    • I was taught to snap the spine by hooking a finger into the roof of the mouth and then pressing your thumb down at the base of the head (from the top of the fish and basically between the gills) and then to snap the head upwards by pressing down with your thumb and up with the hooked finger to cleanly and quickly snap the spine. They immediately died and stopped moving upon doing so, but if you're not comfortable with the whole thing since it seems brutal to be doing so with your bare hands then I'd suggest humanly killing the fish with a knife too. 👍

    • As a vegetarian, I'd eat a fish that was sustainably caught and humanely dispatched. I used to fish a lot when I were younger, fish can continue breathing for 30 minutes to several hours depending on environment and species. Especially on ice their metabolism drops so they should be able to live on for a bit longer. Being suffocated for literal hours is a lot of /needless/ suffering compared to a swift bonk.

  • I don't fish anymore, but my family owned a fish farm. If you're going to kill a fish and you choose to bonk them, use a large heavy stick or bat or other long object with a heavy end. It's hard to get the speed and momentum with a rock, and it's hard to get the force required with a little stick. Do a test swing on the ground before you try so you don't end up just making the fish suffer with a bad blow. Also, props for appreciating and thanking the life taken. 👍

    • @@kita9868 Ultimately concepts like honor and dignity are entirely human and don't really exist in nature, but since they do exist for humans, they will be valued by people, and for some people it is worth preserving these values for animals who have no concept of them. It is humane because humans are empathetic, and would like their own deaths to maintain some semblance of honor and dignity. It's a Golden Rule kinda deal. It's what being human is about, even if it doesn't always make sense on first glance.

      @cjweezil5206@cjweezil5206 Жыл бұрын
    • @@kita9868 That's the kicker. A lot of our understanding in science is ever changing. It took years for us to acknowledge that animals had any sense of pain at all. We need to keep an open mind that just because they might not feel it like we do, doesn't mean they don't feel something similar, etc. Also, fish have stress responses, we can observe that enough to say that it's probably better not to take chances. Hell, there are even fledgling studies now that show that plants might have some alternative stimuli reaction equivalent to pain. Need to not fall into human centrist viewpoints because we will never experience what another being goes through anyway. There's always possibilities and shouldn't that be enough to warrant the consideration of doing things humanely rather than find out oh, we've been doing this cruel shit for years when we didn't need to do it that way.

      @shadows_star@shadows_star Жыл бұрын
    • @@kita9868 recent studies have shown fish absolutely do experience pain and distress, which makes the way they're usually treated by the fishing industry (allowed to suffocate) horrific. It makes sense, a lot of fish have the same functional parts mammals do (spinal chord, brain, nerves) so there's no reason they wouldn't. Having kept fish myself it's pretty obvious that they experience some level of discomfort, I've had fish with dropsy where their bodies fill up with fluid and it's clear from the way they move that they're experiencing something negative.

    • Most animals are pretty similar, behind the eyes in the middle. Find where the skull plate ends. Once you find Thst hard ridge go to the middle between the eyes and stab. You can twist and jerk the knife around to make sure you mulch the brain. The fish will spasm and it’s eyes will roll once you’ve hit brain. Going from behind the skull plate is often flatter and much thinner than the front of the skull making it easier to punch through. It’s also the location of the hindbrain or a fishes’ equivalent connecting to the brain stem. For animals the living focused important brain bits are in the rear located close to the spinal cord.

We evolved our increasing intelligence because of the nutrients in meat specifically. There's mostly humane ways of dispatching animals for food. And guess what? They're working towards making lab growing meats more efficient and cost effective, so your arguments about the environment and "murder" are going to fade anyway. I respect your culinary creativity, and I've eaten several Vegan side dishes. Also to clarify, my personal moral philosophy is, It's not my business what you are doing as long as you aren't harming any others, And that others doesn't generally include animals to be clear.

As soon as possible wack the fish over the head with a heavy blunt object. (if it moves again/the eyes move, hit again) (This is to stun the fish and make him not feel pain) 2. Bleed out by cutting throught the gills (or a stab directly into the hearth, but that one is risky to puncture the gallbladder) In restaurants/farms they use an electroshock bath

  • Nice video, anyways, Here's a chocolate chip cookie recipe: There are a few secrets to the best classic, chewy chocolate chip cookies. Number one: Don’t use chips; instead, opt for a mix of milk or semisweet and dark chocolate chunks. The second is to let the dough rest overnight or longer for a more complex, toffee-like flavor. Lastly, use an ice cream scooper to get even-sized cookies every time. And that’s it! With these little tweaks, the result is a cookie that’s textured on the outside, and soft and gooey on the inside. Absolutely perfect. Ingredients for 12 cookies ½ cup granulated sugar(100 g) ¾ cup brown sugar(165 g), packed 1 teaspoon salt ½ cup unsalted butter(115 g), melted 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour(155 g) ½ teaspoon baking soda 4 oz milk or semi-sweet chocolate chunks(110 g) 4 oz dark chocolate chunk(110 g), or your preference Preparation In a large bowl, whisk together the sugars, salt, and butter until a paste forms with no lumps. Whisk in the egg and vanilla, beating until light ribbons fall off the whisk and remain for a short while before falling back into the mixture. Sift in the flour and baking soda, then fold the mixture with a spatula (Be careful not to overmix, which would cause the gluten in the flour to toughen resulting in cakier cookies). Fold in the chocolate chunks, then chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. For a more intense toffee-like flavor and deeper color, chill the dough overnight. The longer the dough rests, the more complex its flavor will be. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop the dough with an ice-cream scoop onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, leaving at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space between cookies and 2 inches (5 cm) of space from the edges of the pan so that the cookies can spread evenly. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges have started to barely brown. Cool completely before serving. Enjoy
