Zidane as a player was super skillful like Messi, Cruijff and Platini but on top of that skill he had the ability to win the biggest games which those other players come below him. Maradona, ZIdane and Pele were on the same level in that they could win the biggest games with their outrageous skills.

He didn't took them anywhere. In the 2006 World Cup ZZ had a big game against Brazil, and everybody talked about how he carried his team on his shoulders. France had a fantastic defense conceding only 3 goals. ZZ was: - mediocre in group stage vs Switzerland, man of the match was Makelele. - mediocre vs South Korea. In the third game vs Togo, France needed to win, and they did it without ZZ, the MVP was Patrick Viera. In the last 16 round match vs Spain, Vieira made his best game, assisted the first goal, and scored the second, was voted MVP again, but suddenly, everybody praised ZZ for his third goal in the last seconds. Against Portugal, Lilian Thuram was voted for MVP. ZZ scored from the spot . The same thing happened in the final, great dive from Malouda. Man of the match, Andrea Pirlo. And suddenly ZZ voted Mvp in this tournament, because of his performance vs Brazil. Andrea Pirlo 3 times MVP in 2006 (including the final), Patrick Vieira 2 times MVP (vs Togo and vs Spain), but somehow the journalists voted ZZ. Why ? Because it was his last game, and off course because Zidane was the media darling. ZZ is extremely overrated.

Michael Trumph also he was 34 at that tournament and playing at the highest level, against some of the best players ever do you expect him to be doing what he was at 26/27. He literally came out of retirement and dropped masterclass performances. If he wasn't that good, why was France doing not that good when he wasn't in the team, and when he came back the team played great and got to World Cup final. Plenty great players have played at a high level into advanced age into positions that were physically far more demanding. Maldini played until he was almost 40. And France didn't need ZZ that much. What part of what I wrote didn't u understand ? Apart from the Brazil game, he didn't do shit. Same thing happened in the 98 World Cup. ZZ was red carded after stamping on a player from Saudi Arabia. France played two games without ZZ, one was against Paraguay and the other was against Denmark. And guess what ? France won both of those games. Against Denmark it was Laurent Blanc who was man of the match. ZZ also did nothing vs Italy and vs Croatia and France won both of those games. This time it was Lilian Thuram who was the man of the match in both of these games. Basically France with or without Zidane achieved virtually identical results; 3 goals scored and 1 goal conceded in the 2 games that Zidane did not play; 2 goals scored and 1 goal conceded in the 2 games that Zidane did play. In the Final France faced a Brazil team which was in a huge disarray because Ronaldo was unfit. The final is the one thing that makes or breaks Zidane's entire myth.

World cup, Euro and Champions League, almost by himself in less than 4 years... Who has done that in the modern era, a single man, dominating a sport? Not even iniesta come close. Who has raise an entire country, wining everything, against the best players... No one has his touch, with both feet, vision, elegance and intelligence... He never needed the speed of a messi or the muscles of a Ronaldo, he was just above, insanely gifted. Nobody could take the ball from him, it was surreal sometimes, inventing every game a new skill, a new move, like a symphony played with his feet... He was out of this sport, out of this world, a privilege to witness, anybody who really watched him, and knows football, deep inside, knows he was the best of all time, the best in every league he played, the best in the continent, and the world. Ronaldo was called phenomenon, than Zidane is that force that unleashes Ronaldo. Zidane's play is all about excerting influence on the pitch, both team mates and opponents fall spell to the force he unleashed. He is like a hypnotizer, he is not the fastest nor is he the strongest, but he definitely knows how to manipulate the ball the most natural and non-intrusive way. I always wonder how can he control the ball so well with so few touches, nobody can do that except him!

To this day every time I see a video of this brilliant man I get wet eyes. I only had privilege of watching him for last 3 seasons of his career but to me those were the 3 greatest seasons I have even watched. To me he is the essence of what football is soposed to be. Doing everything with finesse, not forcing anything, everything just seemed natural to him. And at the end of the day he always remained humble deep down. At the end of the day he was just a man and this is what I loved about him. He had his flaws but noone else could make me feel the way he did when he played and to me this is the most important. He never scored 50+ in a season, he was never the star guys like Messi and CR are nowdays being everywhere in media, yet more (grown) people loved him than any modern superstar. Maby he is not the best ever but for me he will always be the greatest becous at the end of the day it is not about all the goals and the trophyes but about all the emotions that the game brings. Football is the beautiful game and Zizu was personification of that. Man I am really missing the early to mid 2000s, to me that was the golden age of football with geniouses like Zizu, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Raul and everyone else...

Greatest player I've seen with the ball. It is as simple as that. Messi can retrieve the accolade as the greatest of all time I have no problem with that. But if I had to be completely honest and say who is the greatest I've seen with the ball and generally play football? It would have to be zidane. He was mesmerising and yes I am someone who has seen him throughout his career. Euro 2000 he was just unstoppable. He was someone who made it seem like he was almost levitating above the ground ever so slightly as if he was gliding through the pitch. It is as if he had silk socks in each foot while the others wore their workman boots on the pitch. He could do everything with his stronger or weaker foot if there even was a weaker foot. To put it simple he had this velvet touch in everything he did as if his 5 yard pass was just so much more flattering than when someone else did it. Just oozed confidence and composure as well as skill and flair. One of the greatest of all time definitely in the top 10 bracket of greatest to ever touch a ball on a pitch.

Maradona, Pele and Zidane were on par and made differences at world cup finals. Messi has one more opportunity to do it.

People often underestimate how psychological football is. The hardest bit is to be able to support the pressure of the great games and to pull out your best football then. Many of the best players who score like machines, are actually not able to do this and are nowhere to be seen in finals or decisive games. This is why I hate what the ballon d'or has become: a stats driven award which pushes players to try and score as many goals as they can in random games, in order to make their stats look impressive. It says nothing about the palyers' mental strengths and ability to lead a team. That's exactly what made Zidane special; the kind of player who lifts up and leads a team in the decisive games. To some extent this is also what he managed to do as a coach.

In the last 16 round match vs Spain, Vieira made his best game, assisted the first goal, and scored the second, was voted MVP again, but suddenly, everybody praised ZZ for his third goal in the last seconds. Against Portugal, Lilian Thuram was voted for MVP. ZZ scored from the spot . The same thing happened in the final, great dive from Malouda. Man of the match, Andrea Pirlo. And suddenly ZZ voted Mvp in this tournament, because of his performance vs Brazil. Andrea Pirlo 3 times MVP in 2006 (including the final), Patrick Vieira 2 times MVP (vs Togo and vs Spain), but somehow the journalists voted ZZ. Why ? Because it was his last game, and off course because Zidane was the media darling. ZZ is extremely overrated.

Plenty great players have played at a high level into advanced age into positions that were physically far more demanding. Maldini played until he was almost 40. And France didn't need ZZ that much. What part of what I wrote didn't u understand ? Apart from the Brazil game, he didn't do shit. Same thing happened in the 98 World Cup. ZZ was red carded after stamping on a player from Saudi Arabia. France played two games without ZZ, one was against Paraguay and the other was against Denmark. And guess what ? France won both of those games. I grew up watching football in Africa, which is the sports everyone watch. But I only pay attention about it when I watched zinedine zidane played. To this day every time I see a video of this brilliant man I get wet eyes. I only had privilege of watching him for last 3 seasons of his career but to me those were the 3 greatest seasons I have even watched. To me he is the essence of what football is soposed to be. Doing everything with finesse, not forcing anything, everything just seemed natural to him. And at the end of the day he always remained humble deep down. At the end of the day he was just a man and this is what I loved about him. He had his flaws but noone else could make me feel the way he did when he played and to me this is the most important. He never scored 50+ in a season, he was never the star guys like Messi and CR are nowdays being everywhere in media, yet more (grown) people loved him than any modern superstar. Maby he is not the best ever but for me he will always be the greatest becous at the end of the day it is not about all the goals and the trophyes but about all the emotions that the game brings. Football is the beautiful game and Zizu was personification of that. Man I am really missing the early to mid 2000s, to me that was the golden age of football with geniouses like Zizu, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Raul and everyone else...

Greatest player I've seen with the ball. It is as simple as that. Messi can retrieve the accolade as the greatest of all time I have no problem with that. But if I had to be completely honest and say who is the greatest I've seen with the ball and generally play football? It would have to be zidane. He was mesmerising and yes I am someone who has seen him throughout his career. Euro 2000 he was just unstoppable. He was someone who made it seem like he was almost levitating above the ground ever so slightly as if he was gliding through the pitch. It is as if he had silk socks in each foot while the others wore their workman boots on the pitch. He could do everything with his stronger or weaker foot if there even was a weaker foot. To put it simple he had this velvet touch in everything he did as if his 5 yard pass was just so much more flattering than when someone else did it. Just oozed confidence and composure as well as skill and flair. One of the greatest of all time definitely in the top 10 bracket of greatest to ever touch a ball on a pitch.
Zidanes ability to make the most impossible things look so easy is unequalled. His movement with the ball brought on vertigo for the opposition, so naturally illusive.
