Jack Letts stripped of British citizenship

"He's in a legal black hole": John Letts and Sally Lane have condemned the Home Office decision to strip their son Jack of his British citizenship, saying they are shocked that the government would act without contacting their son first and with seemingly no form of redress. Jack Letts also has Canadian citizenship through his father.
Tonight the government there said 'Canada is disappointed that the United Kingdom has taken this unilateral action to off-load their responsibilities.'

They never discipline their children and they inculcate in them a mindset that the world should change itself to support them, rather than teaching them that when they want something they have to earn it. One couple I know who brought their children up in this "progressive" way now have two girls who gladly took part in assaulting a university lecturer because he refused to leave his office when they wanted to stage a protest.

    • ISIS isn't a nation or a state. Its a proscribed terrorist group. Its a terrorirst group that occupied parts of Syria and Iraq. Both are countries and are real states (albiet failed ones). Only a country, a recognized state, is capable of officially annexing a cities or region such as a Russia and Crimea. . A terrorist group just occupies a space until its removed. Basically there's little basis, within the law, for removing his citizenship if you consider the law to be binding. Which, lets be honest, the goverment doesn't like the restrictions in our current legal system. But rather than change the law and then implement the changes its dismissed it altogether. Its hard to be onboard when it's not legal and doesn't set an honest precedent.

      @PooftMancrap@PooftMancrap4 жыл бұрын
    • @Ganga Din There are certain conditions required to become a state. The first is getting recognised as a state by at least ONE state. ISIS is recognised specifically as a terrorist group with potential links to states through some sort of state-sponsored funding. Verifying that connection is an issue in and of itself. But it doesn't legitimise its status as anything other than a guerrilla group that utilizes terrorism. Realistically to be considered a state you'd have to function as a state, economically and politically, with other states for your status to be recognised. That includes being a member of the UN - who can confirm your status as a state or a state-like entity. No matter what ISIS does its existence will not be recognised and in order to prevent it from completely occupying the nations of Iraq and Syria to become its own 'central power' the powers that be must intervene to prevent its spread. This means that it's vital for the Syrian goverment and Iraqi goverment to eradicate Daesh cells. It means the US, Russia, the UK, France must also intervene to eradicate IS strongholds, understand and dismantle its cell network, and prevent its acquisition of its military arsenal. In all honesty there's nothing Daesh could do to become recognised as a state. In a scenario where there was no international intervention and the Syrian and Iraqi governments were overwhelmed by ISIS forces its unlikely that the international community would accept that status. It would probably result in military action being taken against an IS 'goverment' and its almost certain that such an occupation would not last. This is a scenario where no action is taken against IS until its too late. It also assumes that the Syrian and Iraqi goverments are incapable of fighting off IS forces and that the international community somehow refuses to assist them. So no, ISIS is NOT a state. Its a terrorist group. Its statehood is about as legitimate as my Cats Millies self-proclamed status as Queen of all Cat-Kind and a ruler of all back-gardens of England.

    • @Ganga Din Bullshit. Ok then let's see how flawed you're thinking is. I'm a state. I've just declared it. Right now in my living room. My youtube channel name is now name of the state of the house I live in. Do you recognise my state status? Even though this land is sovereign to the UK? I mean that's how YOU think it works right? You know if the goverment took this seriously then maybe they have me arrested and my statehood doesn't exist. Or maybe nobody recognised my statehood to begin with. Perhaps I didn't even do anything as a state, like have a goverment, establish a constitution and courts, conduct trade with other nations and so on. Maybe I did those things but then the police arrested me before I could really establish myself. In any case did I ever really become a state or did I just declare it and hope that no one would fight me over it. The definition of state: "a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government" Heike Kreiger notes "Armed groups challenge the state and its institutions through an illegal use of force. Such groups contribute to dissolving the public order and to diminishing the state’s capabilities. Therefore, governments consider armed groups as illegal as well as illegitimate. The characteristics of armed groups exclude them from any formal source of legitimation available for state actors, in fact, from any form of legitimacy based on legality. International law does not grant armed groups formal legal status unless states have legally recognized them as belligerents or national liberation movements." The stupid thing is that, despite every government in the world and every honest citizen refusing to acknowledge its 'statehood' For some reason you're the one person who 'recognized' its state status. That's fucked up bro.
