  • Handre the heartbreaker Pollard. As a kiwi, I've gotten over that final and can truely appreciate South Africa's performance at the World Cup. There's a level of pure fucken dog in those people that make them very very hard to beat.

    • We, as South Africans, feel the exact same about the mighty All Blacks. That team will always, somehow, come from the back and snatch the win. They did that to our Springboks many times. Nothing but respect for the kiwis.

    • Could argue Dan Carter who also has 2 WC winners medals despite not being involved much in 2011 win due to early injury - injured squad members still get WC winners medal like Malcolm Marx and Lukhanye Am who go down as double WC winners despite not being involved much in 2nd WC. Big question remains - would boks still have called up Pollard into WC squad if Marx and Mapimpi hadn't been ruled out during tournament to injury because if memory serves me right they were the only 2 squad members injured who were ruled out of tournament and Bok management kept saying if no players were injured in tournament Pollard wouldn't have been called up to the squad. You wonder if they would have kept their word or faked an injury somewhere just to get Pollard back into the squad.

    • @@user-nk9cw5md8l if Marx wasn't injured Pollard may not have been required. I know that sounds strange but he is worth 5-10 points in a game. While Mbonambi played very well, Marx is a key player to execute the game plan, especially at disrupting quick ball or jackling it. Kudos to South Africa for adapting and doing what was necessary to win. That being said, some players just exude BMT and Pollard is one of them.

I wonder what changed, I wish some interviewer can ask him that. Maybe other Flyhalves like Libbok can learn from whatever he did to change his kicking form. Even his run up to the ball looks shorter and more direct.

Been in the Springbok set up since 20 years old. One of the best overall kickers of the ball. Probably the most clutch kicker in the world. Great game management and incredible mentality and understanding of the game. If the springboks had any other 10 in world rugby for that game, we would probably not have won it.

Reading comments on anything that has AllBlacks featuring are South Africans telling us to “bow down to the 4 time RWC champions”, “dirty cheats”, “never good”, “losers” “liars and thief’s “ and even in Jonah Lomus funeral footage are comments in every single reaction “Jonah was nothing”, “steroid abuser” etc etc There has been so much nastiness and I have seen this from videos dating back 10-15 years. The vile things said and also the cheap shots will never be forgotten. Years ago I adored and admired the Springboks and even South Africans. I appreciate it isn’t everyone, however it is the bulk of comments that all see. Yes, I’m sure some NZL fans have said things too, but not to the extent that South Africans have taken things. Being humble and gracious in winning is important. Respecting other nations for putting up a good fight. France, Ireland, England or New Zealand can all beat the Springboks. ANY top team can beat the other! I struggle now to even write a remotely half nice compliment about Springboks….and that is truly sad. Also, face facts….referee decisions will always be contentious issues. South African fans still go on about 2011….so it’s bit rich to go on and speak about AB fans “crying” I hope that at least some South African fans who can see one of their countrymen writing and trolling sites with bad intentions will respond in that comment to get them to quieten down and show some form of civility and gamesmanship. I’m positive this writing will see some negatively respond…but am sadly to used to this. All the best for 2024…AllBlacks will be meeting your team soon

  • Yes I'm a Springbok-fan, so this is very predictable. But I'm gonna say it. When the team of the RWC was selected there were hardly any Springboks in the team of best players per position. Also these days when best teams and the best per position are announced or predicted by rugby-pundits etc... Hardly any Springboks. Makes no sense. Especially also with the Springboks now with 4 RWC titles, even adding the fact that they were not allowed to play in the first 2 world cups with all the rest playing. André Joubert, Kolbe, Montgomery, James Small, Habana, Jaque Fourie, Jean de Villiers, the Joubert/Barry centre pairing, Naas, Honniball, Butch James, Pollard, Fourie du Preez, Joost, Faf... I can think of MANY more, and this is only some of the backline greats. Not even going to start on the forwards.

  • Handre is awesome high pressure goal kicker. Such humble guy too. But the most adaptable team in the world is the ALL BLACKS. No team in the world going to beat TMO!!

    • You lost to SA in 2 finals and in a 3rd place play-off. The AB's have only won 1 away RWC compared to SA's 3. SA at 50% success rate, while AB's at 30%. One of the AB's win came when SA did not compete!

You guys have won 3 World cups and a TMO gift. No team in the world can beat the TMO. Our guys will adapt come back better. We always do. We will even up the historical records. In 1995 we lost the world cup. Then 1996 we beat you in series in South Africa. In fact 1996 we beat you four tests out of five.

    • @@markrutherford6010 Less RWC than SA even though more appearances. I mean if you are so good then why only 1 RWC win away from home? I don't dispute that the AB's are one of the best teams but its presumptuous to regard yourselves as the best when your RWC performance is hardly the best by a long shot. To catch up to SA's 50% RWC win rate would require AB's to win the next 4 RWC's. If we look at the RWC's that SA played in, then NZ's win rate is only 25% (compared to SA's 50%). And if we also factor in wins away from home, it is 1 from 7 for AB's compared to 3 from 7 for SA. To regard yourself as indisputably the best, then your RWC performance should reflect this, but yet it trails SA by very wide margins on all RWC stats.

    • @@johnjames6620 Thank you for your numbers on the World Cup. Only World Cup which is in question is the last one. TMO decided that game!! 14 plays 15 is not game at all. Our brave 14 All blacks lost by a single point. I say let the players on the field decide the game. Games shouldn’t be decided by blokes off the field. The historical records don’t lie : All Blacks have beaten South Africa in 62 games. The Springboks have won 39 games. Greatness is about consistency over a long period of time. Great teams don’t go on holidays every four years. Tri Nations/ Rugby championships: All Blacks 13,Springboks 3,Australia 3. Historically you guys are 23 games behind the All Blacks.

    • @@markrutherford6010 The French question the 1-point loss to NZ in 2011! NZ questions the loss to SA in 1995. Scotland question the loss to Australia in 2015. NZ questions the loss to France in 2007. The French question the loss to SA in 1995. SA question the loss to Australia in 2011. Every RWC, losers complain about the ref. The AB's consistently got carded during the 2023 RWC. If you can't play clean then don't blame the ref and the TMO. It seems you hapy to take all the rewards from dirty play but now don't want the censures. It's funny that NZ doesn't like the TMO! Why? So you can't get away with dirty play? And maybe learn to win RWC's away from home. Only one miserable away- from-home win! The bottom line is NZ is a great rugby team but is not indisputably the best ever. You can spin it any way you want but you trail SA as far as the RWC is concerned .... by HUGE margins: Not by 4 versus 3 wins BUT by 50% versus 25%! (as far as the 8 RWC's SA competed in) and by 3 from 7 versus 1 from 7 as far as away-from-home wins are concerned. in the 2023 RWC SA won 4 of 5 games against the other top 6 ranked teams (80% win-rate) while NZ won 1 from 3 (33% win-rate).
