Rhino Linux is a Ubuntu based, community maintained linux distro that is making a shift in what qualifies as an Ubuntu experience. Because Rhino Linux, although based on Ubuntu, is a rolling release Linux distro. And It uses some cool tech to become a cutting edge distro as well. Yeah we get even newer software versions than Ubuntu here.
So what are the key features that set Rhino Linux apart? What are the new things that justify the creation of yet another new Linux distribution?
Let’s take a deep dive with the all new Rhino Linux and try to answer those.

Great video. Wow, caught it dropped 9 minutes ago. I always am happy to see more content from you, LinuxTex, because you've got good viewpoints and understanding of new Linux users.
If it were based on Arch, it would be just another distribution. I think it's a very good idea, but I wonder if such a small team will be able to maintain the project in the long term.
We certainly will!
@@rhinolinuxAny plans to partner with some company to sell laptops ?
@@RR-no1jv None at this moment of time but I certainly would not be opposed to it.
psst..... it IS just another Linux distro.
I've seen many videos from your channel, but your format never gets old. keep up the good work
The OS looks really awesome, and your editing takes it to the next level.
😮oooh ,btw bro what do you run on your main setup?
Thank you for the review! Great video. All pacstalls are vetted by the official maintainers and often by the founder of Pacstall, who is also a Rhino Linux developer
@@Watcher4361Isn't that what Ubuntu is based off of?
I Love this distro! Ubuntu based with beautifully customized xfce! 🙌🏾
@@germaineturnquest8892 Thank you!
You do reviews beautiful way 👍
Wow man that's so cool. Guess I'mma try it out now Just what I have been Looking for .Love your Content
Awesome! Glad to hear your experience.
Yess xfce has a lot more power! Previously I was a gnome fanboy, but after giving a little bit of time to xfce this becomes my fav one. Btw plz make a discussion on slackware and void Linux ..... and devuan Linux !
4:39 pack stall Rhino PKG is a sort of wrapper for all these package managers 4:41 and repositories these is the two install and manage normal dot Dev software snaps 4:45 and flat packs all from one place you don't need to mess around with multiple 4:49 commands here Rhino package manager also installed software from pakistol AppImage is missing. Ubuntu base also allows PPA.
We do not support PPAs because they require a stable version of Ubuntu.
This distro needs to stay in Beta instead of regular release until bugs are worked out. I saw it mentioned on Distrotube and Distrowatch with only a single link to download. 1 There is only ONE link to download the ISO. it is on a server that will not resume download if the download breaks for what ever reason. you have to have relativity fast internet to grab the iso. 2. there is no SAMBA SMB support in live mode to browser a network. 3. when you try to install bare metal it does not finish the install. gets about 99% finished. after reboot appears like it installed but is not complete. 4. needs bugs worked out.
I agree. I tried Rhino for a few days back in April when it hit open beta. I can see a LOT of potential but as you state there are a lot of rough edges...and downright gaps...right now. I kept my install USB dedicated to it for the future though. I'll update it maybe at the six month mark and see how it looks.
considering you said its not your favorite.. what is your favorite? and sense im just now getting into linux distro's whats better and just a overall more cleaner run zorin or rhino?
I'm not a master of Linux by no stretch, so there will be better opinions about. I use Ubunutu, Mint and Zorin, I find Ubunutu as a daily machine works best. I also use TAILS but you can't really use that for normal stuff.
those drawbacks are the same drawbacks of using the AUR on Arch btw
Cool system. I'll probably install it on the second disk and test it.
I'll just stick with debian all these distros ubuntu and all are based on debian right? So why not just get debian instead of distro hopping around I don't get it but I'm a new linux user
Is vscodium a deb package or flatpak on this distribution?
It's a deb package, installed via Pacstall
Can you please help me with the password. I boot up the USB and it asks for the login password, do you know what that is? Can anyone please help me what the password is
I don't seeing any point to having that so many distro out there. We should looking for one distro that do the job done. I was looking for a linux distro and it's confusing sometimes to pick the best. Because there are no best options. All are either Debien or Arch etc but visually different. So, what is the point?
So, far Zorin is the only option for me that kind of convince me.
Well, after hopping distros for a few years I found that not only does almost every distro feel a little different because of the developers' vision, but if you use uncommon programs there will always be some distros that handle that better than others. Since I enjoy using old tech to its fullest I run into a lot of hardware compatibility issues too. The goal is to find one distro that does everything well and works on all of your hardware. If your software and hardware life is uncomplicated, then yes all of these flavors are overkill. And we have so many distros because some devs are arrogant, antisocial, and self-centered. Their version is always the best version. Collaboration isn't common at all because of attitudes.
different use cases, servers, embedded, desktop etc. While I do agree there are still a fair few 'useless' distros out there, it should be remembered that every distro was, at one point, a 'useless' distro with a more mature, better alternative available. I recently heard someone say that they considered the linux ecosystem as the purest distillation of Free Market principles, and I think there is something to that.
@@mdferozhossain6500literally just installed zorin tonight. Made the move away from Windows 💪
can this beat the all favorite zorin os ?
no, still beta
a unified wrapper for the various package managers is really interesting. I'm too new to linux to know if it's an original idea, but it's something that would be nice to have.
It's pretty but will it last? Too many unnecessary repetitive distros which are like agent Smith from Matrix...Only a few remain and are really use daily
Good concept however it does absolutely nothing different than standard debian... you can easily pull the latest software from git, snaps & flatpak. The unicorn desktop is xfce with a theme & plank. You can't call it a rolling release simply because it pulls up to date packages only...
Our Unicorn desktop is constantly evolving, and we're working on making it more independent from XFCE by creating our components in the long term. Pulling up to date packages is what makes a distribution rolling release, though ^^
@@rhinolinux What about the kernel & desktop environment. Do you plan on releasing a gnome version? That would be awesome! I enjoy the customization of gnome over xfce
Bro. Your videos are the best
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Lost me at ubuntu-based. :D Looks ok though. Dark purple is always a good choice.
Dock is simply "plank" they used it
Bro use timestamp 😊
But why Xfce and not KDE?
Because XFCE is Lighter than KDE
@@NHSoft Not really, and surely that's not the reason.
A quick look at some settings windows and I knew it was XFCE - this ugliness can't be covered or modded. I hate XFCE, just because of the look. You can make it look pretty or modern at a glance, but quickly you will discover 90 style UI like from Win 95-98 that I hate. Not my cup of tea. However, the concept of rolling release on Ubuntu is intriguing, but it looks like those pacstalls need some time to mature.
I knew it was xfce by how slowly it rendered the appearance window at 2:14 it literally took 1.3 seconds to render the window, pretty bad considering its 2023
Maybe that's a one-off glitch. Surely it can't be that bad all the time?!
@@felixfourcolor That's just how xfce renders windows, its more noticeable on certain windows for some reason, and more noticeable on slower computers.
Hi
Another distro that will be forgotten mehh.
Probably canonical will see this and assimilate it to their flavour cast.
Yep
@@sharkuel Not on our long-term plans thankfully
I love Xfce but why did you use it instead of gnome for now given Xfce still doesn’t really support wayland, like you’ve purposely setup Xfce in a gnome like layout and it operates in a similar manner. Surely you’d want to use wayland given it’s more unix compliant
Drink a shot everytime he says rhino linux
First to say first
OMG YOU INSTALLED VLC IN CLI ! CUTTING EDGE TECH !
But what's the point of making new distros all the time, while its lacks vast majority of 3rd party softwares. Windows n Apple are developing 3rd party softwares all the time, making life easier, faster and smoother...regardless of their failing OS.(i.e windows). Linux still does not have itunes or 3rd party software like iMazing and others... I cant do any of this stuff in Linix...I am forced to go to Windows or MacOs and complete those things. I cant even download spotify songs via 3rd party like Noteburner, Sidify, Tunespat etc... I can listen to spotify on linux, but to download songs i have to switch to Windows or Mac os... and there are many more... Windows and Mac has less versions of OS or distros, if you will...but they are full of everyday use 3rd party software. Linux has over 100 + distros, but very few 3rd party softwares, which makes life difficult at times.. It has to find its way developing 3rd party softwares
The worst fork of ubuntu, no basic drivers installed
And another one 😒
Am I the only one who hates unity and the stupid side bar of Ubuntu?
.....because the world need another ubuntu based distro.
I really wish the devs would at least put in a full packaged settings and control panel option. we are tired of a half assed task manager😢 - and yet , you showed us NOTHING on how to install all these ADVANCED FEATURES , - without writing more code. how the FK do you guys let simple windows apps BEAT LINUX , all because everyone will still try simple usable apps before a whole new distro. every single time. another devs hard work and time - bites or chews , the dust.
