Real world test, how far you can go without petrol on 2018 BMW 530e.
The 4th of May 2019, night (charging) temperature -1 C, day (driving) +10 C.
Gear used for video: iPhoneXS (camera), MacBook Air and iMovie (for editing).

X5 40e with same engine and battery, but with more power and slightly heavier Did 23kms with A/C and almost 32kms without A/C in Eco pro
Hi, i got 530e ,07 / 2020 , with The new bord screen. 12 kwh ( real 10,4 kwh ) Without climatic 38 km .. With climatic 10 km less

Good review do I understand correctly that this car heats the cabin from high voltage battery? It doesn't turn the petrol engine on at cold days when you need to heat the cabin?

My 68 plate done 7k miles with digital dash does anything from 18 to 24 miles on range, actual figures are within 4-5 miles of these figures. Much better than Mercedes C350e with very poor battery performance!
Is it better on range to use the seat heaters with the climate control heating switched off?
Yes, I have the same car and the consumption of electricity with the heat seats is very very low.
Kiek nuvažiuoji su pilnu baku? Ar bagažinėje pakankamai vietos? Ir šiaip ar esi patenkintas šiuo automobiliu?
Nuvaziuoju nuo 500 iki 700 kilometru su pilnu baku, labai priklauso nuo vaziavimo rezimo. Bet Vilnius-Ryga-Vilnius suvazineju, jei Rygoj daug nesimalu. Bagazine yra mazesne nei standartine, bet 4 asmenu seima sutelpam ilgesnei kelionei i Europa ar pajuri. Bet jeigu bandai sutalpinti keliandidesnius lagaminus, tai jau beda. Reiki geriau daugiau bet mazesniu tasiu ar lagaminu. Bet nusilenkia sedynes, jeigu kartais reiktu daugiau vietos. O siaip esu labai patenkintas, nes automobilis gerai vaziuoja (turi gera trauka ir pakankamai arklio galiu), vaziuoju A juosta Vilniuje, kas labai pagelbeja per kamscius. Jeigu vaziuoju +/- darbas namai, tai vien elektros uztenka net ir prie -25C. Tylus vaziavimas yra labai smagu (pries tai turejau dyzeli). Zodziu pirkciau dar karta toki pati.
Do you recommend to charge at lower power at 6A. Or the max at 16A? Would it reduce the battery life if always charge at MAX 16A?
I do not think this is affecting battery life too much. Both AC 6A and 16A is very slow charging speed comparing DC charging (which is not available for this car). I think this setting is more for saving house infra, because in some cases socket fuse might be lets say 10A, so you need to adjust car in order to be able to charge.

My car battery is 9.2. But when i charge is only 8kw. Does it mean my battery degraded or that 1,2 kw is not accessible. ?
I do not have a tool how exactly to measure that, but I never come home woth absolutely empty battery. It always show either 1km or less. So I assume this might be a difference of 1,2kw. Also perhaps there is a bit of reserve.
Bought the same 5 years old car 4 months ago. my maximum range 22 km without using air condition. do u think I need to change my battery to the new one?
Looks quite small range, but I do not think it is worth changing, in the end of the day this is hybrid car, not electric;) but is really difficult to say as mine varies from 17 to 35 now depending on driving conditions and etc.

Rodo skirtingai priklausomai nuo sezono ir paskutinių kilometrų vaziavimo stiliaus. Vasara man rodo ~35, o žiemą ~20. Su metais mažėjimo nepastebėjau, bet 5 ar 10 proc mažėjimą būtu sunku pastebėti proe tokių skaičių;)
@@RomasLTU1 Supratau, ačiū už atsakymą. Įsigijau ir aš tokį BMW, prieš tai turėjau 520 dyzelį, pasirodė, kad šis kiek kietesnės pakabos. Kilo klausimas, kad rodo tik 26 km pakrovus, nors deklaruojama daugiau. Suprantu, kad turbūt normalu, vertinant Jūsų patirtis
Aš irgi turėjau prieš tai 520 dyzelį F10. Šitas naujas modelis man atrodo kiek sportiškesnis. Jeigu rodo dabar 26km, pabandykit išjungti visai šildymą (palaikyti pūtimo mažinimo mygtuką), pamatysit kiek šildymas ir kondicionierius atima energijos:) Nesakau, kad be šildymo važinėti reikia, bet supratimui tik:)
O kokios kuro sanaudos ilgomis distancijomis? Turiu outlander phev iki 110km/h 7.4l

Yes, this is my personal charging port. I think it starts from 55k EUR, but with extras you can reach much more:)
Hi there, How do you increase the electric mileage on these cars? I got 330e 2018 model last year - it was giving me 24-28 miles on electric but this year it’s only charging fully and giving 12-14 mileage only! Which is not enough! I’m using home plug charging (3 pin) it charges within 2 to 2:30 hours quickly But this year I see mileage has dropped and also Setting the current AC limit option has been disabled all of a sudden! If that’s got to do anything with that? Any advise would be helpful thanks
As I understand, range is estimated based on last x kilometers driven. So it varies a lot on a display, but in reality if you will drive calm it will be more;)
When the battery is empty, what happens with the extra 88hp u get from it? Are they still available to use?
It is still available, because the battery is not fully empty. There is my other video, where I have tryied to empty it to zero. So this is possible only by standing and keeping aircon on for some time. If you drive it does not go fully empty.

No, this is standard.
Live Cocpit Plus started in 2019 for BMW's and 5er late 2019 This one is 2018 but this is not base odometer i see it loaded whit options

Labas, tikrai taip. Kolkas per 2,5 metų esu labai patenkintas šiuo automobiliu. Pagrinde džiaugiuosi EV numeriais mieste, trauka gera ir sąnaudos dabar per visą laiką 5,4l.

Numeriai, kurie prasideda EV, žymi elektra varom automobili. Su EV numeriais gali važiuoti elektromobilių/autobusų juostom.

Labas , rimtai žiuriu i ši auto. Ar patari ? Kokius trukumus pastebejai kurie tikrai trukdo? Tolimom kelionem nenaudosiu ,darbas namai ir po miesta bet galiu kraut ir darbe.
Aš labai patenkintas. Trūkumas yra mažesnė bagažinė, yra mano kitas video apie tai, bet visa kita puikiai. Mieste užtenka elektros, užmiestyje irgi daug neima kuro. Geriausias pliusas Vilniuje, kad gali važiuti A juostom:) Tai patariu. Startuoja gerai, nes elektrinis variklis nuo nulio gerai traukia. Mieste naudoju MAX edrive rėžimą. Juolab kaina nuo 530i labai nedaug skiriasi.
Tokius trukumus kaip bagažine aš pastebejau , turejau pabandymuj 4 dienom . Galvojau kazkokiu turiu pastebejimu po ilgesnio naudojomo pvz kad varyklis gauna šoko jai pastoviai naudoji elektra o jis pasijungia tik ekstra atvejais o tai irgi jaučiu nieko gero kai jis šaltas , ar naudoji adaptive cruis control ar jis privercia tikrai ar reikalinga pvz funkcija kad pats vaziuotu kamsciuose?
When the battery is empty, how much kilometers can you still do on petrol on average?
Fuel tank is 45 liters, so depending on driving style and speed I would say 400-500 km;)

@@RomasLTU1 bought my 530e last week! One more question: is it a problem long term if u always keep coming home after work with a depleted battery? If so, any tips? If not, is it acceptable to drive roughly 300km trips? Thanks in advance
@@azertycrap in general to my knowledge it is never empty, becaus car has invisble reserve. And if you come in auto edrive, so it should keep even more power. At least for me it auto edrive it keeps 1 km of battery always. So I do not think this is bad. Althogh the concept of this car is that you plug it at home or at work for longer time. Regarding 300km trips I think it is perfectly fine, I do such distance quite often.

My total average is 5,4 l/100 km.
But it varies, can be also 10 l/100km;)
@@RomasLTU1 so basically...if the battery is "dead" this work as an HYBRID like for example toyota prius? Did u tried to drive it only this way? I am a bit "afraid" to buy diesel ...so i was thinking to go for this one instead...the engine i think is more relaible. I will be using it as limo taxi ...so will be short and long trips...my curiosity is if it will be harder on petrol then the diesel as it is an hybrid.
@@alexandrugaluta104 yes, actually now I’m driving more as a hybrind only, because our home charger is occupied by tesla ussually;) So consumption is 7-10l. As an example for trip of 300km, which is 50% highway (140km/h speed) and 50% regular road (90km/h speed) the consumption was 7.2l. Before I had BMW 5 2 liter diesel, so it was about the same on similar trip. I would definetely not go for diesel.
@@RomasLTU1 that s some help and taking me out of the fog a bit...tell me,if you stay more in the city as an hybrid(not battery) the consuption is going up? Is it better to go motorways? I just try to figure this out thinking about my taxi case...for example with the toyota prius was better to stay in the city then motorways from what i remember

Doesn't it say it has around 50 km pure electric range on paper? It's pretty underwhelming if you're struggling to reach a mere half of that.
45 km on paper. But i havent had a car, which is even close to declared fuel consumption.;)
Does the preheat system warm up the engine as well?
Hi, I’m not sure 100%, but I think not. Just comfort and battery.
That worries me a bit. I am considering X5 40e or 530e, but both of them will not make my daily one way trip in electric mode. And I am worried that starting the petrol engine for the last 2-3km every day will eventually bring engine issues as it will never warm up to normal operating temperature, especially in winter.
How much does the electric range drop when it's -5 or -10 and normal heating for cabin is on?
@@ArnisRubins this might be a case if you will switch max edrive mode each morning. If you will drive on auto edrive, the car will switch on petrol in very cold conditions quite fast. Also on max edrive mode you have limited electric power during very cold periods, so petrol works more often. I have this car already almost 5 years and 100k km, no problem till now;)

I own a 2018 330e and I get 0-100 in 6,2 and only get 23-28km on ev mode
and only once I made 58 km in a downhill road

@@AbdulSalam-xe4md hi, hard to say as the battery is so small, i do not see noticible degradation. If it is 5% or something, it is not noticable on daily use. Electroc range much more depends on outside temperature and driving style;)
Your range increased because you braked with regenative charging
What exactly does this mean? How to increase range? I got 330e 2018 model and all of a sudden it’s giving only 12-14 miles on full battery
@@sharjeelbaloch1071 when coasting the brake use the excess momentum and transfer that into electricity u can use as propelling force, that’s Regen

Usually zero:) Becasue I usually drive on electric only. But if you drive on hybrid, I would say 5-6 l/100 km

What hassle ? It takes about 5 seconds to plug it in and you just leave it. 28km is enough per day for plenty of people.
