We're back! More specifically, we're back with my 2012 Jaguar XKR-S; 5.0 V8 Supercharged - in 4K for the first time. 542bhp, 680Nm of torque - my first proper sporting-GT car. It's been a very long time coming so I hope you're all as excited as I am to see it, please do ask any questions you have in the comments and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thank you all very much for watching, subscribe for plenty more Jaguar XK videos to come this year
Chris
Beautiful motor
Great choice...stunning
Awesome choice, pace and grace. Definitely a future classic.
Thanks Mark!
You have to love the sounds of some British V8 muscle!
Sick Car!
gorgeous machine 👌🏻
Best car on the road...love it..jaguar is my favourite car..but this is a cut above...I'd only say beautiful...thank you..
Great car ...........enjoy safely.
Michelin PS4S put the power down and man does it make the ride so smooth
Good choice.
Awesome car for sure.
I've had a few Dynamic R's and 1 R-S. Love them! Definitely put Pilot Sport 4S's all round - and deffo go 305 at the rear (traction issues mostly disappear) Better brake pads and brake fluid and you have something truly brilliant to drive
Yes Michelin Pilot Sports are the one, definitely a step up. I had p zero's which are crap in comparison
New subscriber here, awesome looking xkr-s you have, I have a 2014 xfr in ultimate black I bought it last December and its been faultless. That 5.0 V8 lump is a peach of an engine and I agree on the description of it being like a UK muscle car. I've always said about my xfr that it's a British muscle car. If you want the supercharger whine then swap your airboxes for some ramair open filters.........makes it sound like a mini hellcat 😈. Looking forward to more updates on your car.
Thanks for the advice, I shall think about it! (And I'd love an XFR-S one day!)
XKRS is great car.
love it love love it had one 6 years now
That is stunning looking car. Completely timeless design. In many ways it reminds me of a Porsche 928 GTS. Big V8, a lot of power, superfast GT car. Porsche 964 and 993 are my dream cars but as air cooled Porsche prices are so ridiculous, this is probably the one I'm getting eventually. Maybe the best looking sports car from the modern era (along with Mercedes AMG GT). But this has the best sounds. Enjoy that beautiful ride. Cheers!
Thanks, glad you like it and I can’t recommend them enough!
I have a tweaked 4.2 XKR. Best car I ever had. I recently went for a test drive in a 2024 Mustang. The Jaguar is much better!!
Love my XKR
Make some videos of that LOL we need more videos of those beasts!
This car is so beautiful, and this sound… 🤩 Did you consider the early F type v8s ? Too modern / sanitized driving ? Seem also quite fun on the paper, and convertible to better enjoy the sound.
Thanks! The choice was between XKR-S and F-Type SVR, I went with the XK because it was my poster car in college and I wanted the boot for road trips 👍🏼
My dream it Jaguar XJ8
Test drove one of these 10 years ago. They wanted $129k back then! It created big giggle factor - we couldn’t believe the midrange shove from the supercharger- the fact that it’s “only” RWD gave a sense that the powertrain was doing its best to leave the rest of the car, lol. I’m here because, a decade later, I quite fancy one for $45-50k!
Yep, the low-down to mid-range grunt with just RWD is hilarious. When you consider that at the time, the XKR-S' main rivals were the DBS (cost double, made a little less power) and the Vantage S (same price, WAY less power), I think they could justify the RRP. But I agree - the prices now are just too good to ignore - I think it's a lot of car for the money if you find one that's been looked after properly!
15k now, road tax is £610
15k? And road tax is £630!
@@TiffLangham The cars worth peanuts in the UK because of the newer emission regulations, like the V10 Audi, shameful really.
I would love to know where you've seen a 5.0 R-S for 15k
I'm on my second XKR (4.2 previous, 5.0 now) and love them. As mentioned, they're excellent road trip cars, which is why I bought another one after my Ferrari. I personally don't like the odd styling of the XKR-S as much as the fully kitted out XKR with aero packs, factory lowering, and up-market hood vents that Jaguar sells. Therefore, the ultimate version for me would be the XKR Dynamic, which was a final runout edition in the UK that had all of the suspension upgrades of the XKR-S but the regular XKR design with the full aero kit - basically, the best of both worlds. It's unfortunate we only got a few of those in the US - they're literally more rare than the XKRS here.
Each to their own - I considered a Dynamic R, but the R-S was my poster car while I was in college, so it had to be that one!
@@TiffLangham for sure, and it's a great car! Congratulations on your purchase!
@@TiffLangham I agree with Ryne. I think the XKR dynamic R runout addition looks the best, I also have one. I don’t really like the spoiler on the S. However, it’s an absolutely beautiful car, no doubt about that. I’ve had four XK’s and had this one since Nov 2014, just can’t bear to part with it. Mine is stratus grey. You have put the thought of getting mine detailed, so will do that next spring. Enjoy your fantastic car.
Truly blessed. Im 24 and this is my dream car already. 2014 Jaguar xkr 510hp. They have one for $45k but man oh man these are rare. Dream come true to own one of these. Crazy to think you’d trade a Ferrari over this considering price and what people know. Good to see that though, these are hidden gems 🙏🏼
Can I ask your opinion on the 4.2 over the 5.0 ? I'm in the market but feel the 4.2 is the much purer looking car, especially from the front.
Id be curious to know how many are registered in the US? Mine is a MY2013 Italian Racing Red with 3500 miles on it …bought new and delivered on 9/13
There were 929 Coupes and 168 Convertibles worldwide. I remember reading that in the first year the US got 100 coupes and 25 convertibles, so over the three years production it would make sense for a maximum ~400 R-S in total in the US. About 150 total are in the UK, so ~550ish for the rest of the world.
@@TiffLangham they are so awesomely rare!! 💥🙌🏻
you should show us how its drift 😅🤣👌
I'm considering purchasing a 2010 to 2012 XKR-S. Anyone comment on the running costs? I purchased a 2000 XK back in 2007 and setting off from the house were I purchased it, I broke down on the motorway (waterpump issue). For the seven months I owned the car I had nothing but trouble, constantly paying out for anything and everything. This is what puts me off purchasing the XKR-S. Any advice or info gratefully received.
I know it will be car-specific, but I’ve had nothing but good reliability with mine. I did go out of my way to find a car with full service history and a trouble-free MOT history, so I suppose that’s the only thing I can really recommend doing!
Nice car, are you keeping the spider ?
Yes the 124 is staying for the foreseeable! 👍
One day
Just put my second set of michelin PS4S’s …. First set went 54k miles before changing
That's exceptionally good going!
Xkrs vs ftype svr which of them is better? Which will age better?
If the view is ‘outright pace = better’, SVR>RS. In my view they serve different purposes (Supersports vs GT), so SVR=RS as a package to me. More luggage space in the RS and 2 more seats - I’ve taken 3 friends out for dinner in it recently. I did seriously consider an SVR though, that one might be next! I think they’ll age equally well, both being quite a classic coupe shape with no unusual intakes or weird vents etc.
@@TiffLangham I love your car. I watched this video 1000 times.
Have you still got it ?
Yes, no plans to sell it at the moment!
Also it CAN put the power down. Get Michelin PS4S and put on 305’s in the rear. It will fit 305’s without rubbing. Do it…. DO IT NOW
I've just got brand new P Zeros on it - should grip up once I've used them a bit but I have PS4's on my Abarth and yes they're great, agreed!
@@TiffLangham I use Toyo R888R's all for corners w/ 305's in the rear. Night and day difference! Plus pulley/tune to 585 fwhp+-. I need the grip lol
Apple CarPlay ? … I’ve got it on my XKR , not cheap , but well worth it. It’s integrated into the jag infotainment system. 👍
I have it too now 👍
@@TiffLangham excellent !! It’s a great addition and the car deserves it 👍
@@TiffLangham how? i've asked millions of suppliers and none of them can do it. Who did you use?
Cartronics in Surrey - there are a few other providers who do it for a little cheaper if you ask around on Jag XK owners' forums, but Cartronics were most convenient for me to get to. The kit is on the 'oldjaguar' Australian website and then you need to find someone with the JLR SDD Diagnostic tool to activate your aux input for the kit to be installed.
@@TiffLangham mine was Cartronics as well 👍 just out of interest , did they manage to enable your AUX input ? In mine (5.0) they couldn’t, I ended up with an extra button in the centre console that taps in via the fibre optic MOST system on the car and gives you the audio.
Mate it gets better. The XKRS stock exhaust is QUIETz. Purchase from spires a stage 2 non active and it snaps and pops as loud if not better then a Ftype. My jag dealer says mine is the best sounding jag ever even compared to Ftype and it’s a 12 xkr 🤷🏻. Do it…. DO IT NOW.
Aye, I'm considering exhausts! I shall evaluate again after a bit more driving but the spires one does sound great!
@@TiffLangham I heard from spires they no longer make exhausts 😮
@@lothar52 That's a shame, but in Sport with Dynamic Mode I've decided I find it loud enough! Agree it's very quiet in normal mode though.
Get proper microphones! :) Clips to your t shirt (can't remember name).
That’s the plan! We’re looking at sound kit and new cameras for videos this summer, just planning it all at the moment 👍🏼
Forza 4 irl
very sexy unique car ....agressive as well
