WONDER WHAT IT'S LIKE TO ESCAPE FROM NORTH KOREA?
We've all heard stories about people escaping North Korea for a better life... and today in Seoul (South Korea), I was able to sit down with one ambitious North Korean girl named Nara, to hear the struggles that she went through.
Long story short, Nara escaped North Korea in 2015 by swimming over the river into China. Then, she illegally entered Thailand without a passport, where she was thrown in jail for 1 month. After getting in touch with the South Korean embassy, they granted her citizenship and allowed her to move to Seoul.
While it was difficult for her to adjust to South Korean culture at first, she now lives a great life as an actress on TV and making videos for her KZhead and Instagram accounts (@kang_naraa)
This has been a special story for me to create because I spent 4 days in North Korea in 2017 and I got a glance at what society she grew up in... We chatted about everything from her thoughts on Kim Jong-un to the struggles that she faces adjusting to life in South Korea today.
If you find Nara's story inspiring - please share this video with your friends!

    • @MiG-23 they never get any money for working in their home country, but only food rations, housing, and clothing. That’s why many of them are enticed to be sent over to work in Russia for a term. There they work for up to 20 hours per day, for which the Russians pay a RUB 500 ($7) daily wage. Out of this, half is paid directly to the North Korean government and a half to the worker. With this little money, they can afterwards afford to provide something other than necessary for their families. But they most likely will buy food with the money bc the food rations given are very small and most people living there are starving
