I'm not sure that its very responsible with no real evidence. It may be insensitive for me to say this but, if you've got a child with mental health issues raised in rural Oxford that converts to Islam, meets with people much senior in age regularly, is becoming concerned with geo-political issues associated with the Muslim world, grows a beard, you've overlooked about 5 red flags already. But, perhaps it was such an outlandish prospect they never could have envisaged it.

    • +David Murphy As of now all that's happened is a young person converted to Islam, grew a beard, and traveled to an ISIS stronghold in Syria. That's not solid evidence of anything. Should his intentions be questioned? Well duh, common sense says these things may be ques of wrongful or perhaps treasonous actions. With that being said, if I could travel to Syria as a photographer or something to get a first-hand look at the conflict I would. Does that make me a terrorist? ...The point is, it's a big world. There's a strong chance that this kid really did just go to Syria in order to, "find the truth," whatever that means. It's possible he's just a damned idiot who quickly found himself completely out of his depth. In my opinion, I think the latter is most likely. • Channel 4 why don't you and everyone else man up and stop using quotations when you write "Jihadi Jack" it's pathetic. As if to say "well some people are calling him Jihadi Jack, not us, but some people". No YOU are calling him Jihadi Jack, you're the one spreading that name around, trying to get everyone else to use it so why don't you (and other news institutions) either take ownership of the name Jihadi Jack t or call him by his actual name - Jack Letts.

  • This is a very, VERY sad story. I am truly sorry for his parents. I still can not accept the fact that after so many sacrifices his parents did for him, they get repaid in such a horrible manner. Anyway, he will be dead meat very soon. My condolences to his parents. You guys could not possibly imagine that you would raise a dumb ass.

  • Then why did he go to Syria? How can his parents knowing he has mental health problems, allow him to go to Syria? If he's only doing humanitarian work , then there are many legitimate muslim organizations doing humanitarian work in Syria and Iraq, he could have gone as volunteer for one of these organisations. Do his parents mention which humanitarian organisation he is working for or what humanitarian work he has done there? ...No. They cleverly do not mention How much money they were sending him to buy "glasses and food". He has Radical views on non-muslims and has travelled to an area controlled by ISIS notorious for recruiting foreign fighters, the onus is on him to prove what he is doing in Syria and not other way around

  • What a situation for his parents... it's saddening. Instead of focusing on his parents try and find out more about the guys he was hanging around with before his departure... they most likely played a huge factor in his brainwashing. Whether he's disabled or mentally impaired no longer matters as he's within ISIS territory and it's quite impossible to pluck him out... that is if he was even willing to leave. He made his choice and if he's alive, he can find a way out somehow if he really wanted to leave or at least die trying instead of being involved in atrocities and subjugation of locals. Is it moral t risk other lives for his sake? I don't know. ISIS does fund its fighters and I'm pretty sure glasses don't cost as much in Raqqa as they do in Oxford... even with the NHS prescriptions discount. I understand the awkward position his parents are in though and the media/police shouldn't criminalise them that easily without considering everything.
