Restoration one of the first Rolex watch ever made - antique/historical military silver case
This time I´m restoring an old vintage Rolex.
It has a 0.925 silver-cushion case and is powered by the Rolex 600 handwind-movement. The Rolex 600 movement was introduced in 1922. Based on the stamps on the caseback this watch should have been made between 1923 and 1925. Giving the fact, Rolex was born in 1920, it can be said that this watch is one of their first model ever made.
The watch is in a really bad condition. The silvercase is scratched, the glass is broken, the watch isn´t running and the movement is wobbling.
The hands are not original, the minute hand was cutted roughly to fit in the case. I´m removing the old luminous paint on the hour-hand, polish both of them and re-blue them at 300°C. This was my first attempt on re-bluing hands, so please allow that little uneven result ;)
I need to replace the glass, so I need my little flux-capacitor again.
I´m fitting a new crown and crown-tube, this is preventing the movement from wobbling in the case and adds some waterproofness to the watch.
The bridle of the mainspring is broken, so I´m replacing the mainspring. After everything is cleaned and polished, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+8 seconds per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

My father apprenticed as a watchmaker under his father in Germany in post WWII. Their company also made chronometers for the navy. I think had he lived, he would really appreciate seeing these types of videos. Very well done sir!

Must be an honor bringing this back to life. Almost 100 years old
Way more mesmerizing than anything on netflix
There are many watch repair KZheadrs, but I enjoy Red Dead Restoration the most. I love your machines, jigs, and tools, and the serenity of the videos. Every movement so smooth, so zen-like. Thank you for posting.
This video is better than a lot of history and how to make documantary, thank you Red Dead Restoration.
mesin ajaib.....bisa merubah barang bekas jadi barang baru atau minion, apakah hanya anda yang punya mesin tersebut.
Lets give this man an additional thumbs ups for not putting ads in this video
That watch had lived a pretty full life by the looks of it. You've given it a few more years now.
You know the satisfaction you get when you complete a project? Well, these videos leave the viewer with the same feeling without having to put on pants.
I could disassemble and reassemble a Cat engine blindfolded. I could never, ever put this watch back together. Absolutely insane.
I intended to watch this for not more than a couple of minutes, but time just flew by like a breeze. Mesmerizing. You have given a message through this video "Whatever you do, just do it well".
could not have said it better myself, thanks
Well said !!!
Damn why do i almost feel emotional at the end. Thats a thing of beauty
I love the simplicity of this watch. No endless gears and another spring .... layer after layer. Just a very well made old school watch.
I was happy to see a light oiling of the entrance pallet jewel! Many people neglect that surface. It is an area of friction, the enemy of accuracy. I also enjoyed seeing the old cap jewels. I have spent hours on hands and knees trying to find those screws after I popped them off of my tweezers into the great void.
Yeah, you have to oil that entrance all right.
In a world of throw away watches , this man is a true artist .
There are still watches that are not throwaway, they're just outrageously expensive, mostly. Except for great Japanese brands like Seiko, Orient, Citizen etc. Those will work in a 100 years as well, if taken care of, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
@@MetalTrabant I wear a orient star every single day. Have a gray leather strap on it. This watch will will work an tell time long after i am gone in death. Very well made watch. An its a watch that you service when the service is needed. Only watch i own as of today.
Someone has been watching This Old Tony again... Excellent work. Thank you
Why am I so memorized by these videos? Why do I want all these tools and clamps and boxes and stands and etc...?
If that Rolex could talk, imagine the stories it could tell. Thanks for the excellent video.
Find these videos so calming and relaxing.
The sound effect when the endstone popped out of the regulator....😂👌✨
That Doom revolver sound @ 2.38 hahah perfect
I am always very impressed how all those minute parts can be dismantled, cleaned and reassembled. You have a classic time-piece there.
Not just the minute parts either, the hour and second parts too!
This...is the most beautiful watch I have ever seen. I would love to have a Rolex from the 20's. What a gorgeous time piece.
I agree!!
Now that’s a Rolex I’d love to own! One hundred years old!
Everything as it should be. Watch restoration videos fill me with unexplainable joy.
I'm really trying to think of something that we produce today that will be worth restoring in a 100 years. That is one magnificent watch. Simple and dignified.
Maybe a submariner or the underdog explorer II
If you knew what people in the future will think is valuable, you would be a billionaire right now.
My children
Brilliant video. It encapsulates the task of restoring a watch so well, with some added humour! Excellent amplitude for a 100 year old watch that has taken quite a beating! The new mainspring helped, but also the great care in restoring the watch. Well done and Thank You!
Where did he get the replacement glass?
The least ostentatious are the most elegant imo. It turned out beautifully.
I can’t believe I stumbled across this channel a year ago during the height of the pandemic without subscribing. I’m so glad KZhead brought u back to me
You won the internet today good sir. Great restoration
Why is it so soothing to watch him service this piece
I am glad u didn’t put the music while making repairs, that’s relaxing me I am very thankfully
Is it possible we see a collaboration with “my mechanics” for restoration of your parts cleaning machine? Two masters of KZhead 😍
Indeed, that cleaning unit is nearly as old ( 1930's-ish?) as the Rolex he restored. 😉
Nice bit of history and a nice restoration. Just for a bit of trivia - at this time in its history, Rolex was not manufacturing many (if any) parts themselves. They were buying up parts from other manufacturers, assembling them in-house and branding them themselves, eventually Hans Wilsdorf was able to negotiate with these manufacturers and have them produce parts specifically for his company's watches. Believe it or not, It wasn't until the early 2000's that Rolex began manufacturing all of their components in-house.
That speaks for how complicated the manufacturing of mechanical watches are, it takes decades to learn the whole process, and if some one does a better job than You, just utilices it for Your own benefit.
That's a great bit of trivia, thanks for sharing 👍
Wow. That truly is amazing knowledge. Something I would have never dreamed to be true. Thanks for the information.
@@prunt23 NO, It's NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@Kenny-yl9pc want to expand on that?
Reads over 300 amplitude! Seriously? A watch this old? It's unbelievable!
Just watching your great job with that beautiful music it's better than any meditation 🙂,,keep doing that artwork,, salutations from Algeria 🇩🇿
Seeing this beauty comes to life was a great experience. Thank you for showing us!
Orgasmic.
approaching 100 years. thats why i like rolex. overbuild to last.
What a nice job ! No words, no music, only this very good work ! Thanks a lot ...
The people who repair these watches are amazing, but the people who made them are on another level.
Very nice rescue of a tired old watch, probably the only thing that I would have preferred to do would be to replace the winder crown with a more period correct or even repair the old winder crown, that being just a personal choice, otherwise a great addition to any collection.
There's something wrong with the watch he repaired. Says 'superbalance' on the ratchet wheel but the balance isn't a 'superbalance'.. it's a bi metallic split compensated balance. The case screw didn't fix the movement into the case. I suspect he fitted a stem tube(glued in when he should have used a friction fit tube) and waterproof crown as this helped fix the movement in place rather then the case screw. I suspect this movement is from another watch case and in the past was married into the case.
It was so relaxing to watching this fine workmanship as it progressed. Very satisfying to see the end result.
i wish i had a beat up watch to send to restore i love watching these
I love watches since I was 10 years old, now I’m 50 and watching you restaure this old watches is making me even more in love with ⌚️
Another masterpiece of a video. The lists of defects is a welcome addition. Gives the viewers an idea of severity of the issues.
This is the first time that I have watched a video by you and let me say - you blew my mind! Simply brilliant! The perfection of your work is highlighted even more because of no unnecessary talking - you let your work speak for itself. I also love the fact that you have restored something that is antique - to perfection. I'm so tired of seeing things that are made to last only 5 years and then thrown away. Simply amazing. You made my day. Lots of respect to you.
So, no mentioning of the shoddy glass fixer?
Одно и тех, видео, что не возможно перематывать. И невозможно остановится смотреть....))
Editing reminds me a lot of This Old Tony, very interesting and witty at the same time
I cannot imagine how this watch was engineered. What an amazing piece of machinery and such a lovely restoration. Thank you for sharing.
The closing of the 5 small net box was like WES ANDERSON movie - FANTASTIC MR FOX !!!
probably this guy is the only one on KZhead that's he never get a single dislike on his work ... who dare?
I just love the imperfections of this watch. The character is unreal.
Fascinating to imagine the stories that watch could tell from the vantage point of the wrists of the various owners for almost 100 years. Very cool.
Not only are we watching art but also getting chemistry lessons. 👏😆🤩
Impressive for a vintage watch being restored. Like a nostalgic bringing it to light. I can relay to it because my 1940 rolex looked like it. Almost. Thanks for featuring vintage restoration.
The time taken for the restoration, the actual work involved for polishing and fitting, the expertise required, amaze me every time I watch a restoration
I did not appreciate the new crown, the old one looked a lot more authentic, the new one is far too big.
You have restored this historical timepiece to its former glory. The provenance alone is evident enough by the movement, and cushion case. Well done!
I would absolutely were that watch. Just to think it nearly 100 years old. Love it.
The way you just fixed that cracked glass like magic
I just would like to know what is the problem with those 34 people who unliked this amazing work? You are the best bro, I really enjoy it to watch your work. Very good job and all my congrats !
F’n A, man! - I didn’t know I liked watch restoration videos until a few weeks ago. Fascinating.
Sie sind ein absoluter Profi und es ist eine Freude ihnen bei der Arbeit zuzusehen. Tolles Ergebnis. Mich würde noch interessiren, was diese seltene Rolex nun wohl wert sein wird.
Amazing these broken vintage is able to run again. You must be a certified rolex repairman.
Love the socks! Would love a verbal description of the parts and repairs being done.
When I watch these, I sometimes wonder who owned it first? Was it a gift, a retirement presentation, a sportsman? Great restore.
Stop puffing..
Being a former heat treatment tradesman, albeit on a somewhat larger scale, it was lovely to see you bluing those delicate watch hands.😍🤤 Yet another beautiful restoration!😎👍🏼🇦🇺
Fantastic. The Doom sound effect caught me off guard, lol.
Odd how all these old watches are Swiss made but all the writing in and on them is in English. Beautiful job. Thanks for the video
The second you put the balance wheel in she fired right up. I love it you don't just buy replacement parts. You actually restore them.
Stunning watch, I really appreciated the macro images showing the Sideview of the pallet fork interaction
C'est plus qu'une simple restauration, c'est du grand art. L'accomplissement du génie humain dans la mécanique de précision. Bravo et merci. 👍
This video is so soothing, even if this was over 2h long video I would still watch it with focus. Amazing work.
To have a watch like that would be the coolest thing ever
It seems you need adjustments on the 3 solenoid bases of your flux capacitor. This explains the time lap failure. Are you using the 14K Ohm resistors or the 5 3K Ohm version?
😁👍🏻 Seems like you know what you are talking about 😉
If only his time machine was big enough he could go back in time himself to check which resistors he installed.
The Rolex is the Protagonist.
🙃
