"Battle of Old Trafford"
Arsenal entered the match in second place in the Premier League after five matches, holding an unbeaten record that stretched back to the end of the previous season.
Manchester United were a point behind Arsenal in third place, but they had already lost one match that season, against Southampton three weeks earlier.

This game is a mirror image of the FA cup semi final reply in the 1998/99 season of the United treble winning season. Both captains Vieira and Keane getting sent off. Both conceding a penalty in the final minutes of the game with the scores level. Both would have lost their invincible and treble record winning seasons had both Bergkamp and Van Nistelrooy scored their last minute penalties which would have won their teams the game and both wearing the reverse home and away kits in both games. Edit: Forgot to add on. Both Bergkamp and Van Nistelrooy were both Dutch aswell adding to the mirror image.
Beautiful symbolism and parallelism

The sound of the crossbar when Van Nistelrooy misses the penalty is delightful
I remember back in the day I had no access to the internet, lived 1500 miles away from England, all I could watch was livescore on tv text or however that ancient thing is called, and Eurosport highlights the next day. From time to time I could watch Man Utd play in CL. Despite the fact I was miles away from being involved, the tension in my veins was sky high and I was sitting with the remote refreshing tele text for 90 minutes. As a long time Manu and football fan I never witnessed such a great era in any of the top leagues. Back in a day players and managers had different DNA. Now, with all the information and being involved 24/7 through live tv, podcasts, interviews etc, I couldn't care less. There are no characters these days, you don't see the hunger in manager's eyes, forget the players. Everyone is friendly and scared of what would the media say, managers are actually scared of the players. Football has more physical and technical qualities than ever but the overall mentality and hunger is long gone. That's why I think teams from 20-25 years ago would win 7/8 out of 10 encounters with today's teams.
Ashley Cole used to absolutely pocket Ronaldo.
This was football, miss these days so much.
