daveface692 жыл бұрын
    • Hello Dave, I've been quite a bit hesitant too in the beginning and it was mostly a buddy from Digital Extremes - Kronk at the ChamferZone discord ;) - that sold me hard onto it and when I saw him work in Blender I just liked what I saw. Now fast-forwarding to today I am really happy having done that switch. It's very rewarding once you get into the flow for it. To me Blender feels very fluid, the tools are great and it's a enjoyable experience. That is not supposed to discredit Max or anything but it's just nice having this as an alternative to choose from and also not having to worry about licenses. I can highly recommend you giving it another try too :)

    • I also started out in 3dsmax for a few years (I remember watching tims grenade tutorial back when we had the first substance painter, before it became industry standard xD) and I tried to switch to blender twice and failed both times, but I saw 2.8 when it came out and decided to try again, and by then I had learned enough in 3D to realise blender can do everything other programs can, and now I enjoy using it. Plus all the plugins and stuff, like hairtool for making game ready hair and many other plugins, are cheaper than buying 3dsmax for a year, so, totally worth the effort to learn. Also worth looking into ui and keyboard tutorials, to learn how to customize it to feel more like 3ds max, and also program some handy shortcuts to whatever you want.

      @Cloudy0w0@Cloudy0w02 жыл бұрын
    • You now what? First step is dificult but next steps are very excited. 3ds max -> Modo -> Blender. It's was best choice. You must try. Believe me...Blender's world is like...pink glasses on your nose, travel to the your destination. I think...i spend too much time in 3dsMax. Blender is free and amazing.

    • I used 3DS Max for 19 years myself for games design primarily... I swore that I'd NEVER use Blender and advised people not to use it because of how terrible its interface was. However - I'm eating my words right now. Back in February I saw that Blenders interface and features had undergone a massive overhaul as of 2.8 and, as an artist, I was really impressed by the way it now looked. So I installed it and gave it a go after watching a few "New to Blender" tutorials. I've since given up 3DS Max and now highly recommend Blender to everybody. In some ways I'm much faster in Blender than I was in 3DS and it just offers far more to me as an artist.

  • Plan to buy this tomorrow and start, looks like it’s around 19 hours of watch time, there’s gonna be a lot of pausing and going back, but expect it will take me around 40 hours. That means I can get it done in 1-2 weeks. The reason I’m buying this isn’t because I want a revolver as a portfolio piece, but rather to learn the method of creating weapons. I’ve seen a lot of people agree (mainly talking to people within the industry on ArtStation) that (if your using blender for weapon creation) this is the best method. So I’m hoping this will give me the skills and no how to create advanced weapons of my own. I’ve been using blender (regularly) for about a year or so and would consider myself an intermediate level. Very excited about this course. One thing I highly recommend for anyone thinking about getting this course is that if you do TAKE NOTES! I’ve followed tutorials in the past that I have bought and forgot half the stuff a few weeks later. The goal of this course is to teach you to make weapons of your own and learn the workflow, not to “create a revolver” Also, have never used marmoset before, so I’m excited about that. I swear 90% of the hardsurface models I see on ArtStation are rendered in marmoset. It’s a great tool and was planning on buying it anyway. If anyone see this comment at a later time and wants to know how it went, let me know and I’ll give you the run down

Have you tried using the Bevel modifier using the Bevel Weight feature (right next to Mean Crease) to mark where your sharp edges will appear, as well as how sharp they will be. • Looks great Tim, I’d get it except that the texturing is all in Substance, would you consider also adding doing the texturing in Marmoset?

    @DanMcLaughlin@DanMcLaughlin2 жыл бұрын
    • Hey Dan! I was giving that plenty of thought because I really like the Marmoset Texturing but I decided to stick to Substance Painter for now because it has so many procedural textures and tools such as adding text etc for which we make use in that tutorial so basically a few things would have been much harder to achieve with Marmo Texturing. I do like it though which is why I made the grenade texturing tutorial and I hope they further improve at the procedural front. I'd love to make the next big tutorial in Marmoset for texturing if it's all there :)

      @ChamferZone@ChamferZone2 жыл бұрын
    • I hear you, but to be fair for text at least you can just import alphas into MT and stamp, which is what you have to to in SP anyhow if you want to use anything other than the built in fonts (with the cool inbuilt text-stamp too). At any rate since the goal is learning here having a MT section would be a valuable addition to the course.

      @DanMcLaughlin@DanMcLaughlin2 жыл бұрын
    • @@DanMcLaughlin Yes there would have been ways to work around it and I also make use of plenty of alpha textures instead of the text tool but there are more "procedural" things where SP has the upper hand right now. I certainly look forward to see that changing though. Marmoset Texturing has a lot going for it, it's a bit of a diamond in the rough right now.

      @ChamferZone@ChamferZone2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChamferZone Got it. FWIW SP is problematic because to really get use out of it you need a subscription to get library access (I have a Steam indie). Bigger issue for me is that I find it way more work to get satisfying results in SP than Marmoset. Rather than the flat ‘click space’ of MT, SP requires lots of digging around, and half the time a slider or control doesn’t have any affect anyhow. Ultimately it’s preference, both are sophisticated enough that you can get equivalent results either way. Well anyhow if you can supplement the channel with more MT content that would be very helpful, not a lot out there still on MT4.

  • Looks great! Is it suitable for those who never used Blender before? Edit - Nevermind, I've found your Bledner tutorial. :D

    @dannyrooster8554@dannyrooster85542 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Danny, awesome :) Yes, I try to make all my tutorials so that anyone can follow. That doesn't mean that it will be "easy" to follow through but in general most actions we do are quite repetitive so if I do something in the tutorial that maybe you don't quite understand when you first follow it, it might become more clear after the 5th time you do it as to WHY we're doing it. This is the natural learning process that will happen then :) And yes the fundamentals course is important, I also included it to the revolver tutorial to make sure people see it and get the chance to watch it if they haven't already. Just to familiarize yourself with all the tools and modifiers and other basics.

    @GeorgeLikoudis@GeorgeLikoudis2 жыл бұрын
    • Hello George, it's a frequent question people are asking and I understand it of course. Currently I am noticing that plenty very noticeable video game studios/publishers have a big interest in learning Blender. Blender 2.8 was the release that kind of marked that shift in my opinion due to appealing new UI among other things and ever since then Blender has been in hot demand not only for personal users but also for studios that not only provide funding for it (Epic, Ubisoft etc.) but are also interested in using it. In fact I am currently about to prepare a workshop for a well known video game publisher where I will be giving lessons in Blender. 🙂 Like I was writing under the fundamentals course as a comment.. in most cases the place you work for would/should be 100% okay with you using Blender for the average modeling. There's absolutely no reason that would speak against you using it because ultimately what matters is the end result in FBX format (well in most cases). What software you are using to get there does usually not matter to anyone unless there are maybe some VERY specific reasons why you would have to stick to one software only. Like maybe making use of some specific tools that you need to export/import towards their engine but even then you could do all the modeling in Blender and simply import it back for the finishing touches into the other software. In my whole career span there would hardly ever have been any objecting reasons and I been using Blender at my previous work place as well as plenty of other artists. It's actually being encouraged rather then being made an issue. This is not supposed to mean.. use THIS software over the other but ultimately you can use whatever software you prefer and feel comfortable in. Blender has two great things going for it.. it's free.. and excellent on top of that.

      @ChamferZone@ChamferZone2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChamferZone 100% agree why would anyone limit their self to 1 DCC I personally use Maya but I started 3D with Blender and I still use it often. some things are simply faster for me in Blender and somethings make more since to me in Maya... I also use substance painter, marmoset, ZBrush and just started Houdini. If you can learn and make things easier on yourself go for it!

      @Biru_to@Biru_to2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ChamferZone , unfortunately, Blender makes a whole bunch of things to do so complicated.. The stuff i can do in 3Ds Max takes waaay more time here. I do agree that Blender is great for VFX and good at animation but accurate modelling isn't about Blender. Sure, it's free and there's no studio which will be against of using it but as.. let's say, an experienced user of 3Ds Max, every time as i'm starting to create a model which is't absolutely simple, i feel like i'm sitting on a chair which is flipped over.

I see it everywhere for blender but still have no idea what it's capable of. From what I do understand tho, I feel like itd pair very well with this remeshing workflow.

    @JayTraversJT@JayTraversJT2 жыл бұрын
    • I also would be interested what are the benefits of using the remeshing workflow over just using the fast "boolean + weighted normals" workflow? By using HOPSCUTTER/MESHMACHINE and ignoring clean topo, this workflow is still the fastest IMHO?!

  • can a beginner in blender follows this tutorial?

    @kaizendigital_id@kaizendigital_id2 жыл бұрын
    • Hello. I try to make all my tutorials so that anyone can follow. I recommend watching my free Introduction to Blender tutorial first, as well as the flashbang tutorial. You can find it here on KZhead. And like I was just saying to someone else on here, that doesn't mean that it will be "easy" to follow through but in general most actions we do are quite repetitive so if I do something in the tutorial that maybe you don't quite understand when you first follow it, it might become more clear after the 5th time you do it as to WHY we're doing it but I also comment on everything I do and why we do it. This is the natural learning process that will happen then :) I do my best to make these tutorials as approachable as possible for beginners and it works well for a lot of people over the past years.

    • Hello Wasim, this is a paid tutorial course with a total span of almost 20 hours. However the final chapter which is making portfolio ready renders will be free to watch on KZhead as well as more free tutorials coming in the future to this channel.

  • Just started this tutorial and realized that it makes too many comparison with 3ds max and after 5 minutes it put you to download some plugins that make Blender behave like 3ds max. But why? I think this tutorial is more for 3ds max users that want to switch to Blender and they complain like little cry babies

  • Cool, but this technique is more for Zbrush. To use this in blender you need a powerful PC.

    @FlowerPower3000@FlowerPower30002 жыл бұрын
    • Hello, I understand that people are concerned about that but I am glad to say that this is not accurate. In the tutorial I will show ways to deal with the performance impact and I will also make a special youtube episode about it :) My PC is not powerful at all (6+ years) and I had zero issues.
