This is real world test of BMW 530e plug-in hybrid. This time I'm testing how quickly you can charge battery using petrol engine and what is fuel consumption in 2 separate rides: 1st one is charging battery and after going electric, 2nd always driving on AUTO eDrive mode (hybrid).

  • Thank you for doing this, I’d also wondered what charging from the engine cost. We absolutely love our 530e. We traded in my wife’s 2014 Mercedes E350. That was a gorgeous car, but Mercedes lost out on making another sale to us because they don’t sell the hybrid versions of the E in the United States. When I eventually replace our BMW X1 I will want to get a plug-in hybrid vehicle as well. The only thing I would change on our 530e is that ours has the Performance option with the blacked-out grill and 19” Goodyear F1 summer performance tires. Nobody is going to take a 2000kg hybrid luxury car out to track day, but I suppose the BMW brand has to reflexively offer sporting options anyway. There is a big demand for the 530e and there were very few available in the Southern California so this was the only one in stock with the color and other options we wanted. Luckily in drought California all-season tires aren’t really a handicap; you can count on your fingers the number of days in a year you drive on wet pavement,

  • Very instructive! Thank you! One thing could be good to know, the same travel with conservative battery, I mean you start with, for example 60% battery and drive with "battery control"60%, for knowing the real difference of consumption between charge mode and "hybrid mode without consumption of the battery energy". That's in order to know the real additional consumption of the mode charge. Then we can compare, 1 liter of petrol is+/- 10kWh, and where I live (Belgium), 1kWh is 0.25€. • For the second experiment, when starting, do you have electricity charged or was it completely empty. When it is empty, I noticed that in auto edrive it is swiching back and forth from electricity to fuel many times and that way I would expect more comsumption than 5.6lt. What is your opinion here?

    @yusufbalci4935@yusufbalci49355 ай бұрын
    • For second experiment it was not charged. I cant say that battery was completely empty as in is usually never fully empty under normal conditions, because system always keeps a bit and collect energey while regenerative braking. During second experiment I had this minimum battery (1km) and car was warm so this is realistic consumption on low speed (90km/h). First experiment consumption was much higher as car was always using extra petrol to charge the battery (not only from regenerative braking, but also from engine). It very mich depends on speed and either you have regenerative braking. E.g. on highway (130km/h) you would get higher consumption as during such rides usually you have much less regenerative power in proportion to high consumption due to high speed.

Battery control, which charge battery all the time till the set value (target battery charge state can be changed from 10% to 100%). So I have a question which might have an obvious answer but i dont know.. When I am going to pick up this car, I will have to drive a long way to get home, lets say 1000-1500km across the country. How does the milage do on roadtrips like this? Seeing as the pure electric range is only around 20-30km. Would my best bet be to drive on auto eDrive the whole way? And how will the car/battery act? Will it eventually drain itself to 0-1km electric range and stay there the whole rest of the drive, charging and using power while in hybrid mode?

    @isLopin@isLopin Жыл бұрын
    • It will act as regular (not plug-in) hybrid. Actually I think you can simply compare it to 2l petrol car. At some point battery will drain to 0-1km of range and car will go on petrol, will regenerate at braking and will drive electric on slow speed (or comsume electrocity for climate). So my assumption is that your fuel consumption will be 7-9 l/100km depending on driving speed;)

    • @@B7BREMAPPING I previously had 520d, so I would not say this consuming more. You can get 11-12, but this is only if you would drive short distance on petrol only and cold engine. Or totally sports mode with very high RPM. For road trips its really good car. But take a look to my other video about boot space, it is smaller than regular BMW5. Initially I thought this might be an issue, but for our 4 person family this is usually not a case. The only case I need extra space, while bringing bikes or ski/snowboard equipment, but then I put those things on the roof.

  • Hi! Great video thank you! Question, I just bought a 530e. How long is one full charge supposed to last while using eco pro and auto e drive?

    @Vivaswan@Vivaswan2 жыл бұрын
    • It depends…;) What eco pro does: it basicaly switch on some car functions to more economical mode (e.g. Climate control intensity or accelerator sensitivity) also it turns on coasting (while you drive on higher speed and take off your foot from the accelerator it just does not use regenerative braking, but rolls); What auto e drive mainly does: till 90km/h speed and till 40% of accelerator press it use electric mode only. So answering to your question: if you will drive up to 90 km/h and you will not press accelerator hard it will act more or less same as max edrive, so 30-40km in summer conditions on flat road. But if you will go to highway perhaps the car will use more petrol engine and electricity will be consumed mostly for climate or hard acelerations. In those conditions sometimes I drive 150 km and still have some battery;)

    • Hi, will try to explain: 1st option: I drove in auto e drive mode (hybrid mode) and consumption was 5,6 l/100km. Distance was 41km 2nd option: I drove same 41 km in battery control mode, which means that engine is charging battery and consumption was 10,4 l/100km. After this ride I had full battery and that means I would be able to drive 30 more km only in electricity, which I have charged from petrol engine. So theoreticaly if I would continue driving those 30 km on electricity only, the consumtion would be 41 km 10,4 l/100km and the remaining 30 km - 0,0l/100km. Total 71 km and average consumption 6 l/100km. In comparison to option 1 it would be 5,6 l/100km for same distance. So conclusion is that there is no economical sence to charge battery and after that drive on electric only, because if you drive on auto consumprion is lower.

  • it’s just that if we are talking about a hybrid and their marketers promise some kind of fabulous minimum consumption, 2.5 liters/100 km, but in the end this is not the case, as soon as your battery runs out your consumption will be 10 liters plus per 100 km.. and it will run out very quickly in 15 minutes, a standard gasoline engine is absolutely not suitable for such a heavy car, it’s wimpy as a vegetable, so the first thing you need to do is remove all these restrictions, make Stage one, which are strangling the engine, and make it at least 350 horsepower so that this car drives and does something out of itself I imagined that the maximum range on a full battery was that I could survive in ideal conditions of 22 km. But this is complete nonsense, who needs such a car for a pensioner who travels from home to buy bread from the store and back? If we approach the supposed environmental friendliness of this car, then in comparison with other modern even diesel cars are not so environmentally friendly, if we talk about the environment, well, let's ban Formula 1, because they have completely different emissions, But no, you can make colossal money from this, let's ban all rally cars, get rid of ships -airplanes, we will also close these factories where these cars are assembled using dirty energy, well, everyone understands that this is complete nonsense, electric cars are still charged from a power plant that uses the same gas, oil and the same fuel oil, and coal. .. no one says that in 3-5 years, no matter the years, the battery will need to be disposed of, which is not the most useful thing in terms of the environment, but quite the opposite, super toxic.. any modern Chinese car of this class will tear to rags any European car in terms of finishing materials technology and the like, plus it will cost half as much or even more than this BMW.. I think the future belongs to the Chinese solution, when the diesel-gasoline engine works as a generator, the car runs on electricity with a normal range, with normal power +500 horsepower with the ability to travel 1000+ km. on one charge or filling the tank, while these BMWs are very crude, unfinished and do not deserve special attention.. but we are all human, so we are ready to pay money only for the brand.. I myself drive such a car, I bought it new in 2020 and I have absolutely no such enthusiasm, a small tank of 40 liters that allows you to travel only 500 km But this is nonsense, the trunk is very small so you have to go to the store twice, assembly and materials leave much to be desired, the declared Napa leather after 40,000 km of use looks like like this car is already 20 years old, BMW are you serious? Because of the ventilation of the front wings, the car is always covered in dirt, when the engine is running, only the left muffler works. Was it really difficult to weld two pipes together so that it wouldn’t look so bad?
